Is Homefront a Graphical Disaster?

PC Games shows some new screenshots of Homefront from the console version and writes: "The previously released screenshots and videos from Homefront saw actually did not look so bad, in terms of graphics quality. But there are currently impressions of THQ's shooter to see that you can breath away - in a negative sense."

By the way, why is this game getting so much attention?! Is it any good? Why the hype? It might be harsh but this game looks pretty generic to me. I saw my online retailer has this and its on PS3 too but I only see advertised for X360. Is it somekind of timed exclusive?!

There needs to be a balance. I didnt mind less than stellar graphics in demons souls cause it had great art design and gameplay. However, if everything was 8 bit i would not have played it.

People keep saying graphics whore this and that but the reality is devs are making games for HD consoles. There is a level of expectation there. If I buy a car and it performs well and drives good but is in the shape of a shoebox I am gonna be pissed. ESPECIALLY if ij the commercial it was touted as having the body of a corvette.

Graphics and gameplay are just as important people. I here so many people say graphics are more important or gameplay is more important. Well if you had epic graphics then you most likely wont have good gameplay. If you have great gameplay you hace crap graphics and you will not get nearly as immersed into the game as you would if it looked better.

What you want is great graphics and great gameplay like uncharted 2/3, crysis 1(I like the gameplay and graphics), crysis 2, killzone 3, etc...

For me it is a pain seeing bad graphics and it is a pain for me to have bad gameplay. You should not choose which one is more important because in the end they are just as important to the game.

Now just think for a minute for those that have played uncharted 2. Now if it had super mario 64 graphics but even better gameplay how much more immersive and believable would the game and story be?

Super Mario 64 is probably one of the best games of all time. As much as some people love Uncharted, they'd still have to be crazy to prefer it over or even say it's better than Super Mario 64.

I don't know why you guys think kz3 is so great. Its on of the worst games I have played this gen. The graphics are not even as good as the second one and the store is atrocious and the pop ins and the bodies sitting in the middle of walls. This game needs someone to come in and write a decent story to bring people in. Homefront I have not played but so far the story looks good. But please drop the kz3 high and mighty in terms og overall polish and gameplay bulletstorm is a much more fun game to play. This is my opinion and I try to be open and throw criticism towards the 360 when it deserves it as well as I own both consoles.

Well, thats not entirely true, especially if you have to look at anti-aliasing problems and bad textures and pop ins, but then again that might just be the Pc gamer in me talking

Though like the article says, the pc version should be fine, with dx 11 and better textures.

That's funny. PS2 owners didn't care about graphics because their system had the lowest specs. Didn't care about spending extra on multi taps, network adapters, hard drives, ect, but now they are concerned with what 360 owners spend money on, & graphics matter now that they can actually join the conversation.

If you're talking about the graphics engine they were based off of, There is only one mistake. Medal of Honor used the Frostbite engine from DICE.

Medal of Honor used the Frostbite engine AND the Unreal Engine 3, Parasyte. And I'm going to have to agree with crzyjackbauer. There were times where Medal of Honor looked outstanding in single player.

No one saying is unreal engine is bad, but it is outdated, unreal is probably the best licences engine, but let compare the engines that are out today look at rage engine, uncharted engine, god of war engine, killzone engine, rockstar engine, and look at skirm new engine. It surpass the unreal engine, unreal engine is good but not great. It used to be great but many engines pass it now and the unreal engine has to keep up.

i for got Unreal turnament 3 it looks spectacular on PC.
i did play bullet storm but i thought it was just dull, they same sounds and the same gun models from Gears of war, cliffy b just didint get creative it was a hit or miss for me

I think they are one of the only developers that realise a quality game isnt made quality by graphics.

Graphics are a nice feature but dont make a game good, thats why the best games are some of the older games from a few generations ago and they were fun to play because they were deep with lots of content and offered more interaction with the game world than todays games.

Todays games are mostly all about hollywood effects and that "wow" factor when a building or city W.e blows up.

Homefront has a plethora of content in multiplayer, single player? meh I dont care for it why?

Because im getting servered 32 player online battles with soilders, tanks, jeeps, APCs, Drones, Choppers, not to mention the perks and battle points system aswell as the battle commander system.

I think all that content makes up for alot more than having a small team deathmatch game with snazzy graphics and a few guns.

Oh and not to mention huge maps :)

Are you friggin' kidding me? How can you say that about Kaos when the only game they made before Homefront is Frontlines Fuel of war? That game was an utter disaster when it comes to gameplay, graphics and as a result sales. (500K on 360) It was a complete Battlefield RIPOFF and it didn't work. Homefront again sucks balls in the graphics department and that wouldn't be a bad thing if the gameplay was so f.ckin' badass that it would take care of a critical aspect that makes gaming such a fun thing to do: IMMERSION! On that part Homefront and its developer still have to prove themselves!!!

It reminded me of BF2 on the PC and clearly you havent played any older games at all considering you think graphics are so damn important.

On the note of Frontlines, it didnt sell well because it wasnt accesible and wasnt graphically pretty, it had the deepest gameplay experience and was very balanced. Vehicles were even deep with Flare launching systems and alternate fire aswell as the attack chopper having different modes.

It didnt sell well because noobs didnt buy into it and I can garuntee those who bought it were core players, its such a shame your blind to the fact that the gaming market is controlled by casual gamers tastes, why do you think the annual COD is so sucessful despite being the same game 3 years running?

Graphics dont immerse me, Gameplay, story, characters immerse me and for the most part shooting games arent meant to immerse you at all lol they are just meant to be fun.

Games that immerse you are games like Heavy Rain, Mass Effect etc. Why? because they have great stories and intriging characters.

Theres nothing immersive about sitting forward on your couch with your tongue hanging out of your face jumping around on Halo whith a bowl of tortilla chips next to you screaming Yeee Haw as you score a sniper headshot.

Of course I could be wrong and you could name one FPS that has immersed you in recent years.

(For your information I've been gaming since the Sega Mastersystem.) Immersive shooters I've been playing in the past couple of years? Half life 2!(SP),Counterstrike, COD2(MP),MW (SP and MP), MW2(SP and MP), battlefield 2 (MP) and the list goes on and on. Starting a game and going at it for 2.5 hours without "having" the time to eat, drink, take a piss or smoke a cig, spells immersion for me.

Okay, some who understands this article a little better than me- were the screenshots taken from the PC or a console? Because if that is the high end PC settings, then yes, I agree this game is a graphical disaster.

However, that doesn't mean the game is a total disaster though. Just the gfx are not 2011. More like 2003.

I don't think the graphics are that bad really. They're not the best, but I've seen a lot worse this gen.
From what I've seen so far, this game looks very similar (graphics wise) to MAG and the video's of the new SOCOM.
I wouldn't say its a graphical disaster at all.

LOL...yes I am a smartass, been told that many times. Anyway, as to this game. Do yourself a favor and listen to the podcast "Weekend Confirmned" Ep. 49 this week. They discuss in depth this game and the story and how different it really is from other shooters out now. This game isn't pulling punches from a story telling perspective, its grim and feels all to real at times. Graphically this game is good, not great but good. As for going to war outside a hooters or whitecastle, I agree that alone doesn't make this game noteworthy. But when you combine that with the compelling story it creates a game that really could help shift FPS games back to being more than just about the multiplayer. It's good enough that it shouldn't be getting this kind of ridicule. I would hope most gamers could look past the compare its textured surfaces or it only has this many pixels arguments when a game looks good but presents a fantastic story.

Maybe I came at you personally a little too strong, for that I apologize. Sticking up for games with the promise of great story, solid gameplay and good graphics I won't.

To me Homefront looks about the same as Blops or MW2. sure it has some graphical degradation in certain areas but maybe they will fix those before release.

It's just another average game trying to cash in on COD and FPS popularity right now. Nothing new but the story, oh wait that's old too (insert Red Dawn here).
