TGE: Boss battles have been a staple of gaming since Mario was jumping over barrels and climbing ladders to smack Donkey Kong upside the head.
Now that there are so many of these encounters in existence, it's easy to ask ourselves this question: Is the idea of a boss getting old? Yes and no. Maybe, well, possibly--actually who knows? Yeah, there are tons of good bosses in games and lots of bad ones too, but the whole idea and concept of a boss can lose its appeal and grow stale. At the same time we still come across bosses that can make us jump for joy and yell like Xena the Warrior Princess. So what distinguishes the good from the bad? Well, we're coming up with five things that make for great boss fights and pinpointing ways to keep these encounters fun, engaging, and rewarding while avoiding clichés (for the most part). At the end we're going to throw all of these elements together in order to craft a boss battle so extreme it'd blow the controller (or mouse) right out of our hands...
Final Fantasy 7 has come back under the spotlight thanks to the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but is it worth replaying the original?
Very much so. Graphically it's dated but the story and the gameplay haven't aged a day. It's still one of my all time favourite RPGs and for me is better than Remake in some ways.

Rise of the ronin sold twice as much as Dragons Dogma 2 this week...but no articles about that. It's only news if a PS exclusive is being outsold.
Wow, that was one of the dumbest and most absurd things I have ever read, sorry. Not to mention every time I saw the spoiler warnings my eyes just scanned to the next paragraph. I had to go through all of that, just to get to your ridiculous scenario in which you obviously had too much Gears of War on the brain (lemme guess, you're a fan).
I personally found this to be imaginative and insightful. Boss battles, for me, are one of the best parts of gaming in general. I think the elements described in the article are pretty on-point with some of the best boss fights one can experience.
While the scenario at the end may not be entirely realistic (or technically possible in a game), it was nonetheless fun to read.
