PushSquare: "Laughing Jackal's been behind some of the better PlayStation Minis to date, with their cheeky three-dimensional twist on Qix, Cubixx, drawing most acclaim. We described the game as "intense" in our review last year, so it's with some anticipation we can reveal that Laughing Jackal's preparing another entry in the Cubixx line. The studio's just announced Cubixx HD, a PlayStation 3 downloadable title boasting new enemies and high-definition visuals."
Years ago, Qix was a neat puzzle game. You were on a 2D level where you had to cut out the environment while avoiding enemies. Then, years later Cubixx was released as a PSP Mini, a title that could be played on both the PSP and PS3. Cubixx was so successful that the developers were able to remake the title on the PS3 as Cubixx HD. Now, the title has been ported to Steam and it mostly holds up, but players may find the release somewhat unneeded.
A PS3 remaster of a PSP Mini makes its way to Steam with surprisingly few changes. However, whether or not that is a bad thing remains to be seen.
Defunct Games reviews Cubixx HD, out this week on Steam. This is a fun update to the Taito arcade classic Qix. Originally released on PSP in 2010, Cubixx HD finally brings the fun to Steam.
