The puzzle count for The Witness has been revealed.
Developer Jonathan Blow said that the project, which is scheduled for later this year, will feature over 400 puzzles on release. The figure is over five times the number of trials featured in Braid, although the time taken to solve them will be faster.
"In comparison, Braid has about 76 puzzles in it," he said. "So that tells you something about the relative sizes of the games.
"That said, the puzzles in The Witness are often intended to be bite-sized and quick, so it’s not really a direct comparison. (On the other hand, some of the puzzles are most definitely not bite-sized and quick!)"
It was added that 222 of the game's puzzles have been created so far.

The Witness might be one of the best games ever made. A fun, frequently frustrating study on mysteries, humanity and a love of true magic.
The Witness is pure brilliance. I platinum'd it on PS4 and recently replayed it on PS5. It's definitely an incredible experience that requires no spoilers so just let the island guide you. Yes, the puzzles can get tough but they are never beyond completion so take come back and go see other things. There is also a ton of storytelling and mystery in the visuals. The Witness is the first game I have played that really took my mind to new heights of creative thinking and perspective. This game is more than meets the eye and 100% a masterpiece.

Braid puzzles took me a long fucking time. If this has 5x the number of puzzles it will take me 5x longer to finish the game in theory. Therefore 8 years.
