Castlevania 25th Anniversary: Want Castlevania 5 this year? Make your voice heard!

Rely on Horror: "September 26, 1986. Does that date mean anything to you? Well, if you’re a Castlevania fan then it damn well should. That’s the year the original Castlevania title hit the Famicom in Japan, thus creating one of gaming’s most treasured franchises. Now let’s flashforward to present time, it’s 2011 and you know what that means! We’ve been extinguishing Dracula and his fellow creatures of the night for 25 years. This doesn’t just call for a celebration among fans, this also calls for a new game to be, hopefully, released this year. How does Castlevania 5 sound to you?"

I hope Castlevania V gets made. But I don't want the Lords of Shadow sequel as Castlevania V and I DEFINITELY don't want it in the SotN format. I want a proper Castlevania more akin to the franchise's roots from the NES and SNES eras of gaming.

Well Castlevania 5 (sorta) exists. It's called Dracula X: Rondo of Blood, starring Richter Belmont and only came out in Japan on PC Engine. (The only way you can play is on PSP, Castlevania: Dracula X chronicles).

Yeah, I know it doesn't carry the number 5 but it's still a canon entry and is the link between Castlevania 4 and Symphony of the Night.

Yeah, Dracula X Chronicles was harrrd. But I hated the 3D graphics style(animations, argh!) on 2D plane. Sprites worked better for me.

I'd gladly welcome classic Castlevania for 25th anniversary, would be epic, or adequate SotN successor. Can't say other Metroidvanias were even close to SotN.

Castelvania Lords of Shadows was a brilliant game. Those who dislike the game for taking such a different approach rather than staying on its traditional routes, really is missing in how epic this game really was. The story was marvelous, the gameplay was fantastic and the graphics were absolutely gorgeous.

That game was truly was a work of art.

gman_2974846d ago

I hope you weren't referring to me because I love Lords of Shadow. But if they're gonna make a CV 5, I want that to be a side-scroller.

lepolohuevo4846d ago

Honestly ShinFuYux, if you call that art then I don't know what's shit to you...

hay4846d ago (Edited 4846d ago )

@ShinFuYux: Not even close. Creators had great ideas but they were not thought out completely which was pretty obviously seen in many aspects. Wasted plot elements, occasional nonsense, gameplay mechanic was forced to feel varied.

I'm barely a wannabe writer but it was obvious story was a partly good idea badly written and underdeveloped. Story elements were pretty much wasted despite incredible potential and overacted.

Gah, even my friend laughed how story elements could be wasted when I was showing him the game and pretty much most of the time his predictions were right which encouraged him to do it constantly, and damn, he was right to the very end...

Gameplay was boring and uninspiring with impressive and great amount of attacks to be made to contrast.
Have anyone played the game technically? No one noticed badly synced enemy attack animations which made synced blocks partly ineffective, and unblockables element seemed added later(most unblockables had the same animation, some had different) to prevent syncblock spamming but despite that you could syncblocked through most of the fights easily(and I played on hard first time). Sure, you got hit thanks to badly synced animations, but repeating with light magic pretty much healed to full health even when bosses took close to half health with single attack.

And the end of the game? Felt rushed and the "big" revelation of the whole plot at the end along with ending was plain lame. I'm not gonna dwell on that since it requires spoilers.

It was a bad game with incredible production values.

id like to see a complete collection all the foreign castlevania titles along with all the others even the N64 titles.

SwampCroc4846d ago

a new Castlevania would be awesome... Lord of Shadows was a pretty decent play... but Symphony of the Night has my heart... always will.. I personally would want another Castlevania presented in the SotN style..

The 7 Best Vampire Games: Embrace the Night

Vampire games are making a comeback of late, and gamers hoping this is a new trend should look back at the 7 best vampire games ever made.

SimpleSlave47d ago (Edited 47d ago )

What is a list? A miserable little pile of scribbles.

A Best Vampire Game list and no Bloodborne. A bold choice, indeed.

The_Hooligan47d ago

IMO, I wouldn't consider bloodborne a vampire game. Long story short, It's more about the side effects of the blood experiment and the influence of the red moon, than actually being a vampire.

SimpleSlave47d ago (Edited 47d ago )

Yes, Bloodborne is about Vampires. It's not just the undertones, or the imagery or the obvious parallels, it's pretty much everything and then some. Here's the thing, Bram Stoker's Dracula is also not a Vampire novel. Why? Because technically Vampires from folklore were something else.

But based on our updated view of what Vampires are, informed in one way or another by Bram Stoker's Dracula, Nosferatu The Vamprye, and many other stories, and combined with From Software's own interpretation, we can say with confidence that Bloodborne IS a Vampire story. Sure, there are other elements, but the central narrative is pretty much Vampires. Which would make it THE Vampire game. I mean, Cainhurst Castle. Anyways, that's how I see it.

But to each their and we'll agree to disagree.

Thats the best Vampire game ever, but enough talk, have at you!.

SimpleSlave47d ago (Edited 47d ago )

Absolutely... Now, die monster! You don't belong in this thread!

I've lost all hype for Bloodlines 2. It's going to be an action game.

Barlos47d ago

No Blood Omen? Even today it's one of my favourite vampire games. We could really do with a release on modern platforms.

Relientk7746d ago

I really enjoyed Vampyr. The combat is a little clunky and could use some work. However, the story, characters, dialog. setting, and pretty much everything else in the game is great.
