IGN: Dragon Age II - Console or PC?

Dragon Age: Origins wasn't exactly a technical marvel on consoles. With the sequel, has it improved? And how does it compare to the PC version?

Kran4844d ago

PC is always undoubtedly better. Unfortunatly, hate me if you wish, but im getting the console version. Had Dragon Age: Origins and Awakening on the 360, and I may want to import.

Christopher4844d ago

I'm actually getting both. PS3 for general laze-about gaming. PC for the mods that will keep me coming back to the game time and time again.

blitz06234844d ago

I think it has the same requirements as the first one, so if that's the case I'm getting the PC version. It's obviously the best choice since the game is designed for it

Bigpappy4844d ago (Edited 4844d ago )

I got the 360 version last time around, and that was said to be the worst looking version of the 3. I will be getting the 360 version again. I don't play games because they look pretty. I will get the duller looking 360 version because I enjoy gaming on 360 over gaming on my PC. And yes, my PC can handle DA2 just fine.

cakeisalie4844d ago

The first one was a different game on the PC. If you consider gameplay then Console version of the 1st one were hack and slash, PC version you needed use strategy.

PandaJenkins4844d ago

That's horseshit dude. The console versions required a lot of strategy too. No doubt the PC was more complex but the console version was not a hack'n'slash. If you played it that way you would fail miserably.

Bigpappy4844d ago (Edited 4844d ago )

Come on cake. I had to use all of my rescources to get accross the land, let alone the final battles. I relied heavily on my supporting cast. You guys always think it neccesary to degrade the other side instead of taking up the strong points of what you are defending. The point though is not whether or not you need more strategy on PC (I never played it), but whether I enjoyed my version or not. I can tell you that I wholly enjoyed my time with DA.

@TheIneffableBob: Playing on 360 for me is much more than getting to use the really good controller. Its about the full experience: My fiends all hand out it Live party mode; there is no worries about compatibility and having to install. The 360 version is also more tuned for a controller than the PC version. All to that and the fact that my job requires plenty of PC use, so forgive me if I just want to stay as far away from them as possible when I need to whine down.

The only game I played on PC in the last 10 years was "Torchlight" Valve had a lot of great deals on steam and I got about 4 games. That is the only one I played. I really don't care for PC gaming any more. I am not here to hate on PC gaming, I personally prefers gaming on my 360 by a mile. I am aware the games are more expensive and I pay to play online(which I seldom do, except for co-op), but it is my confort zone. I just turn it on and join the party as I load up whats next. Nice, quick and easy.

TheIneffableBob4844d ago

You can play PC games with Xbox 360 controllers, fyi.

Probably on the PC as I want the best visual quality for this game. Although, sitting back on the couch with the big screen TV on a console is also appealing.

ChrisW4844d ago (Edited 4844d ago )

Sigh... hook your PC up to the big screen then! It more than likely has a VGA, DVI, or HDMI port.

As for your mouse and keyboard, use a TV dinner table or an art board.

Sarcasm4844d ago

*sigh*

Not everyone wants to lug around their desktops in the living room and disconnect and re-connect all the wires over and over.

My huge ass desktop stays in my room with my monitor.

The only time I would agree is if someone had a high end laptop that can easily be moved around.

ChrisW4844d ago (Edited 4844d ago )

Good point. I guess this only applies to those who have their own place or big screen TV.

Quagmire4844d ago

Yea, and what if youre TV is 60 inches and you sit about 2 metres away from it, how the he-

actually... I just remebered, I have a wirless Blutooth MK....

PS3 it is then, I hate MK.

WhiteNoise4844d ago

@Sarcasm

I don't get why you have to 'lug' anything.

My PC lives next to my hdtv and is hooked up to my surround system. It doesn't even move for gaming. If you have an I.Q over 60 I'm sure you7'll figure out a way to mutltitask it; as was written above, pull a desk in front when needed, sit on the couse with a 360 control for 99% of games which support it if you want.

ATiElite4844d ago (Edited 4844d ago )

@ Sarcasm

well if you have knowledge of advance technology you can always connect your Pc to your TV wirelessly that way you don't have to move it from room to room (second picture) and as far as the KB/M theirs an App for that as well.

Nightshadow4844d ago

That keyboard/mouse combo is not a bad idea at all. Bubble up for the idea =)

joydestroy4844d ago

yeah i'm hooking this up via dvi to hdmi 1080p
and i'll be sitting back on the couch ;)

my desk, as well as monitor and tower, are sitting a few feet from my tv/tv stand. one is on one wall, the other stuff on the other wall.

solar4844d ago

the depth of the fighting in the PC was superior for DA:O. thats the version i will get again :)

distorted_reality4844d ago

Agreed, wouldn't consider getting on any other platform.

MarioWarfare4844d ago

Mouse and keyboard is a lot better for dragon age than controllers.

wedgie4844d ago

Agree with the PC will be the best. Unfortunately my PC can't run it (a little old) so getting it on my PS3

ChrisW4844d ago (Edited 4844d ago )

If you have the minimum GeForce 8800 512MB or Radeon HD 3800 series, in addition to a Core 2 Quad 2.33GHz, then you can run it on minimum resolution and effects (i.e. console quality).

cakeisalie4844d ago

Well the PS3 is also very old its 5-6 years old tech, I guess your PC must be older then that time?

wedgie4844d ago

@ChrisW and cakeisalie

Its about 5 1/2 years old. Still kicking well which is surprising. The problem is I have not upgraded it throughout the years, so it still has just the same graphics card (just the Radeon X1300).

The only new component is a new hard drive to increase storage about a year and half ago. Also helped with the RAM.

I was able to barely play Mass Effect 1, which was great, but really hiccupy for me. So it is just easier to get it on the console and not have to upgrade, especially this late in its life.

Thanks for the tips though. I am looking forward to when it finally bites the dust so I can upgrade and catch up on some quality PC games myself.

EA Made Dragon Age and Mass Effect DLC Free On PC By Retiring The BioWare Points System

Immersed Gamer writes: "In order to replace the oppressive BioWare Points system, EA is making a large portion of the Mass Effect and Dragon Age DLC catalogs free for PC users.

For those of you blissfully unaware, EA and BioWare employed a payment system called BioWare Points on PC to pay for DLCs for titles like Mass Effect and Dragon Age. While PC gamers have been struggling with BioWare point’s unfair conversion rates and extremely scarce and cost-detrimental sales.

Console players have been allowed to purchase content in pieces through the appropriate Sony and Microsoft shops. For real money, and not BioWare monopoly bucks. In turn, console players missed out on some DLC content, such as Mass Effect 2 pre-order bonuses that have been repackaged into a DLC pack."

Great response to Ubisoft and their disgusting behavior. Ubisoft decide to take away DLC from people who paid for it, while EA give it for free to everyone when they realize their system sucks. Who would have thought that EA of all companies would be showing Ubisoft how it should be done (even if this is EA fixing their own mistakes as well).

Mobis-New-Nest667d ago

What goes around comes around and I promise you, Ubisoft will see their actions blow back on them when their diminishing sales numbers and stock taking a hit downward. That's the only way a company learns when they decide to be reactive instead of proactive.

All BioWare Games Ranked from Worst to Best

BLG writes: "There was a time that BioWare games were the biggest deal in gaming. The Canadian developer’s legacy of all-time classics is well known. Mass Effect, Knights of the Old Republic, and Baldur’s Gate are some of the biggest names in gaming.

While BioWare’s quality has fallen off lately, there’s no denying the quality of titles in their portfolio. That’s why we’re going to dive in and rank every BioWare game from worst to best. By every, I do mean every BioWare game, even the ones you completely forgot about!"

Ranked from worse to even more worse more like, they been on free fall for a fair few years now and I personally don't think any of there earlier games have aged well

autobotdan826d ago

Wow to think at one point in their history they made a Sonic the Hedgehog game..crazy

chicken_in_the_corn826d ago

Anthem is crazy underrated. I really enjoyed it. ME1 is Bioware's best imo

Michiel1989826d ago

I actually put quite a bit of hours into Anthem but i dont think its underrated. It was a huge mess, server issues, gameplay issues, crashes, no endgame loop, too few different enemies, uninteresting gear. too few dungeons.

It for sure had potential and if they could have managed to keep the same gameplay of the classes but without the rest of the issues, this game could have been huge, but in the state in which it launched it was such a letdown. They partly fixed some of the issues, but it took too long. A grinding game like this needs to hook players from day 1.

'Dragon Age' and Why It Sucks to Play Cult Favorite Games

Delving into a well-loved game or series years after its release, when it already has an enthusiastic and devoted fanbase, can be incredibly difficult. People can be casually mean on the internet without intending to, and that happens a lot when you say you don’t like something they do. Fans of the franchise take their love of the game very seriously. They’re fervent and devoted, which has its charms, but it can also feel like you’re disappointing them when you decide their thing is not your thing.

Snakeeater25949d ago

All dragon age games are terribly boring

Kerppamaister949d ago

Why'd you play DA2 if you thought 1 was boring?

Snakeeater25949d ago

Because of the reviews, I thought they could do better specially gameplay wise and the third one was even worst

spss11949d ago

I've never been able to complete a Dragon Age game. They always felt too rigid in design. I eventually think "why am I playing this over Witcher 3?" or pretty much any other rpg.

arkard949d ago

The same reason you read a different book, or watch different movies. Different world, characters, lore and story.

jeromeface949d ago

Idk, because maybe you completed the witcher 3? Not all of us like repeating a game over and over just because its the best in genre.

spss11949d ago (Edited 949d ago )

@arkard
Never found the story or lore of DA interesting. Inquisition was just generic evil dude with demon army wants to conquer world and you're the chosen one.

@jeromeface
I've played through Witcher 3 once, at the same time I was playing DA Inquisition. Hence the example. I never finished Inquisition and went on to complete Witcher 3.

Yui_Suzumiya949d ago (Edited 949d ago )

Well the first bored me but I loved 2 and 3. I could never get into The Witcher or Elder Scrolls but I enjoyed those as far as medieval themed RPG's go.

SegaSaturn669949d ago

I played inquisition and thought the story was pretty well done. Voice acting as well.

Lost interest when i found an ultimate weapon that could only be wieldable postgame. Like wtf would they let me even obtain it for?

Is it really a cult following if it's in the millions?

IanTH949d ago (Edited 949d ago )

lol Definitely a fair point. When a game is made and published by one of the largest video game companies on Earth, has at least 12 million sales between DA:O/DA2/DA:I, DA:I noted as being BioWare's most successful launch, and made EA enough money to greenlight a 3rd game? I'm thinking it's tough to argue that's niche :-p

If you take cult following on the face of it - a group of people who are highly dedicated & passionate about something - the author wouldn't be wrong. But they have to know that term is most widely associated with the group being small/the object being obscure, so it can't really apply here.

melons949d ago

Yeah, in what universe is a series with three games, a fourth on the way that's sold millions and is published by EA a "cult favorite"? Next you'll be telling me The Witcher 3 is a plucky and underrated indie.

IanTH948d ago

I've heard about this hidden gem called GTA V...

jznrpg949d ago (Edited 949d ago )

Cult favorite? It’s well known and sold fairly well and they are making a fourth game . I don’t see it anywhere near cult favorite status . I really enjoyed the first game and the third was pretty good (with failed mmo faults you could notice) but the second game was lazily made garbage .

Yui_Suzumiya949d ago

Second was the best game which is the biggest hot take I've ever had, lol

ElvisHuxley949d ago (Edited 949d ago )

Loved the first one, second was pretty good. Couldn't even get through the third one. Don't have high hopes for 4, but hey, nowhere to go but up hopefully.

moomoo319949d ago (Edited 949d ago )

DA: Origins was cool, but I got Mass Effect 2 at the same time and goddayum there was no comparison imo.
