Can Fable 4 Redeem The Falling Franchise?

With the dust slowly settling on the release of Fable 3 late last year, now seemed a better time than any to reflect on where the Lionhead franchise is heading and where it has come from. With the series getting significantly lower praise from fans and critics with the previous two instalments, is there any need for a Fable 4 and would it help restore the series to its former glory?

Peter Molyneux, might as well just forget about this franchise and work on something new.

RIPSKATEDESTROY4835d ago

couldnt agree more, i think he rode it into the ground

Heartnet4835d ago

Yeh he targeted a market which Rpg's shudnt be targetting xD

Casual gamers dont want RPG's they want Farmville ! :)

I really wish they would do B.C. When is got canceled on the first Xbox, I was really let down. Fable came out but it never lived up to the hype. None of them did. The world of Fable and it's classic colonial folklore is so amazing but everything else just never did it for me. I really want to see B.C. live, as it was one of the most impressive ideas ol' Pete came up with. Come on Lionhead.

Did you just say BC? How I wish they would listen to gamers. Fable could work if they teamed up with the guys behind Oblivion but BC is my dream game from back in the day that oddly disappeared. As for now I'm Fabled out.

"falling" implies that at somepoint it was good, and it never was

Godmars2904834d ago

Failed to truly develop past its initial offering you mean.

awiseman4834d ago

That comment came in record time

Graey4835d ago

Why do they keep making this game...jeesh already. You know he's going to hype it up and fail to produce just like the rest of the franchise. It's a pretty decent bunch of games but they really should hire someone else to talk about it.

NinjaSp33d4835d ago

Never again i pay $60 fable game

TheCagyDies4834d ago (Edited 4834d ago )

oooh Shane, haven't seen you on here for a LOOOOONG time.

EDIT 1: Just picked up Fallout 3: GOTY Edition and Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising for the PC so I'll be macking down on my PC and staying in my room for the next couple of weeks. Going to be intense.

Pick up Dead Space 2 NOW or go up to my room and play my copy.

RIPSKATEDESTROY4835d ago

fable is still the best of the 3 in my mind

Pedobear Rocks4835d ago

Maybe PM should shut the fuck up for once and let the game speak for itself...he oversells his games so much they can't help but be disappointing when they hit the shelf.

Peter Molyneux has high hopes for Playground's Fable

One of the biggest reveals at this year's Xbox Games Showcase was the latest Fable trailer. After a lengthy stint of silence, Playground Games gave us a look at bits of the title, albeit in a trailer that was mostly made up of CGI nonsense headlined by comedian Richard Ayoade, who is playing a rather frustrated giant.

Molyneux asked about what he thought about the Fable reveal.

Damm thats a name I haven't heard from in what seems like since forever.

And we thank the lord each day.

Michiel1989302d ago

he actually was in the news every now and then with a (couple) scam games he made

Double_O_Revan302d ago

The exact same thought came to mind when I read the headline. It's been so long since we've heard his lies and over ambitions.

A failed hack designer has high hopes for Fable lol incoming flop confirmed!

Godmars290302d ago

Well, he's not associated with it. Giving interviews talking about features never at any point mentioned with devs let alone introduced.

It might have a chance.

Godmars290302d ago

Peter Molyneux: Hideo Kojima minus ability and skill.

Godmars290302d ago

Think you mean ethics.

Also, whose defending Molyneux? Wasn't his last game a literal ripoff with him offering a prize but not giving it?

KwietStorm_BLM302d ago

I wonder if those hopes are higher or lower than Milo?

What The New Fable Needs To Be Better Than The Original Trilogy

The original Fable games were flawed masterpieces. How can the new Fable game keep the best parts of its prequels while avoiding the same issues?

"What The New Fable Needs To Be Better Than The Original Trilogy"

-pfft who wrote that title?

-Anyway if what they mean is "What the new Fable needs to *do better than the original trilogy", then I'd say stop trying to dictate what the new Fable should and shouldn't do or be. All I ask is that it has the spirit of the original but do their own thing and hopefully its good, thats good enough for me.

neomahi307d ago

They're gonna jack it up, they always do, and really, bringing someone on board to pick up where someone left off, especially when Fable had the reputation it did (because the Xbox 360 during it's time put up a fight against the PS3 and really made PlayStation's job a rough one going), and that's a tall order to fill, it really is. Sure, it'll be pretty but it's not gonna be the same. Australian humor is quite different from British humor, it's cons getting dumped on a desert island by the truckload.

I'm sure it'll be okay, but not award winning

Muadiib306d ago

The new developer is British as well though.

A potion created between some ideas

- the first two Fables
- a high fantasy setting
- an open world like the two new 3D Zeldas
