A very interesting and thought-provoking article. I think this can be found in most forms of entertainment. Nothing can ever truly be perfect, and if it isn't, then it will always have some negatives that people have to look past or "struggle" through to enjoy them.
Pacing is one of those often ignored areas in games, whether by developers or reviewers. Glad to see it get some attention here.
Well said. This expresses a dilemma many players experience, no doubt. Players don't invest in or play games to "waste" time or as "time consumers", necessarily. Games are a form of entertainment, and when they cease to fulfill that function, they become dust collectors.
Great read. The way I see as long as I enjoyed the game for a majority of the time then I can say it was worth playing through it. The perfect combination of story, gameplay, and pacing is nearly impossible to pull off (though I might say Uncharted 2 did it), so there are always some flaws that I have to just try and ignore. It's a matter of how many and how often I must do that.
