Ono: “Time feels right” to bring back Onimusha, “running into hurdles” with Darkstalkers reboot

VG247 writes: "Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono has told IGN that it now “feels right” to bring back the Onimusha series.

The actioner hasn’t seen any new titles since the release of Dawn of Dreams for PS2 in 2006, but Ono said he feels good about a reboot, but that it would need changes.

“The time feels right to me. It feels like it’s the time to resurrect that series” he told the site. “But I wouldn’t want to do the things we’ve done before. I think it might be time to progress beyond the standard single-player adventure.

“There should be ways to expand upon what we’ve done while involving the community more. Perhaps implement some sort of multiplayer into a game like that.”

Ono added: “I don’t have those ideas solidified yet, but when these ideas come to fruition, when I feel good about them and I feel we can do something,

“I will most certainly take them in for approval with the higher-ups. It’s something I’m very interested in doing.”"

It'll go multiplatform and suffer the same fate as DevilMayCry.

rockleex4830d ago

Onimusha with 4 player co-op online and offline.

16 player battles competitive online. 4 player splitscreen online/offline.

Gain stats and abilities in multiplayer.

Andreas-Sword4829d ago

I think, multiplayer is very good for Onimusha.

Pootangpie4829d ago

conspircy thoery alert or a fanboy using retarded assumption?

RedPawn4830d ago

I wonder if they'll keep the new antagonist a successive real like ruler of Nihon?

KiasuKiasiMan4830d ago

Honestly, I'll LOVE a onimusha and dino crisis sequel on the NGP. I was actually thinking about it last night, and was surprised to see this article this morning.

rezzah4830d ago

Thatd be nice but People would prefer a PS3 version much more.

Stealth20k4830d ago

put it on the ps3 only for onimusha

redDevil874830d ago

If they brought onimusha back right now i'd be happy, but Capcom have been poor this gen so i wouldn't expect to much from it.

Go And Vote For Onimusha In Capcom's Survey, This Gem Deserves As Much

Hanzala from eXputer says, "Onimusha deserves a proper Resident Evil-style comeback as much as the other Capcom gems, and I'm glad they might get the chance after all."

H967d ago

I don't know man, Onimusha for modern audiences doesn't sound like a good idea

badboyz0967d ago

Loved the Onimusha series on my ps2 just as much as DmC.

shinoff218367d ago

Hell naw. I voted for breath of fire. It's thr best choice imo.

Please vote breath of fire.

CrimsonWing6967d ago

Breath of Fire 3 got my vote. 3 and 4 are glorious games to me, but I could only pick one.

Unknown_Gamer579467d ago (Edited 67d ago )

I did vote for a Breath of Fire 1-3 remake in the remake section, and it was one of my three choices in series I wish would make a comeback.

SimpleSlave67d ago

Why, though? With Nioh, Sekiro, and every other From Software game with a Samurai build in it, what's the point? The lore? Was it really so unique and interesting that it warrant this "beg Capcom" movement Capcom keeps telling us we need to do all these years? Fudge no. Either make a game or don't but stop this "fans need to game beg or else" bs.

Take Castlevania for example. What's the point in a new entry? From Software literally gave us the entire plotline in Bloodborne with Cainhurst Castle and then some. They also let you play as a Belmont/Alucard build in most of their other games so a new Castlevania is not warranted. Now, if Konami wants to do something, sure, but otherwise? I ain't begging. I'm good actually.

These companies are ran by idiots, that's for sure. Read the market. See the games that are coming out that people are loving and if you have an old IP that fits the bill? Well? Do something about it ya goofs! Otherwise? Let the IP go to the public domain. Trust me, bro. The internet will do a far better job - and worst - than you ever will with all these dormant or dead IPs.

Some Indie devs are even making Dino Crisis like games and people are excited for it. And what is Capcom doing? Sending surveys...FFS!

Get the fudge out of here Crap.com

The Capcom Series Most in Need of Revival

Capcom recently revealed interest in reviving their dormant IPs, so it's time to look at which Capcom series would make sense to return.

Knightofelemia697d ago

Breath of Fire, Knights of the Round, Saturday Night Slam Masters, a proper Bionic Commando game, Ghosts and Goblins. I am all down for Dino Crisis loved 1 and 2 one thing I like about Capcom is their massive library of games that need to be brought back to life. Next to Konami, Namco, Sega, old Squaresoft, Capcom was and is another one of my favorite developers. I would like it if Disney would just let Capcom make a Marvel game or two or Disney should let Capcom handle some Disney games. Capcom pulled of some great games with both Disney characters and Marvel characters.

Chevalier696d ago

All those plus Rival Schools, Powerstone, Darkstalkers, Dungeons and Dragons and Aliens vs Predator.

Terry_B697d ago

Rival Schools, Darkstalkers, Captain Commando, Dino Crisis and Breath of Fire.

CrimsonWing69696d ago

I feel like Darkstalkers will get SJWd, but I still want it

RyanShutup696d ago

The Japanese seem to be immune to that bullshit... so far at least anyway.

shinoff2183696d ago

Breath of fire would be number one choice.

Glad to see it getting some love in the comments. I loved these games 1 through 4.
Not dragon quarter

Godmars290696d ago

Dark Stalkers, any fighting game - or side scroller - really, just not with SF's current art direction.

Capcom Looks to Revive Dormant Franchises

Capcom is looking to bring back some of its dormant franchises, according to recent investor relations communications.

gangsta_red704d ago

Capcom, may I suggest Asura's Wrath...less QTEs

God Hand
Dino Crisis
Rival Schools
Darkstalkers

Seriously, Capcom has such an incredible history. they could bring back so many games and make it work

Atom666703d ago

That new dino game made me lose hope on a new Dino Crisis.

I'll never understand why we haven't seen a new Darkstalkers, either.

kevco33702d ago

Capcom seems to have tried to find an audience for Darkstalkers several times - with guest appearances and digital re-releases etc. - but if there's simply not enough interest they won't invest in a new game.

Bobertt702d ago

Asura's Wrath had a good ending no need to change it to make a sequel.

Knightofelemia703d ago (Edited 703d ago )

I am all down for Dino Crisis if they don't botch it, Breath of Fire would also be great, Onimusha, I am all down for Final Fight, Knights of the Round, Saturday Night Slam Masters, Darkstalkers, Clock Tower, and a decent Bionic Commando. I'd also like to see Demons Crest and a decent Ghouls and Ghosts game one thing I like about Capcom is their library of games. Capcom was another developer I really loved back in the day, along with Konami before they flipped off the gaming world, Squaresoft also use to be good as well.

CobraKai702d ago

I’d love a Saturday Night Slam Masters and Onimusha.

RauLeCreuset702d ago

I'm with both of you on Slam Masters. One of the best wrestling games ever made. Think Street Fighter in a wrestling ring, for those unfamiliar.

Omegasyde702d ago

Would love a 2nd Dragons Dogma!
Very underrated game.

babadivad702d ago

This is the correct answer. I'm playing both games on my Xbox and forgot how insanely fun those games were.

sourOG702d ago

So many good memories with this game. I don’t know how I would like it these days.

babadivad702d ago

I can confirm, they are still a ton of fun.

sourOG702d ago

Word. My memories are more about the people I was playing with rather than the game itself lol. I remember having a blast swinging around and chucking shit at people though. Was there any single player content?
