Hopefully they actually play the game and make it better than 3.

The one thing I enjoy about 3 is the fact the wacky western characters have thus far (I am a ways into 3) gone on hiatus. It has a more traditional setting and less of the Afro Samurai take that popped up in the first 2. I like Afro Samurai for what it is but enough already.

We already have Samurai games with androgynous, mostly western looking characters sporting meticulously maintained coifs. A more traditional realistic approach is needed. Hopefully 4 will go that way although looking at the screens I see everything from pirates to business men. WTF?

I'm guessing it's set in a more modern time. WOTS3 was set in the Sengoku Period, I think. There's only one really androgynous character in that game, which is one thing I like about it.

Have to say, the graphics look like they've taken a big step up. Your character even talks now, which is great. Hope customization is improved, maybe let us buy separate items of clothing instead of just selecting one outfit at the start. There's supposed to be more cutscene interactions, one thing I loved about WOTS3.

Way of the Samurai has always been a coin toss to me.I enjoy being a badass Samurai while exploring Shogun era Japan but the poor graphics and weak story often drag the game down.Good ideas in the series but I wish the production values were higher

I loved the first one, though.

I heard that Yakuza spin off game set in Edo Japan is pretty good? Kenzan is it? Maybe one day Sega will localise it. I agree with you though, I would love a really good samurai game with good production values. Re live the old samurai movies

Way of the samurai 1 was incredible. Better story of the 3. Better soundtrack of the 3. Better Characters of the 3.

Way of the Samurai 4 better step it up. I was disappointed with 3. I just got bored wit it after a few hours.

Agreed x10

The first WotS was seriously one of the best games I played on the PS2. Pretty much the ultimate samurai simulator.

No love for Fist Samurai or Second Samurai on Commodore Amiga?! Outrageous 😄

Umb624d ago

I know right. How about Lords of the Rising Sun by Cinemaware on the Amiga.

Maybe by the author is too young to remember those masterpieces, or I'm too old and have experienced them!

Cosmoplayer84624d ago

For me the onimusha series is the best samurai game ever made!

MWH624d ago

The fondest feudal japan game experiences i had were Samurai Shodown and Onimusha, especially Onimusha 1 and 2, they were the best of the best.

Replay and Investment in Way of the Samurai 4

Bit Cultures writes: Great video games incentivize players to return time and time again. Some games accomplish this through collectibles, a new game plus mode, harder difficulty levels, multiplayer, or different play styles. Bulletstorm, while an absolute raunchy, “arcadey” thrill and one of my favorite games, only witnessed a single playthrough. The mature banter, kill combos and over-the-top moments kept me hooked, but left me wavering after the campaign. Games such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Fallout: New Vegas and the Mass Effect series, however, easily garnered second, third and sometimes even fourth playthroughs. There are tons of nuances in these games to bring players back into the digital worlds. Similarly, Way of the Samurai 4, a third-person, hack and slash role-playing game, utilizes many elements from the latter three titles in order to keep players playing. The one major difference between replaying Way of the Samurai 4 and the other grand RPGs, however, is a player’s investment of hours in the campaign. A single playthrough of Way of the Samurai 4 may take up to anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. Through creative use of a choice-driven story line, a rewarding new game plus mode and a variety of unlockable items and weapons, Way of the Samurai 4 offers a replayable campaign without the burden of dedicating absurd amount of hours to a single playthrough.
