The Death of ‘Call of Duty’

There was a time.

There was a time where Call of Duty was a flickering hope in the eyes of every man and boy, where the reveal trailer of each new title brought butterflies to your stomach and made your hairs stand to attention out of damned respect. There was a time when Call of Duty stood for something more; for realism, for good story, for amazing multiplayer…for quality.

And then they frakked it up.

Wager matches, theatre mode, and COD Points. Those are 3 pretty big changes to the series. I personally think Black Ops is the best installment next to CoD4.

Yeah, and when CoD dies, another franchise will take it's place and people will just be making the same complaints. Technical issues aside, CoD IS fun, there's no denying that. Better to have a game that that at the top rather than something that is genuinely shite.

What with all the CODBO hate. It a fun balanced game. Also the guy keep crying about change but when he mentions COD in space. he not happy. You seriously can't make COD fanboys happy. Treyarch is doing a good job with the COD franchise so stop complaining.

Their is about 400,000 people playing black ops right now on xbox live, so call of duty is very much alive. I don't care about what other people think, I love black ops. Bitch all you want, but their is millions of people that play it everyday.

It's cool to hate Call of Duty on interwebz message boards but the fact is it's the most popular gaming series in the freaking world right now. Sure, someday soon, it'll probably start to experience a down swing like Guitar Hero or Tony Hawk or One on One fighting games that were all the rage in the 90s. Okay, cool, SO WHAT?

that doesn't change the fact that right now, EVERYONE is playing it and it is a freaking blast. I love the MP FPSs. I have since Quake.

So, WTF, It doesn't really have to change IMHO. Something else will replace it eventually as a natural evolution and then all you guys can hate THAT. So all you guys who hate it so much go do something awesome like play Angry Birds or something else retarded on your iPad or whatever it is you do when you're not complaining about the most popular gaming series on the planet.

How could you honestly sit there and say MW2 was fun. That game was so flawed and unbalanced it ruined the COD name for me. Treyarch brougth this series back from the grasp of devastation that IW did with MW2.

I hope IW learned from the "over-the-top" nonsense that failed in MW2 and make a game closer to COD4.

as above: Call of Duty 4 was the last great PC COD game, I still play it almost daily. Cod5 was pretty good and i play that every other day. This was when the games where made for the PC and they took a few years to develop, then ported to the console, this was when It worked for everyone, great finished product,everyones happy!. Now its bash a pile of shite out every year scenerio, mostly driven by the console market, fair enough, but it has killed the quality for everyone. Console gamers still tend to love it, imagine how much you would love it if the game was sold to you polished and finished?.

Call of Duty would be awesome if they just took a year off. Every year thing is getting stale. I know its a smart business move, but my god. If you want to keep making money off of CoD then you need to take a year off... let hype build for the next one then release.

Call of Duty was dead to me once Black Ops came out.

COD1/COD2/COD4 = Awesome!

COD3/COD: WAW/COD: BO/MW2 = Epic Fail.
(Most of these titles were just rushed or the online wasn't balanced.)

I've moved on to other games.

Let's hope other gamers do the same.

Indeed its sad to say that I never bought MW2 (made for consoles and backward ported, no lean!! wtf!) BO another epic fail, feels like playing an 80s arcade shoot em up! dull.
It goes to show how great Cod4 was that I and soooo many people are stil playing it like 4 years later and a lot longer. After almost a decade playing COD online, my next move will be to another title completely! not to another CoD. Crysis 2 Multi it looking good and I know they will develop it properly for the PC!
