I have a few friends who used to have modded xbox's, but the person that modded their xbox told them never to update firmware via xbox live unless its a game update.
All firmware updates have to be edited so pirated games can work.

Whatever it was, it was unusual. Microsoft only updates once or twice a year, and they usually add significant changes. This update was unannounced. It was also fairly large. It took a few minutes with my 20Mbps connection.

I noticed that when 360 has piracy, we only have stories about it when its fixed. Yet when PS3 has ONE title pirated, we get a front page story in seconds.

I think this is because piracy on the 360 is almost as old as the 360. therefor its not news anymore. While the ps3 held out for almost 5 years and just got hacked. As a console hacker i will say the ps3 hack has much greater implications then the 360 because we have the master key for the ps3 so we can do whatever we want on the cosole..granted Sony could ban us from the psn.

even though MS made a AP patch in this update and did not tell anyone does not mean they got the mass majority of the modders. the only modders that got caught were half wit morons. Most modders don't install updates until they get the all clear from C4EVA. This is how most modders avoid the banhammer for years. (they don't download the update when it comes out and they wait for a patch to fix the problem from c4eva)
