Article from theplaystationshow.com....no bias there! LOL

I agree with everything but 3D and the fact that it's a Sony product. We can take a look at DS and PSP and see that that didn't work so well right there. In terms of sales, i think 3DS will be a huge hit. To me the PSP2 sounds like it's going to be one hell of an expensive handheld. If Nintendo is shipping 3DS for about $300, I just don't see the PSP2 being any cheaper. If they can somehow manage to get sell it at $200 and with all those features, then it could easily beat 3DS. But like i said i don't see it being any cheaper.

joydestroy4865d ago

if the 3DS is coming in at $300, i expect the PSP2 to initially sell for $400 which sounds ludicrous but it's gonna have some amazing features. it'll basically be a portable PS3. HDMI out + connectivity with the DS3 and ports of great franchises like KZ, GoW, and Uncharted will make it a hit in my book. i will wait for the second iteration of said device, though

Dark_Charizard4865d ago (Edited 4865d ago )

1. It does 3D without glasses
2. It has a head start of at least 6-12 months
3. Stellar 1st party lineup
4. Stellar 3rd party lineup
5. Nintendo created the handheld video game console (Gameboy), and dominated any competition ever since. I don't see it being an different this time.

"ThePlayStationShow.com: Top 5 Reasons the PSP2 Will Dominate the 3DS"

Who?!?! Who is going to take that bet?

Edit: 3DS=SUPERB launch line up + 3D with no glasses. Good luck Sony and the PSP2, you're certainly going to need it.

Dac2u4865d ago (Edited 4865d ago )

For those who didn't know, they 3DS is being released at $250 USD.

Imo, Nintendo has the handheld market locked down for now. Things may change if Apple jumps on board. I think the PSP2 will do well as long as they don't go the PSPGo route. But, I just can't see the PSP2 beating the 3DS.

The only thing that will hurt Nintendo, is if all the rumors of 3D being harmful turn out to be true. Then Nintendo will have a major crisis on their hands.

darthv724865d ago (Edited 4865d ago )

"5 reasons the psp2 will dominate the 3ds"...and I need just one to say it wont.

"Nintendo"

The 3ds could be like the ipad. It has the big name backing and popularity of the other devices to basically sell itself. That doesnt mean it is "THE BEST".

iphone and ipad arent the best in their respected markets but they had the popularity to win over the crowd. There are other tablets and phones superior just as the psp2 will be superior technically to the 3ds.

Sony needs to be aggressive this time around if they want a bigger piece of the portable market.

@active...yeah that might seem cool but I dont know about you but projecting an image is the same as blowing it up and you lose clarity not to mention you wouldnt be able to use a wall. To many imperfections.

A portable screen, yeah but then you are carrying around to much stuff. It defeats the purpose of being portable and the best image anyway would be on the native screen. I have a go and one of those docking craddles. I like to plug it in to my tv and play using a regular controller sometimes but the best image quality is the psp screen itself.

Active Reload4865d ago (Edited 4865d ago )

The only thing I see the PSP2 being able to do without getting beaten so badly is to make the games both hard copy and downloadable. Anything else needed to stave off Nintendo's dominance is to either have 3D without glasses also, or....damn, I don't know what else.

Edit: If the PSP2 has a mini projector inside to shoot an image onto a flat surface while playing, then it would have a fighting chance. Damn, I need to be working for these companies. I hate letting my ideas get away for free, lol.

heroicjanitor4865d ago

@Active Reload
The 3DS has a shit launch line-up. It will destroy the psp2 in sales though due to price, target demographic and a headstart.

Active Reload4865d ago (Edited 4865d ago )

@darth, yeah, but some work around could be done. I mean, the projection doesn't even have to be all that large...32" maybe? I was just trying to put myself in Sony's shoes, with what its up against in the handheld realm and think of what could compete, feature wise, against the 3DS.

Edit: @hero, out of all those games you're claiming they're all sh*t? Then again, I was thinking more of the 30 games during the 3 month launch window Nintendo has planned.

Edit:@hero, fair enough. I don't know if I need to remind everyone, but the 3DS will also be able to play movies in 3D. Thats big! Although it would suck if they didn't have movies at launch also.

ABizzel14865d ago

The PSP2 will be better than the 3DS hardware wise, just like the PSP was.

But sales wise it has it's work cut out for it. Seriously.

Millah4865d ago (Edited 4865d ago )

@Darthv72, I can't stand when people always argue that certain products are only popular because of "name brand." Well the product had to something right in the FIRST PLACE to even get that "name brand," so clearly Nintendo did something right. Same with Apple, they literally invented the entire mobile OS market as it exists today and everyone else is just copying, there's a reason for their success. Nintendo invented handheld gaming practically and they've always taken the right approach on comparison to competitors, who all just tried to focus on outperforming gameboys specs instead of focusing on cost and mobility. That's why Nintendo has always succeeded in handhelds. Well see how it works for them this time, but people like you are just so out of touch.

Nntendos "name brand" didn't save them from being overtaken in the console market when Sony blew them away with the Playstation. There's a reason for that too, because Nintendo made too many mistakes and Sony did too many things right.

So save your "name brand" bs. It's ignorant. Name brand isn't everything in the consumer electronics market. Products are. If you make a product that is highly appealing to the average consumer, then chances are they will want to buy it. Higher specs does not automatically make something a better PRODUCT as you seem to think.

heroicjanitor4865d ago

@Active
I was thinking the games that launch with it, there are like 10 and none are worth getting the console for. I haven't gone through the ones that launch within a few months of it.

Ju4865d ago

3DS, 320x240, ok, 3D and $250? Are you serious? 3D is a nice gimmick. People - especially who have a DS - will run out in droved to get one, no doubt about it. Not for me. Most phones will be a better alternative for a quick on the go. What's left is DS specific exclusive which will carry the brand. But that's about it. What's with that damn low res? I mean, 640x400 or something, but that low? WTH.

Anyhow, I want to see what the PSP2 will deliver. Even that will be a challenge against current phones and tablets if it doesn't push the boundaries significantly above those. And yes, I mean PS3 like visuals on a small screen (960x540 - half 1080) with something like UC or KZ. Then it can be a success. Sony will sell raw power, that's their strong argument. DS will sell existing pimped content, as always (and expand a little into hardcore).

darthv724865d ago (Edited 4865d ago )

first off...dont be so disrespecful to insult someone simply because you may disagree with their way of thinking.

second...there are many factors in why somethings happen. Nintendo sticking with carts for the n64 vs cheaper higher capacity cd's like ps1 and saturn used.

Apple and leveraging the popularity of the ipod and itunes to create a phone. Which in turn sparked another popular device. As I said. It may be the mass market appeal but it isnt the best on the market.

You want to disagree with nintendo having a lock on the market...fine. Take that up with nintendo. I am just stating what has been the market trend.

And you are right in the sense that name brand doesnt always work but it sure does help. Sony is aware of that as well. That's why i said they need to be aggressive in making the psp2 a marketing machine.

"Higher specs does not automatically make something a better product." So true.

It is funny you say that because you and i are on the same page but just reading the words differently. I like to say the best selling product is not always the best (most powerful) on the market. Just look at the wii as compared to the ps3. I didnt disagree with you by the way.

A very large number of things need to happen in order for the PSP2 to beat 3DS, let alone "dominate" it. There are a few uncertainties this time around for the 3DS, so I'll be watching initial sales numbers for the 3DS very closely.

ediddy9994865d ago

I will be more interested in the PSP2 sales number and how fast it will get hacked. Both the PSP and the DS had big hacking problems, so it will be interesting to see if that happens again.

GodofSackboy4865d ago

Anyone that thinks the 3ds will be better is living in 1989

Muletroid4865d ago (Edited 4865d ago )

1989? um wasn't that the year nintendo pretty much saved the gaming market from the crash and their products were hotter than the sun?

qface644865d ago

oh ho ho ho i see what you did there lol

EYEamNUMBER14865d ago

@trevonn95

the crash happened much earlier but the the saving didn't actually happen until much later
nintendo was practically on fire in 1989

Active Reload4865d ago

@Godofsackboy, seriously, wtf? Wow, you must know something we don't...spill it!!!

Theyellowflash304865d ago

Better is all based on the user. Which for most people dictated by the games. If you like Zelda, Mario, and Metroid chances are your going to think the 3DS is better. If you like Sony titles chances are PSP2 will be better. But 3-D is good, being able to record and take pictures in 3-D is cool, and street + spot pass look interesting. So the 3DS could end up being better than the PSP2

eagle214865d ago (Edited 4865d ago )

i must be living in 1989 then...lol. :)

how do you not launch with king nintendo and still get to dominate them? And lol at people still speculating the launch price of 3DS in the USA.....did you see the news earlier? It's $249...

AWBrawler4864d ago

they don't care, they want to say its $300 in hopes that Big N change their minds and gives SONY and opening for a lower price

k-dillinger4865d ago

i think psp2 will beat 3ds with sales won't dominate but i think it will outsell it and i say psp2 $350 and 3ds $300 but im siding with the psp with this one

Theyellowflash304865d ago

The 3DS is $250 the PSP2 is going to be $279.99 in my opinion. But don't be surprised if there is a $300 price tag. Nintendo always wins the handheld war so I don't think the PSP2 can compete sales wise.

EYEamNUMBER14865d ago

280? that's dream talk
if all the rumors im hearing are true just wait when they roll it out in japan your probably gonna hear a 399 to 349 minimum price for japan and a 350-300 minimum for the US and im honestly skeptical on the minimum

gamerz4865d ago

At $250, I think Sony will be more aggressive this time and match the 3DS price. They will both be $250.

qface644865d ago

huh? 3ds is 250 though? its all over the internet

Why in fucks name did the designs for the mc make it through the planing stages of development? They are by far the worse thing pokemon have produced.

MeteorPanda2430d ago

but...you customize your own characters now? l dont like that boys neck. holy shit it's about as strong as a twig

Antnee5342429d ago

I understand that, but if you pick a boy you get the worse choices.

MeteorPanda2429d ago

oh for sure. The franchise just shits on the male version more and more per new entry, lol

Antnee5342429d ago

It's so weird being that the player base is 70/30 male you know. You would think that they would give the males a better choice selection.
