MMO Players Raise Nearly $2,000 For Flood Victims

"Though outsiders may not think it, gaming communities, no matter how small or large, are also platforms for charity events as demonstrated this past weekend. Funny, when countries like Pakistan are ravaged with earthquakes and floods, killing thousands of people, no one bats an eye.

IHateYouFanboys4857d ago

pretty sure thats not true.

you dont seem to understand how bad the floods in Queensland were. i live around Brisbane, and literally half the city or more was underwater. the main CBD was SHUT DOWN for days, with thousands of shops/houses being filled with water/sewage/mud/plants/etc. the estimated cleanup bill is well over $10 BILLION, with the city not expected to be back to normal for YEARS. most of the shops in and around brisbane have run out of food/water as trucks/boats cant get in to deliver, and even if they could, lots of shops were filled with water up to their roof for 2-3 days.

over 75% of the entire state of QLD was classed as a 'disaster zone' - thats something like 20% of the USA in terms of area. it wasnt some little rain caused flood - the brisbane river, which the city is built around, swelled to almost 5m above its usual level. it truly was a natural disaster, and one that thousands of people and the entire countries economy will be reeling from for years.

One-Fifth of the ENTIRE country of Pakistan was underwater, the floods themselves affecting 20 million people, and an estimated total of 2000 deaths. That means, the amount of people affected is the combined total of those affected in the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, 2005 kashmir earthquake, and the 2010 haiti earthquake.

THE ESTIMATED TOTAL OF THE DEVASTATION OF PAKISTAN IS SAID TO BE AS MUCH AS $43 BILLION US DOLLARS. And that is despite only 20% of the aid relief funds were recieved, forcing 10 million people to drink unsafe water.

Your move you ignorant prick.

IHateYouFanboys4857d ago

im the ignorant prick? not really.

Pakistans area is 800 000km^2. Australias is 7 700 000km^2. QLD is about 1/4 of that in size - which means its a far bigger area of QLD that flooded than that of Pakistan. so while 1/5th of Pakistan was underwater, about the same amount of AUSTRALIA was underwater. the difference is that 1/5th of Australia is equal to about 2 times the area of Pakistan.

the early estimates of lost revenue from Australias GDP were about $30 billion australian dollars (which atm is pretty much the equivalent, if not more US dollars). no doubt it will be much higher than this after its all said and done.

The Pakistan floods affected more people because Pakistan has about 8 times as many people as the entire country of Australia has, all crammed into an area about half the size of Queensland (which is about 1/4 of Australia). also because the flooding in the main part of QLD - Brisbane - wasnt flash flooding, it was the river just rising and rising and rising over days, everyone had time to evacuate, so basically noone couldve got caught in the flood and died. pretty much every death in the flood was out in the regional areas where it was flash flooding just tearing over the country side and tearing peoples houses to bits.

and where is australias aid relief? Australia hasnt gotten over $1b in relief from other countries like Pakistan did. Australias always the first to help out other countries - the bali bombings, the US after September 11 (which we are still over there helping with btw), the boxing day tsunami, etc etc.

dont go calling me ignorant when you clearly havent got the slightest idea about the extent of the flooding in Queensland. idiot.
