LOL: MS Loves Windows Phone Jailbreaker, Gives him a T-shirt

Well well, now this is interesting. As opposed to hunting him down like a dirty dawg, MS rewarded the first accaimed jailbreaker of the Windows 7. They rewarded him with a rather smart t-shirt that read "I was the first to jailbreak Windows Phone 7, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt."

Geohot got a new car, television interview, and money. I'd be pissed off too.

The only suit he got was a lawsuit. =/

Wonder what they would give to someone that completely broke open microsoft's DRM and activation system for Windows 7 x64....?

I bet it wouldnt be a Tshirt. Its one thing if a major source of income is not really threatened by jailbreaking, but it would be another totally if it meant hacking could cost microsoft or business partners hundreds of millions of dollars.

Funny? Good PR stunt? Without doubt. Hugely hypocritical? Absolutely.

Most of their OS sales are to businesses/corporations.

The typical home-user pirating their OS, although still a concern, isn't that big of a deal. They still keep their 'market share' if the majority is using their OS.
As long as the numbers show that Windows is the most common OS, they'll be raking in the cash.

Microsoft is just desperate for some much needed attention to their WP7 platform. Their acting as if they're all pro-dev creativity etc, but in reality they've seen the kinds of publicity iPhone and PS3 jailbreaks have gotten and they want that spotlight on WP7. The difference is that the publicity with the iPhone and PS3 jailbreaks all happened because it was for two extremely popular products.....WP7 not so much.

Its probably made of pure lead anyway.

I don't know if the blind hate is directed towards Microsoft or Angry Birds, but you DO realize that it's going to get millions of downloads, right?

Not saying I'm a fan, just saying that because we don't like something doesn't mean it's going to fail.

i think he's directing that hate towards the game itself, not microsoft.

it has to do with the game's casual focus, and how investors are stating that games like these are the future, even though they suck.
