Co-Optimus - Deathspank Thongs of Virtue Review

Co-Optimus - Since our last time visiting with Deathspank he had a buddy with him - a goofy little wizard named Sparkles. Shortly after completing and thoroughly enjoying the first game, Deathspank makes a triumphant return in a sequel that feels an awful lot like an expansion Deathspank: Thongs of Virtue. Still vanquishing evil, assisting the downtrodden, and battling some pretty outlandish characters, Deathspank has changed settings and sidekicks - and that’s about it.

Boo... DeathSpank is so much fun. This score angers me.

Exactly what BALT says. DeathSpank is nothing short of amazing. From it's gorgeous visuals, to it's hilarious plot and lenghty epic gameplay, DS is definitely some of the best the PSN/XBL has to offer. I played the hell out of it. About 9 hours to complete all the mission and get all the trophies. This sequel is even longer. Not seeing DeathSpank get any love in the wards is a sad disgrace, cuz this series won my personl Best Downloadable Game of the Year

but the 2nd doesn't have the charms of the 1st IMO. I'll give the 1st 9/10 and the 2nd 8/10. of course that's my opinion but the 1st was hard to put down while the 2nd is not. haven't finish the 2nd but my brother did and I will still say the 1st one is the better one

Way, way off. This review is as absurd as DeathSpank wearing a thong is. This series is bar none the absolute best of the best when you're speaking digitally distributed gaming. There are some just as good, but none that are any better or more quality.

Someone told me to get the 1st one because I only really like older games (nes, arcade, gen) -- I didn't put it down for a week. I got every trophy for it and loved every second of it. I got the 2nd one the day it came out but still haven't had a chance to sit down with it past the 1st 30 min I believe.

As someone who isn't a gamer, this game is good enough to swing you over the other way for a week or two. Trust me.

I definitely concur with you and FrankMcSpank above, this game was a ton of fun, and a very different. It was a refreshing change of pace compared to many other downloadable titles available. I like the light-hearted comedy, and the fact that it's voiced by the same voice actor who plays Captain Quark on the Ratchet and Clank games makes it even better. The first Deathspank won me over with the demo, so this one was a first day purchase regardless. And even though the co-op is sort of just "tacked on", it's still been a lot of fun to mess with that as well. So I definitely disagree with this reviewer's opinion and the score.

Lucreto4858d ago

Actually it is a different voice actor. It sounds like Quark but it is not him.

Also Deathspank is awesome.

akiraburn4858d ago

Ah really? I had no idea. I just assumed that it was the same guy, since they sound nearly identical. Thanks for the info.

I love Deathspank, but I'm holding off on getting this DLC. I heard there were some quest/save -breaking glitches...anyone know if they got fixed yet?

The Five Weirdest Trophy / Achievement Tasks

"Ever since games got more complex, there have been fairly odd tasks you can perform. Some of these have a use while some are just Easter eggs and others just are out of place. After trophies/achievements came into play, some games assigned an award for these tasks. While not every task is off the wall weird, some are worth noting and we’ve compiled five of the pretty random trophies we could find" - JPS

the weirdest achievement I've encountered is when I was playing MGS HD Collection. I have to kiss a poster of a sexy girl in the locker lol

Lavitz19894480d ago

There are a lot of weird MGS HD trophies.

NoobJobz4480d ago

3/5 of those weren't weird at all.

BitbyDeath4480d ago

I thought tying a lady to the traintracks and waiting for the train in RDR was the weirdest one for me.

admiralvic4480d ago

its weird to do the opposite, but since its a western cliche it's highly debatable. (in my opinion)
