Following the release of John Daly’s ProStroke Golf, O-Games has secured themselves a second ‘first’ for PlayStation Move: the first darts simulator for Sony’s new motion-controller in the form of PDC World Championship Darts: Pro Tour. Available now, PDC World Championship Darts: Pro Tour aims to please a wide range of gamers, from those who have long been fans of the PDC World Championship Darts series to those simply looking for a new title to go with their newly purchased PlayStation Move accessory. Luckily, it has definitely covered one of those bases.
Now we love darts here at Brash Games towers, and it’s nice to see publishers and developers taking an interest in what is, essentially, a European sport (yes, it is recognised as a sport, but probably in much the same way as Pete Best is recognised as a woman – begrudgingly and rather erroneously) that isn’t ‘saccer’. The problem comes when you realise that the quality of the production values of a sports (stop chuckling, you!) franchise is directly related to the global turnover of said sport.

The world of professional Darts is followed by fans on television as well as being a popular Pub game, the art of throwing darts at a circular dartboard is becoming more popular across the World as well as where it originated as a sport from, the UK. PDC World Championship Darts: Pro Tour is a Darts game which is available on Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii with the PS3 version being able to use PlayStation Move and the Wii being able to use Wii Motion Plus; funnily enough the Xbox 360 one does not use Kinect, this game is crying out for the use of Kinect so why? It is the Xbox 360 version which was played in this review.
The most consistent and painful accusation levelled against darts is, of course, that it isn’t a real sport. Those with dissenting voices point directly to the less than Olympian levels of athleticism required to triumph in its highest echelons as their justification for placing the pastime in the derogatory ‘pub games’ category; and their argument is one that’s often hard to rebut. Especially when many pro players look as if they’d need an all-you-can-eat buffet waiting for them at the top and a defibrillator on standby at the bottom before they’d agree to attempt a flight of stairs.
