Top Five Games You Probably Missed in 2010

As we progress further and further into this generation of gaming, the number of quality titles released each given year grows. All though more great games is always a good thing, there will undoubtedly be some that fall by the wayside, as gamers focus more on the big name titles. PlayStation LifeStyle has compiled a top five list of PS3 games that fared well critically, but lacked the overall selling power of the bigger titles.

I have to admit, I did miss those games. Well, not Castlevania, but I didn't finish it. It was too dull and repetitive.

I guess what I am saying is... I missed these games for a reason.

This all boils down to too many good games being released. Gamers just don't have the disposable income needed to keep up with all the good games, so instead they only buy great games. Good just isn't good enough for most anymore.

doctorstrange4882d ago

Unless a game is part of an established franchise it really has to be something very special to be noticed

wolfehound224882d ago

Agreed, but for me a lot of these games were some of my favorite, and unlike most gamers I was able to play 40 different games this year, but that is the exception.

With there being so many games, sometimes good games get passed over by the ones that have a bigger budget. So maybe in the next year when your looking through the bargain bin, you will come across one of these and now you know it is worth a play.

dragon824882d ago

I have also played over 40 different games this year. Probably closer to 60 actually.

Focker4204882d ago

Out of those I played...

Enslaved, which sucked, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone

Castlevania, which was decent. It was fun for the first 20 hours and then it became a chore just to finish it.

3D Dot Game Heroes, which was awesome, I had a blast with it and I was definitely surprised at just how fun it was. It really didn't get the recognition it deserves.

dragon824882d ago

The only one I have played is 3D Dot Game Heroes.

Split Second is pretty good, for it's multi-player.. But only pick it up when you see it in the bargain bin later next year. It's not worth full price imo

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is pretty good as well, it has no multi-player but it does have quite a lengthy single-player campaign. Again, Pick that up later next year also as it will have no doubt been dropped in price immensely.

You left out The Darkness games bring those back

fan_of_gaming32d ago

The head of Nightdive Studios has posted that The Darkness is on their list of games they want to do, so hopefully something comes from that

Yi-Long32d ago

Little Big Planet 1 and 2 deserve a mention, IMO.

Good call on Motorstorm, a game released 2 gens ago but still looks and feels so good. Motorstorm 2 and Motorstorm RC were gems as well. They followed up the Motorstorm games with the brilliant Driveclub, which still manages to put modern racing games to shame. Imagine closing down a studio as talented as that ... (!) Incredible.

A little 'arcade-gem' back then was The Last Guy, a top down 'follow the leader' snake-like game where you had to find and lead survivors to safety during an alien invasion, on terrible looking 'Google-earth' maps. Graphics were poor, even back then, but would love that same gameplay with modern maps and graphics.

Street Fighter 4, once it finally had a full roster, was quite good, but it was always an ugly game, sadly. Imagine bringing that back while using the current SF6 engine.

Good suggestions, I'd be in for
LittleBigPlanet
LittleBigPlanet 2
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
Motorstorm: RC

God damn I love motorstorm so much

At the time I had a low-mid range sony 40” tv, The latency to the controller was waaaay too high, would to play a modern version

In saying that later I got a 3d lg tv and playing the 3d motorstorm in my bedroom with the environment crumbling around the track, was something special, specially compared to what others were playing at the time, will always remember that

Some good choices here and Resistance: Fall of Man is my most wanted PS3 remaster/remake. Not sure about their claim it was Sony's answer to Gears of War though.

CrimsonWing6932d ago

I’d rather have sequels than remakes. Look at Dead Space 1 Remake. Would’ve been cooler if we got a new entry and it failed with sales sealing the fate of a sequel rather than just replay the same game and it fail in sales and we never get a new entry.

Remakes are great for things like PS2 and earlier games to really get a crazy new graphical coat, but I think we should ease up on all these remakes and actually do sequels.

fan_of_gaming32d ago

Yeah for sure, sequels would be ideal. But in the current market environment where many big publishers are risk-averse, I'd rather get a remaster or remake that a developer can do on a budget that will be approved, rather than nothing for an IP.

Inverno32d ago

I rather they remaster and port over to PC and current gen all the games permanently stuck on PS360. Those games don't need remakes, they need to be given a chance to live again outside of their confined consoles and then give a few proper sequels. Like Sleeping Dogs, Motor Storm, LA Noir, should get another entry.

fan_of_gaming32d ago

Yeah I'd be fine with remasters of PS3 games too, they don't have to be remakes.

These PS3 Games are Going to get Really Expensive

Could you get rich by investing in PS3 games? Almost definitely not. Can you make a few bucks by flipping PS3 games over the years? Yeah, sure! It wouldn’t even be that difficult. But let’s face it: Once these games are in your collection, you’re probably keeping them forever.

There's a reason I didn't buy most of these when they came out.

MadLad977d ago

After a game's multiple generations old, and can't be had new at a reasonable price, that's when I see nothing wrong with emulation.

What's the point of paying someone scalper prices when the dev/publisher isn't even benefiting from it?

mkis007977d ago

Emulation doesn't stop a games physical box from becoming collectible.

Knightofelemia977d ago

I paid $30 for SH Downpour on PS3 now it's around $70-$85 Canadian Lolipop Chainsaw I paid $15 and it has really gone up in price. I wonder if Transformers War and Fall of Cybertron will go up in price two of the best Transformers games every made.

neutralgamer1992977d ago

In 5 years time all those games will be worth at least $150 to $200 that you listed

977d ago
neutralgamer1992977d ago

Ever since Sony announced that they would shut down PS3 store these prices have skyrocketed and even though Sony backtracked now most gamers realize that it's a matter of time before the PlayStation 3 store is shut down. If you want these games get them while you can even if digital because once that story shut down the physical prices will just go crazy high we saw that already

And many of these games did not sell like crazy amounts so they are limited number of copies available for sale at any given time

MadLad977d ago

Folklore is a game I've always really wanted to play, but I got a PS3 late in the generation, and it was already really expensive to find, being it didn't exactly sell well, therefore was already kind of a collector's item.

Kept hoping I'd find a cheap copy randomly at stores and flea markets, but never happened.

franwex977d ago

I got mine for $5 at Walmart like 10 years ago. I have yet to play it.

neutralgamer1992977d ago

It was available at GameStop for a while for under $20. Don't know har happened but GameStop started to sell their used games based on ebay prices it seems

You can still find it for around $60-70 and which in my opinion is a good price for a game that will be worth double if not triple that in next 5 years

Mr Logic977d ago

Have you considered modding your PS3? Neither Sony or the dev would be getting money from that Folklore purchase. Kind of a victimless crime at that point.

MadLad977d ago (Edited 977d ago )

@neutral

Honestly, I just want to actually give the experience a try. I'm not someone who would buy it at a premium just to potentially rip someone off down the road.
I mean, there are collectors out there and if paying a couple hundred dollars is worth it to them then more power to them, but I'm not one to be on either end of that exchange.

I know it's taboo, but I might dig in and see the state of PS3 emulation on PC. I have a good PC, so it might be able to power through the often times poor performance, being PS3 is known to be hard to emulate.

I've never emulated anything past the PS2/Dreamcast but, as I said in my first post, I don't see anything wrong with emulation if the game you want to play can only be had used, with no money going to the creators.
