War of the exclusives – who has the best lineup in 2011?

PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo Wii (and 3DS) are prepared to throw down in 2011, but which platform has the exclusives necessary to secure itself a victory in the upcoming year?

I'm happy my PS3 will be getting a lot of fun games for it. And I hope that other gamers will be honest enough with themselves to put down their loyalties and see all of the awesome games on the PS3 this year.

BloodyNapkin4887d ago

War of exclusive's? there is no war. Ps3 has it hands down, simple as that.

phatak4887d ago

It mostly depends on the type of gamer u r. If ur a portable gamer U probably would say that Nintendo Is catering to u, If u consider urself a casual gamer then there is microsoft serving u kinect, But if ur a hardcore gamer that wants all types of games and the highest quality exclusives then sony has u covered better than ever next year with like 12 exclusives , not even counting move exclusives. And since I fall under The hardcore category and I presume that most if not everyone here on N4g and for that matter on any gaming website would consider themselves a hardcore gamer, So SOny probably has the best lineup for 2011, Mix of hardcore, casual with move and probably portable 2 with psp 2 I assume, so yea its Sony all the way

bozebo4886d ago

psp/2 is ass, how in hell does it win the portable war?

Thatguy-3104887d ago

Really pointless article since it's pretty obvious who will rule 2011 according to exclusives !!!even a Fanboy can't deny it !!!

@TheLAstGuardian

360 "gamers" have always been an endangered species. Most of the people who own the 360 are not gamers. Up until the 360 came out with its line up of fps games and Gears of War, the majority of 360 owners most likely did not play video games.

At this point I would have to give it to PS3 but MS has every opportunity to change this by announcing some great games at E3. SOmething tell me they are going to focus on Kinect but another part tells me they will finally start to listen to the core audience.

showtimefolks4887d ago

it won't come out in 2011 because E3 in june fall already has 2 games from MS forza 4 and gears 3

i think we will see more games from MS in 2012

but as a gamer from here on out till end of this gen ps3 will have better exclusives and that has been the case since 2007 anyway for most gamers who are not fanboys

MS has to invest into their 1st/2nd part they have to enough with these times exclusives DLC i mean let ps3/xbox360/pc has the dlc and invest taht money into a indie dev and let them make you a few xblive games if not AAA

halo is done with
gears 3 is the end
fable 3 what more
forza 4 already at 4th game
crackdown so much potential and yet so little effort

so i will hold my judgement because i have not seen much form MS coming in 2011.

and don't forget before E3 2010 everyone said the same MS will blow the roof off what happend?

sony announced more exclusives before E3 2010 than MS had in their press conference

candystop4887d ago

From an exclusive standpoint it's hard to argue but 2010 for 360 was just as great as PS3. 2011 can swing either way and there is no reason to believe PS3 is and will be the only game console with games unless(yes your words) your a fan boy. MS has been turning around and this E3 might be the one to change your views. We gave Sony a chance to bring games and now MS deserves the same chance. All the so called better PS3 games are subjective anyway so lets at least agree that E3 will be the show to watch this year.

ASTAROTH4887d ago

OMG!! From an exclusives standpoint the Wii had more and better exclusives this year. You know even if the Wii is a casuals machine it still has games and some of the best this year. Apart from Reach and Mass Effec 2...what other great exclusive the 360 had??. You fanboys tend to always focus on your console of prefference and ignore the other consoles great games.

Anyway just seeing the games list and the suposed releases dates... The PS3 is wining by a LOOOOONNNNNNGGGGGG!!!! shot.

Koolno4887d ago

candystop, delusional much ?

it's incredible.

Even if they announce 10 better games than last year, than can compete with superior games like kz3, uncharted3, infamous2, etc who can't be made on xbox360, simple fact.

Masterchef20074887d ago

Probably core kinect games for 2012 with the dirrection there going. Or Hybrid core games as well.

Imalwaysright4886d ago (Edited 4886d ago )

Im hoping for more exclusives too however i would rather have them announcing at E3 that they bought or opened new development studios.

@ koolno to this day i havent played a game on the PS3 that i found as good or superior to MGS3 and by far the best game i played on my PS3 is Demons Souls wich is far from being the best technical game on the PS3. More powerful hardware in any way shape or form makes a good game. What makes a good game are great developers.

The conclusion at the end says it all really. It's okay for 360 Kinect owners but unless you are interested in multi-platforms only and Kinect your in for a quiet year.

Christopher4887d ago

The gamers who invest in more than one platform.

TheLastGuardian4887d ago

With the money you save from not buy a second console, you could buy more PS3 games. Theres so many PS3 games that interest me, I'd rather buy as many as I can than buy another console and buy games for that console too. Theres enough exclusives and multiplats on the PS3 to keep any gamer satisfied for years without owning any other consoles.

acedoh4887d ago

Who really needs multiple consoles. Yes in a wonderful world we could have someone pay for everything so we wouldn't have to worry about having a job paying for bills and other necessities. Then we can add in hours at work and having something of a social life. Now tell me how much free time you have??? I am curious because some think having more than one console is a good idea. Maybe only if you somehow don't have a job and can stay at home all day. Otherwise if you are a human you need a job and that takes away from free time. So yes one console is good enough for me.

I remember the trolls saying: ''PS3 have no gaems'' ''Blu ray is not needed''

Those trolls suddenly just disappeared.

Looks like PlayStation 3 is the console of choice for the gamer by default.

Masterchef20074887d ago

Now its "XBOX360 has no games" and/or "XBOXlive isnt needed" Funny how things change after several years. I wonder whats going to happen in 2012 when the PS3 is ahead of the 360 sales wise. People are going to resort to saying "at least we got Halo" or "XBOXlive is superior" how about "sales not equal to quality" you will hear these comments a lot in 2012 if the PS3 does indeed overtake the 360 in terms of sales

Didn't we say even the most rabid fanboys couldn't deny the awesome games coming out of the PS3? I wonder what that makes this guy then.

its come to a point where owning a ps3 is not enough, you need to have money to buy the games and also the time to play them

jessupj4886d ago

I agree if you have time to play them all. As of now I won't have time to play all the PS3 exclusives coming out in 2011 and I still have a huge backlog of games.

But I have a fulltime job and a wife.

Aceluffy4887d ago

Is this a trick question ?

TheDivine4887d ago

Sorry id go with my 360, ps3, and wii. Dont miss anything. I wouldnt consider just upcoming games anyways, if you only have one system it also counts what games are already released right? I play most games on my 360 and far more exclusives but love my ps3 for a handful of great games and online/media exc. Ps3 has a better lineup but 360 has abetter library to me. Depends on your tastes, i like rpgs thus the 360. More jrpgs and wrpgs.

gameraxis4886d ago (Edited 4886d ago )

i don't know this sites reputation... (if their sided or not), but i do agree with them... Now of course some of u are saying "sure u doo u damn fanboy" but i honestly can't wait until gears 3 comes out, and i doubt it, but if cryteks game comes even close to GOW3's caliber in the slash/adventure genre then I'm excited for that too... but... this dudes right, I'm sorry. But by saying that, he's also right about any unannounced games MS has under their sleeve, could be some crazy stuff, but if its another year of, "we'll ummm throw in 10 new guns in crysis 2" then i don't think exclusive content will overturn Sony's force this time, 2 years ago before the slim, before the price cut, sony had a lesser lineup, and we said quality over quantity, but this year, $299, blueray, wifi, huge hd, and an ABUNDANCE of QUALITY exclusives, those that us hc players want to play ALL throughout the year, oh man... if they could just throw in another 4 to 5 hour GOW3 DLC side story or something for GOW3, with or near the Kratos exclusive appearance in MK, I'd have all my favorite franchises hitting in one year, giving leniency on gt5 and h3 because they released this year...same with cod. But i LOVE motorstorm 2 like its totally crack to me, i was CRAZY invested in socom confrontation, never mind socom 4 (OPS clan ftw) and k3... well, u just heard most of it if u read the article, i said this in another comment, but i bought the new kinnect ready system, ended up playing ssf4 and black ops over reach (although reach was excellent) just the lack of rewards didn't keep me in after i beat the single player 3 times... and i was like F it i traded in my 80 gig ps3, and brand new kinnect ready 360 (plus separately bought hd because i didn't want kinnect) for a ps3 slim... and until MS throws at least 2 games in my face Gears3 caliber or better teaching me a lesson... I'm very glad 99.9 percent of my gaming can be done on ONE console (and my sister-in-law just got a wii so i have some catching up to do with my old classics, and this years lineup ) I'm happy if Sony pulls a MS ff13 move *no pun intended* and SOMEHOW steals gears 3 by finding some lupoll(spelling) under EAs new relationship with epic, we could have gears 3 and Cryteks new action hack and slash lol... I'm NOT holding my breath tho trust me, that, if even possible would take A LOT of money and smart lawyers to pull off... GAME ON MoFos

Urmomlol4887d ago

I agree with the article to some extent. It is "PS3's fight to lose" because they easily have the most impressive software lineup. However, that said, I don't think it's going to be the cake walk that everyone thinks it'll be.

Microsoft will continue to gain ground with the Kinect and completely push Move out of the picture unless Sony starts making exclusive Move software. Face it --no one is going to buy a PlayStation Move so you can play Killzone 3 or SOCOM 4 with it. Hardcore gamers will want to use a traditional controller with it --not motion controls that don't relay the proper amount of precision and accuracy. Move will flop unless Sony gets their butts in gear.

N3DS will be Nintendo's sugar momma for the next couple years, sell a billion copies and will take consumer dollars from Sony. They will hurt Sony's software sales one way or another, especially during the holidays.

Sony can pull off a winner, but you'd be stupid to think it'll be a one sided victory.

Mmmkay4887d ago

there is exclusive move software if you want that!
echocrome 2 just released..... lbp move etc.

face it. nobody is gonna buy kinect so they can play kinectimals or bathtub adventures with it.... see what I did there?

Baka-akaB4887d ago (Edited 4887d ago )

wanna know why you are quite off on at least one of your arguments ?

If "no one is going to buy a PlayStation Move so you can play Killzone 3 or SOCOM 4 with it." , or any future core game release ... then explain to us why only sports champion probably (and mostly because a bundled title for half the market) and so far cracked the 1.5 units mark ?

If it's whole market was only about casual games , then why are the move casuals title making such a small impact so far ?
And why a few older hardcore titles like MAG are actually seeing an increase in sales after so many months , and an influx of new or returning players .

Precisely because at least a part of the move ownership base isnt buying much , and wait for bigger games

AKA4887d ago

Actualy I got th move because I know I can play games like Socom and Killzone on it, I will play competitive online with my DS3 but will be nice to use the Move for the campaign and co op.

True is that Sony need to show more family friendly games on ads like eyepet and many more.

iliimaster4887d ago

lol what great software has kinnect made ? ur killin me smalls!

King-Leonidas4887d ago

lol wtf are you talking about? I bought move so i could play Killzone 3 and socom

jessupj4886d ago

Me too, using a joystick for FPS is just too slow and clumsy. I wanted a move purely because of KZ3. Really hope I can play against DS3 players online.

BrianG4887d ago

Okay, I bought Move for its "exclusive" software. You know they do make Move only games right? I got Sports Champions and The Fight Lights Out, and I plan on getting Sorcery when that releases.

I also got it to play KZ3 as well, and Socom 4, so its funny you mention those 2 games. Also I been playing the MAG Trial for PLUS members with Move, and it works good. So I don't know where your going with your argument.

It is washed out and dated now.

I think gears 3 now has colour hmm not much of a improvement LOL...

Karum4887d ago

In terms of games we know are being released in 2011, the PS3 is releasing more exclusive games that I personally am interested in.

I've no planned 360 purchases until Gears 3 is released.

Analyzing 'Uncharted: Drake’s Deception' – Wait, What is The Game About?

I cant even say what the point was its easily the worst story in the series. The online was a whole lot of fun though but overall doesn't come even close to 2

porkChop922d ago (Edited 922d ago )

It was a step back for sure. Personally, I thought even the MP was way better in U2. Solid game, glad I played it. I just think they didn't push as hard as they did with U2.

UNCHARTED2FANATIC918d ago

Yes both the online and story was better in 2 no doubt

Flewid638922d ago

The "young Drake" portion was pretty top notch, story-wise. But yeah, everything outside of that I felt was inferior.

DanielEndurance922d ago

Villains were all over the place in this… one second they wanted Drake dead, the next they needed him, then they want him dead again, then they coulda killed him, but poisoned his friend instead, then coulda shot him again, but had brunch with him, then needed him alive, then coulda mowed him down, but decided to kill him by fire and let him escape… Uncharted 2 was way better. 😅😅

slowgamer922d ago

=D Sounds crazy. I don't remember any of that. Played it on ps3 and I remember thinking that why was this game so bashed compared to second one. I liked it.

Chocoburger922d ago (Edited 922d ago )

Another thing that annoyed me about UC3 events was the agent Talbot teleporting around Turkey. It just felt off to me, and made no sense.

Also, for about one third of the game, you go on a wild goose chase to rescue Sully, who wasn't even there to be rescued, and you end up back where you started again. There was simply no pay off for all the events you go through, so it fell flat in that regard as if they couldn't figure out how to make the game longer, so they decided to side-track you to do something with no pay off, hoping you wouldn't notice due to all the incredible action set pieces they made.

Overall though, even with its flaws, I still enjoy the game.

TheEnigma313922d ago

This was actually my least favorite in the series. Didn't have that same impact that part 2 set.

Flewid638922d ago

Uncharted 2 is the pinnacle of the series (to me).

Granted, 4 had the best story in my opinion, but 2 was the overall best game.

When arguably the weakest game in the series is still awesome and more fun than most games today, you know you're onto a winner!

coolbeans923d ago

I'd extend "arguably" before awesome too. Many technically demanding scenes were jaw-dropping for the time, but it's tough to ignore the sub-par context propelling the action forward.

SullysCigar923d ago

Tough for you, perhaps, and that's fine. I enjoyed it very much. Perhaps a little less than the others in the series, but then the bar is extremely high.

I remember being blown away by the water and sand tech in U3 for the time too. It certainly was a visual treat!

LucasRuinedChildhood923d ago (Edited 923d ago )

It is very good, but when I originally played Uncharted 3 it was the most disappointed I'd ever been in a video-game because Uncharted 2 was just that good. I enjoyed 3 much more when I replayed it in the Nathan Drake Collection though. I could just enjoy it for what it is and accept that it's not Uncharted 2 - it's not a roller coaster, and it doesn't balance and rotate between action, puzzles, platforming and set-pieces in the same way.

Uncharted 3's gameplay is a bit more compartmentalized and focused on one thing at a time. I'm not surprised the scrapped version of Uncharted 4 was going to have no gunplay for the first half. It's also paced much differently - it takes a long time to get to the notable set-pieces. Uncharted 2 is insane from Nepal onwards which is about an hour into the game. haha.

I did like the introduction of chase sequences, and I love first hour (bar fight, young Drake) and from the airplane sequence onwards but I just think the rest of it just sort of meanders along without as much purpose as 2.

When it comes to the script, you can feel the absence of Neil Druckmann and Josh Scherr (writer on every other console Uncharted game). Drake gets hit in the face, and the game goes on a random side plot for an hour to give you some boat set-pieces. He then washes up on a beach close to where Elena is staying to get you back to the real plot. Drake just says "How convenient" to try make you laugh off how sloppy the plot got.

In retrospect, I'm not sure if Naughty Dog were ready to work on 2 different games at once. 3 clearly had production issues that 1 and 2 didn't have, and Hennig's version of 4 didn't work out. They had to crunch so hard to get the rebooted version done on time that Bruce Straley gave up making video-games.

coolbeans923d ago

I'll give you some props for the extra analysis. I remember Druckmann climbing his way to a writer spot in UC2, but wasn't aware of Josh Scherr. I didn't know that was the reason for Straley's departure either. That's pretty damn rough.

GhostofHorizon923d ago

They had to make some weird choices as far as story went because the actor for Cutter had to bail which left a few holes in the story.

Uncharted is one of my favourite series and while the leap from 2 to 3 was not nearly as big as the leap from 1 to 2, I think it was an amazing experience none the less.

coolbeans923d ago

Graham McTavish's departure wasn't easy, but I don't think that would fix many holes tbh. Because the main issue to consider is the precarious mindset Naughty Dog was operating on: an increased emphasis in set pieces that HAD to go in and worrying about the context later.

Petebloodyonion923d ago

I really liked part 3 ( Among Thieves is still the best in my opinion) My only complaint was the interactions with the villains and how they were a missed opportunity, Linda MacMahon (Marlowe) was an interesting antagonist due to the history with Sully and Nate but it fails basically flat especially with her ending. And I couldn't care about Navaro 2.0.

What I did love and made me care was Cutter, in the short time he was in the game you could feel that the guy was a good treasure hunter for example when he pulled his own notebook with the clues he founds so the team can escape a room.
It was a small touch that add a lot to the character.

Good-Smurf923d ago

Marlowe was played by Rosalind Ayres.

MadLad923d ago (Edited 923d ago )

I have mixed feelings on the series. I still own all of them on the PS3, and the collection for PS4, but I didn't truly "love" any of the games until 4.

They're good games, but they always stumble on some element.
The first is good, but the climbing mechanics weren't exactly fine tuned with the first showing. Not to mention the spongey enemies if you played on anything past normal; but you're then faced with a fairly unchallenging game experience.
The second mostly fixed the climbing, but added in a pretty clumsy stealth mechanic.
Three was just two with a new story.

Four got it right though.
I don't remember once getting annoyed by any mechanic had in the game.

I know that everyone has a soft spot for 2, and 3 is sort of the black sheep of the series; but they did, overall, get progressively better. Which doesn't always happen.

UC 2, 4, 3 and 1. Great read and article

ABizzel11021d ago

No Golden Abyss -_-, otherwise I agree with the order.

UC2: Best overall
UC4: Best graphics, best gameplay, best locations, best environements
UC3: Best set pieces IMO (the boat and desert fights will always be amazing)
UC1: A rough Draft of what was to come
UCGA: Basically UC1 on Vita

Levii_921022d ago (Edited 1022d ago )

Great list and great article nicely writen and explained. Although for me personaly i would put Drakes Fortune above Drake’s Deception and Uncharted 4 is absolutely my favourite of the franchise and number 1 for me.

Inverno1021d ago

U2 is the only game playable on crushing without causing a great amount of frustration. Not to mention just how much influence it had that they redid some of U2s set pieces like the caravan twice, and armored truck chase in U4.

DFresh1021d ago (Edited 1021d ago )

I'd rate it as the following.

1.) Uncharted 2
(Close to perfection of any game I've played in years. Single Player/Multiplayer/Co Op all amazing.)

2.) Uncharted 3
(On par with UC2 multiplayer/co op wise minus the kickbacks [aka killstreaks]. I really liked the Lawrence of Arabia story.)

3.) Uncharted 4
(Single player is amazing. Multiplayer was meh. Co Op had potential. Absolutely hated the health revive system it slowed down the game way too much. Always preferred the fast pace action of UC2/UC3. Made it way more fun that way. Recoil was too ridiculous that most people in lobbies would only do hip firing, using power weapons and using that OP grappling hook to melee people after dropping them. Nobody wanted to revive anyone.)

4.) Uncharted
(It's the first in the series so it's hard to judge. Though I loved the story.)

NecrumOddBoy1021d ago

I agree here but it’s also a series you can play from front to back and truly enjoy. Story-wise, they are all great and flow so well. I wish they threw both Golden Abyss and Lost Legacy on this list. Lost Legacy is the best mechanically in my opinion. You can see it’s stepping stone framework for TLOUS2.

Michiel19891021d ago

uncharted 2 is one of the few games that actually surpassed its pre-release hype.

medman1021d ago (Edited 1021d ago )

I am a single player gamer...I barely ever touch a multiplayer component. The only exceptions over the years have been the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer, TLOU factions, and the Uncharted 2 multiplayer. The Uncharted 2 multiplayer saw me spend more time playing it than all my other multiplayer experiences over the years combined. That game really was a masterpiece all around.

brando0081021d ago

I agree completely, those are all stellar MP experiences, coming from another SP gamer who only occasionally gives MP some time.

Gardenia1021d ago

Come to think of it, the step between Uncharted 1 and Uncharted 2 is huge. It goes from the weakest in the series to one of the best games ever made.
I think I'm going to play all of them again soon.
