Heavy Rain was going to be huge. Hyped by years of teaser trailers and credulous preview articles, the game was pitched as a revolutionary vision before it was even released.
Given that build-up, it took a brass pair for David Cage to begin his game this way: A dude wakes up, brushes his teeth, maybe takes a couple slugs of orange juice, and waits for his kids to come home.
Talk about adjusting players' expectations. The prosaic scenes of suburban family life are a pointed opening statement of Heavy Rain's aims. It isn't about revolutionising the form or maximising technical capabilities (Sony's delusional "Only possible on PlayStation!!!!" bluster notwithstanding). It's about asking players to connect with ordinary characters in a lasting way.
"AI is not a substitute for human creativity. We position it as a technology that supports creativity. Creativity resides in people. We will continue to contribute to people's creativity through technology," the CEO said.
...not yet but 100% within the next 10 years!
..Then Sony will use it like the drop of a hat. They're no different to the others.
People that aren't software developers just don't understand the benefits of AI. People who's only exposure to A.I is the Terminator movie and other related sci fi films won't understand the benefits it provides.
It's not about replacing human labor. It's about making human labor easier.
Many years ago, I had laser eye surgery done. It was performed by a robot. The doctor took my measurements and calibrated the machine to make sure it would do what needed be done. And then the robot corrected my vision in 10 seconds.
15 years later and I still have 20/20 vision.
A new patent recently published by Sony wants to gather biometric data of gamers to track whether one is being harassed using AI tools.
I hope this is one of those patents that never comes to fruition.
I already dislike the fact you can pay a significant amount for a online service buy associated games and content on said service and get banned from that service over potentially a misunderstanding the bans are already handed out for flimsy reasons
I'd rather see money invested in a ban that simply removes the offensive players ability to communicate with unknown players allow them to continue party chats with friends but not with Joe blow on cod.
Take my social security and bank account numbers too! Here’s a picture of my wife and our address.
At this rate I feel Sony will eventually sell a room to play games in it where they can monitor your every breath
I want them to censor erotic content by measuring my groin temperature so i dont get too distracted while playing black ops 2.
Terrible idea. Not only do I not consent to providing my biometric data, the potential for mishandling biometric data is almost a certainty. Positive stress and negative stress can produce similar changes in biometrics. Interpreting the precise emotion a person is feeling is not only invasive but could be easily misconstrued. I hope this never comes to fruition.
Sony has recently published a new patent that wants to dynamically handle the games' difficulty and gameplay based on the player's emotions.
This is something I might use. Sometimes I play some good games but they don’t have difficulty option and are a little too easy.
cool idea
cool idea for horror games especially
the way it's explained here sounds like it could never be forced hopefully, so that's ok with me
hell yeah!
HEAVY RAIN FTW!!!
I'm not a huge gamer, not at all really, but I remember when I first heard about this one -- I remember hearing how it controlled like you'd control a car in a game. Walking with the shoulder buttons and simply directing them with your analog stick.
I said, that sounds stupid and cumbersome. I was wrong upon playing it and fell in love with the layout. I thought, man they should make a Resident Evil like this or a Silent Hill.
Then -- Then they added the PSmove support and it ruined the game. Controlling your guy with the analog stick, like you have done for years and years in other games, just sucks. I've yet to play back through it with move because the controls are so horrible with it. The motion aspects are neat, but the analog walk just sucks.
Anyways, as a non gamer, this was one of the games that peaked my interest this year. It is games like this, like Uncharted 1 and like The Last Guardian will be that make me keep my eye on the industry.
I missed a Category on the VGA´s for Most Innovative Game , that has won Heavy Rain this Year .. this Game is so awesome, one of the Best this Year
Heavy Rain is my GOTY I think. I'm definatly considering buying Move with some Christmas cash just so I can replay it with a twist.
this is more than game, its a emotional experience to rember, I hope quantic dreams will be another game for the PS3 on the same genre, games like these are a rare gem this gen
