After losing relevance for a little over a decade, Ubisoft is proving that they either have an appetite for risk or simply have run out of ideas for video games by continuing to push Battle Tag out the door.
Back at E3, Ubisoft announced something no one was expecting. A new game. No not a video game, but an actual game. Ubisoft’s BattleTag is a modern day take on the classic Laser Tag where opponents run around and try and shoot each other with light beams. Vests with sensors detect when players are hit and notify players when the game has been won. But Ubisoft has taken the game to a new level. Computer software now tracks frags, matches and players need to find hidden ammo and health caches to stay alive. Ubisoft sent The Review Crew one of the first retail units. Here’s a look at what’s inside.
Okay, it's definitely not a video game. However, Ubisoft's Battle Tag is a lot of fun. Basically, it's Ubisoft's game-inspired take on laser tag. Like in laser tag, you'll have to suit up. And yes, you'll have to aim for your opponents' vests. However, there's a good deal of customization you can take advantage of. The Battle Tag software makes it easy to register the guns and various "power-ups." (The software is currently PC-only, with the possibility of consoles and mobile later down the line.)

I remember seeing them announcing this and thinking "What the fuck?". This will be the greatest gaming flop ever.
