It's using the Mass Effect 3 engine so all improvements made to their engine since ME2, have been applied to the PS3 version. Plus PS3 optimization = a significantly better version.

They look identical except for the gamma curve. IGN is just as bad with this as Lens of Truth.
If they had properly matched the gamma on these shots both versions would look like twins.

Digital Foundry remains the only reliable source for comparisons because they actually know what they're doing.

PC wins textures, PC wins resolution, PC wins framerate, PC wins filters. Basic wins for pretty much every PC version of a game anyways. Technically while the base engine is now aging thats why it gets constant updates that made it noticeably better than the first on 360 and even more so on PC.

As has been pointed out ME3 will still be based on a modified UE3 engine. Just claiming that this version runs on ME3's update doesnt actually make it automatically better than other versions.

Cryengine 3 will run Crysis 2 on console. If that causes the console versions to look better than the three year old original Crysis using Cryengine 2 on Pc i'll eat my graphics card.

PS3 is running on ME3 engine. Don't you think the 360 version of ME3 will be running on the same engine too? Obviously they developed the ME3 engine for the 360/PC/PS3 versions of ME3,and then ported ME2 PS3 version onto it. So we don't know which one is the lead console for ME3 yet.

I guess alot of people on this site assume its a new engine. Its not its still UE3 engine with patches and current support from Epic. UE3 has always had PS3 support its a multiplat engine. I guess no one remembers when people found lines of code for the PS3 in the PC version install files thats because it was always coming to PS3...EA would never leaves that$ on the table.

That interative comic also was not made for PS3 it was just included to give backstory. Fanboys need to stop acting like ME2 is a gift from god when just 12 months ago they were bashing it for being on Xbox and PC.

I find nothing wrong with it. I think more developers should take full use of each console and not water down say the PS3 version just because the 360 version has hit it's limits. Has to not watering down the PC version because the PS3 version has it's limits.

The lighting is better in PS3. Notice in 00:04 the missing shadow of Jacob's gun on the railing. Just like missing shadows in FF13 in the xbox version it seems.

Edit: I took another look, apparently in the PS3 version they added another lightsource which is absent from the xbox version. That lightsource is why Jacob's face looks more shiny and causing shadows on the railing.

The PS3 version looks closer to the PC version than the 360 does. Hopefully they improved the loading times on the PS3. I hated that on the 360 even when I had both discs installed on the hard drive, then when I jumped to the PC version everything was almost instant.

The PC version actually can look clearer with a tweak of the Coalesced.ini file to get rid of all the ridiculous Bloom and Depth Of Field. I always hated the blurded back ground when in a conversation.

You can't talk down to Bioware though, I think they're doing a good job with Mass Effect 2. At least they seem to want to get as close to PS3 exclusives as they can (although still very far off). Whereas most Multiplat Devs don't try at all and their limit seems to be what the Xbox360 can do.

Very unfortunate that some developers don't want to try to push the hardware they get presented with.

You dont have to be a fanboy to see the visual differences. And it wont be the same exeprience as the core Mass Effect 2 game on the 360. And the reason is because it contains all the additional downloadable content. The PS3 offers the best bang for the buck. Sure you can buy Mass Effect 2 on the 360 then download all the content. But its more convienient having it all on one disk

This is a poor comparison. The video of the XBOX 360 version appears soft due to the fact that the footage is interlaced (pause the video and you will see the frames are over-lapping). The footage of the PS3 version has been captured in a progressive format and has also been adjusted properly (brighter, sharper and better contrast). If they are going to compare the game on two competing systems they should do it on equal ground.

I have no doubt that the game will be optimized for the PS3 but this video comparison should not be the deteriminating factor.

To be honest I'm having a slightly hard time discerning between both versions. While I feel that the 360 version is a little darker, I can't get a good sense of the textures in it. Also, the PS3 version looks like it might have more contrast.
