InSane trilogy won’t be ready until 2018

Publisher says film director del Toro’s horror trilogy is an “epic project”.

Upcoming trilogy InSane will take between eight and ten years to develop, THQ has confirmed.

The horror game series is being overseen by Hellboy and Pan’s Labyrinth film director Guillermo del Toro. It was originally revealed at the 2010 Spike Video Game Awards.

THQ’s core games VP Danny Bilson’s latest comments suggest that the complete trilogy won’t be ready until 2018 at the earliest.

VersusEM4884d ago

it better be, I mean, 2013, but then again thats when Final Fantasy Versus XIII probably comes out

CombineElite4883d ago

I'm sooooo not excited for this trilogy because the last trilogy that got hyped up was ADVENT RISING and look how that turned out.

2018 Half Life 2 episode 3 may be out by then :)

I_find_it_funny4883d ago

2018 you gotta be kidding

game's status changed to: not interested

erathaol4883d ago

The title of the game says everything that needs to be said about this franchise.

himdeel4883d ago

You might as well be announcing games for 2343 while you're at it :|

kramun4883d ago (Edited 4883d ago )

The first game will be coming out in 2013, they're just saying that the entire trilogy won't be completed until 2018. That sounds reasonable really, 7 years from now. Look at the UC series, I don't know how long the first one took them to make but UC2 took 2 years to make and UC3 will be taking about the same amount of time. So if the first took the same amount of time that's a 6 year span from the start of the first game til the last.

ReservoirDog3164883d ago

I'm pretty sure this means the last game will be released 2018. Which sounds reasonable. About 2 years per game.

Maybe it's just because my favorite movie ever is Pan's Labyrinth but I'm really looking forward for this.

DORMIN4883d ago

lmao wut?

8 years from now?

PHOSADRA4883d ago

Then I don't care until 2017....

OhReginald4883d ago

anyone even remotely excited for this game? I am not. Pan's Labyrinth...was okay...nothing ground breaking...

I wouldn't be surprised if the game doesn't even show its face for another 5 years.....just like his hobbit movie...

FunAndGun4883d ago

I don't know, I think del Toro is very creative and definitely has a stylized vision. I am just not excited because it is still 2 years away.

If this game was realeasing in 2011, yes, I would be excited...but we also haven't seen what the game is yet, so that could change.

Christopher4883d ago

Pan's Labyrinth was a beautiful combination of the many metaphors for death, drawing in much of the symbology from norse, greek, and egyption mythology.

An allegory of allegories, as you will.

I can completely see how this would be overlooked and seen as just a strange trip towards death.

Seijoru4883d ago

What about The Devil's Backbone or Cronos?

visualb4883d ago

pans labyrinth wasn't "ok", it was really quite unique

it would have been "ok" if you expected a crazy super narnia like movie, but it actually dealt with the power of denial/imagination and how to deal with the harshness of reality and on top of that a battle between two sides and above that a love story...

so, saying it was "ok" is being sardonic

+ his hobbit movie has always been set to be released in 2012 because it will be 2 movies...one in 2012 and one in 2013.

so, stop trolling del toro, he's one of the best visionaries and directors in cinema today

if only we had more like him crap like tranformers 2 and twilight would actually be worth watching

Non_sequitur4883d ago

I've read he's no longer going to work on the Hobbit movies due to other projects.

DOMination4883d ago

Peter Jackson is directing the Hobbit movies

Johnny Jiron4883d ago (Edited 4883d ago )

you also gotta realize that Del Toro IS a gamer. And a passionate one at that.

2018? Not to be pessimistic but who cares then? I mean it's nice to know but if its still such along way off I'll focus my brain elsewhere.

AKA4883d ago

i guess it will look epic with great visual like he said, because it will be using the next gen tech.
i think insine is the first next gen game that got announced, so 2013 will be the date next gen start, mabe by the en of 2012 we will have the ps4.
not bad..

blodulv4883d ago

So it'll be on PS4 and the next Xbox then.

Outta sight outta mind.

Eight most promising looking games that were cancelled

In this article, we try to list eight cancelled games that looked the most promising. Before we start, if you haven’t already, be sure to read this list over cancelled games, too.

Phil322899d ago

Mega Man Legends 3 is the one cancelled game that sucked the most for me. Blaming it on the fans was a real jerkish move, too.

TGG_overlord2899d ago

Well, ain´t that the truth of the day...

Promising? Maybe they sounded good, but, for instance, Redwood Falls and Shadow Realms never saw the light of day because they weren't anything exceptional. The tragic ones are the ones like Star Wars 1313, which was cancelled because of Disney's buyout of Star Wars, or Insane, which was cancelled because THQ was going out of business. I can only guess that Agent, Eight Days, and Starcraft Ghosts never made it anywhere because they didn't live up to expectations. Maybe they weren't any good, maybe they were too ambitious, maybe the tech at the time couldn't support them . . . we simply don't know.

I was once excited for the Pirates of the Caribbean game, Armada of the Damned, but chances are it was cancelled because it wasn't living up to expectations, so there's really no point in being letdown by it.

9 Huge Games That Somehow Got Canceled

8CN: Games get canceled all the time, but rarely do we ever hear very much about them. Usually, they're canned well before the public is aware of their existence, with the studios quietly pushing the project under the rug (or recycling the work into new games entirely). These games however, failed pretty spectacularly.

Svinya3447d ago

Prey 2 sure looked interesting. The first one gave me motion sickness with the sudden inversions.

DragoonsScaleLegends3447d ago

The Legend of Dragoon 2 got canceled back in the PS1 era.

Adrian_v013447d ago

The first one's concept sounds amazing! I hope they, or someone gets back to it. The outlook should be different now with the new gen consoles...
