Video-game publisher Midway Games (MWY - Cramer's Take - Stockpickr) may have just sealed its fate.
Stranglehold, the company's biggest release of the year, debuted Wednesday to lackluster reviews, dashing any remaining investor hope that Midway might halt its descent into obscurity.
But with Stranglehold's stumble, the outlook for investors could turn bleak. Poor game sales could kill hopes that the company may turn the title into a franchise. Midway still has its long-running Mortal Kombat and Unreal Tournament franchise
GF365: "Here are our picks for the ten most underrated third-person shooters that you might not have played before or even known about."
Actually great list TBH I agree with all 10
I hope one day we get some remakes for the following
The saboteur(with a proper remake and quality of life features this game could be great)
Scarface world is yours
Binary domain ( such a great game with great story)
GUN(this needs a remake)
Space marine 40k(such fun time)
Would also like to suggest adding the mercenary series even the 2nd game which is disliked by many is a fun time
I recently finished Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine and found it to be very enjoyable.
The game respected the lore and the gameplay was quite decent.
The color palette was a bit underwhelming (backdrops and setting) and recycled but I think that it deserved better.
Here's hoping for an amazing sequel
GF365: "These are the best games based on movies. Every entry on this list will be a great video game adaptation of popular movies."
While some feel it was the Mortal Kombat: Annihilation movie, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is popularly touted as the lowest point for the franchise – at least in terms of video games. The prototype IP soup tried to do something new with popular characters going head to head, but never really got a good reception.
The biggest issue was that with the introduction of DC and Warner Bros, MK's iconic gore had to be dialed down. Batman, after all, cannot be split into two by Kung Lao's hat. However, while the game itself signaled the fatality of the Mortal Kombat franchise, its core formula is what resurrected it to become NetherRealm Studio and the reboot we've come to adore.
MK vs DC wasn’t awful. If reception for that game made mk9 possible then hopefully the failures of MK11 can make some good changes as well. It’s time to get rid of variations, they had a good run but ended up a mess.
I think MK 9 did.
In fact I remember being bummed that this was a T rated MK game and just dismissed it. MK 9 was when I actually stood back and said, "They're back!". Still think that game is fantastic.
"Stranglehold, the company's biggest release of the year" What!? What about Unreal Tournoment 3? UT3 is one of the biggest games of 2007.
Midway should put its all effort into making fewer but better games (Instead of making a crappy WW2 shooter and many other games as fast as it can).
Now, they should put all their money and effort into making of Mortal Kombat 8 and make MK the icon it was back in 1995.
UT3 will save Midway
Did Stranglehold really get horrible reviews? I thought it got 8's and 7's. That's bad these days?
Is a pretty decent game, I'd give it a solid 8.
I consider buying games when they get above 8. If Im into the genre, I buy it for sure.
