Can Windows Phone 7 Compete with PSP Phone?

Microsoft, never one to miss an opportunity for cross-branding, has cleverly integrated its Xbox Live social community into the mobile platform. You can't let play XBLA games on the device, but the mobile titles they do have are quite nice, and some of them tie-in with existing console franchises.

Does Sony, which plans to launch its own mobile phone gaming platform early next year, have anything to worry about?

"You can't let play XBLA games on the device"-?.

It should be the other way around, "Can PSP phone compete with WP7" because WP7 is the established phone and hardly anything is known about the PSP Phone.

As for the answer, were going to have to wait and see if the PSP Phone can bring it, I'm not holding my breath though.

Windows 7 is an established phone OS, where as the PSP phone will be an actual hardware device. If its ever announced.

Really, what's the point of this? Ones not out while they both have to compete with the iPhone and Android.

the Psp Phone will run on Android 2.3 or 3,0 , according to Rumors...next week we should hear some official announcements regarding the psp phone

winmobile market share is only 14% and shrinking all the time.

winmobile 7 is the only one that can play xbox arcade games on it nothing else so really your only looking at 0.00* of an percent on there.

gamingdroid4894d ago

That article is biased with nothing, but speculation to go on. If anything, Windows Phone is selling decent nothing close to Android or iPhone though, but respectable for a new platform. What did Android do on it's first attempt? Remember how everyone laughed at it? Now see where they are now?

If you actually go by article, one from Darkpixel actually shows figures from surveys done by a respected marketing research company:

http://www.androidcentral.c...

Who are you going to believe? The PC World that quotes a few people and gives you speculation or the survey done by the respected marketing research company?

With that said, I told a family members about getting Windows Phone 7 and their response was that it crashes all the time. The issue, he was confused about Windows MOBILE as opposed to Windows PHONE. In fact, he was using Windows Mobile for work related stuff.

This is coming from a guy that makes $160k+ doing project management for software!

The hurdles Windows Phone 7 have is big and many so I expect sales to be slow, but MS is known not to give up so we will see.

wanted to buy a windows 7 phone last month but my provider (t-mobile nl) doesn't have the phone in stock yet, they didn't even know when they would have it in stock, my contract is running out this month.
The psp phone is running on android supported by sony Ericsson in comparison the windows phone well is running on windows 7 and is supported by multiple manufacturers. The psp phone is one of those things that make me ask why even bother after seeing the n-gage failure.
Not too mention the problem with phones is that most customers are bound too their contract for 1-2 years. Which is one of the reason that every year new mobiles are being released.

FINALLY, the first comment of an article is intelligent and obviously the truth. I thank you...

Agree with Smok3xffx, it really should be the other way around. WP7 already has a $400m marketing budget to get it out in front of people and at least a six month head start on the PSP phone. Also, the WP7 is a more marketable item when it comes to smartphones considering its purposes match that of people who tend to buy smartphones rather than just gamers.

Overall, I think both will find it extremely hard to get into a market already dominated by blackberry (declining), android (rising due to wide number of devices), and iPhone (a stable leader from AT&T and would take off even more if not chained to the single provider).

Personally, I see no point in another PSP, phone or otherwise, if it's not tied into the PSN alongside the PS3 with regards to features (communication, video, photo, trophies/games/etc.).

saoco4894d ago

well we know it's going to run on the android os

SMOK3xFFx4894d ago

You forgot the format war too, Blu ray vs HD-DVD.

Stealth20k4894d ago

sony is still competing with nintendo for real gaming portables with the psp 2

Dark_Energy4894d ago

Well there's only one way to find out...FIGHT!!!!!!

Harry Hill FTW

k-dillinger4894d ago

@zootang

wow yea i think its time for them to exit that market just as more evidence shows they might end up leaving the console market as well shareholders not too keen on the Xbox brand and might make them exit by force but Microsoft is just crumbling empire I think the best thing for them to do is to just stick to what they know best...

Genecalypse4894d ago

the PSPhone would have Android 3.0 something much more common than the WP7 OS, and ontop of that its actual hardware as well instead of software running on random phones

"Oh yeah! I'm so going to get that!

I don't know if the blind hate is directed towards Microsoft or Angry Birds, but you DO realize that it's going to get millions of downloads, right?

Not saying I'm a fan, just saying that because we don't like something doesn't mean it's going to fail.

a_bro4010d ago

i think he's directing that hate towards the game itself, not microsoft.

it has to do with the game's casual focus, and how investors are stating that games like these are the future, even though they suck.
