Edge: Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Review

Hot Pursuit is a gorgeously crafted game, but more than that, it’s a slick package held together by the quite brilliant innovation of Autolog. In returning to Need For Speed’s first principles, Criterion has found its lifeblood, and set it pumping around a structure that will last far beyond Christmas. This is World’s Wildest Police Chases meets The Fast And The Furious – and choosing a side is irresistible.

Awesome Game, Racer of the year.

Mmmkay4937d ago

why can you drive sideways at 300 mph in every turn..?

Stately Gentleman4936d ago

Because it's an arcade racer you dumb shit

JokesOnYou4936d ago

I'm not a huge racing fan, seriously I only buy 1 racing game every couple of years, tinker around a bit, customize a few cars and play here and there until the next sequel launches but anyway this does sound like a really good game judging by all the reviews I've seen.

Thats good news for those who love racing games because with this game and GT5 out recently no matter which type you prefer theres a really good game to satisfy your racing fix, if you love both types of racers, even better for you get 'em both.

*arcade racer of the year. Not racer of the year by a long shot

SiteNblog Defender4937d ago (Edited 4937d ago )

Gran Turismo 5 would be lucky to get a 9 from Edge.

Only a few sites will give GT5 racer of the year. Need for Speed will win the majority of them.

All fanboyism aside, this game is awesome.

@Allowen- This won't appeal to the driving sim fans, but if ur a casual driving fan, you really can't go wrong with this game. Haven't had this much fun with a driving game since Burnout 3; Takedown

Allowen4937d ago

This game is too much "arcade "for my taste.

Quagmire4936d ago (Edited 4936d ago )

GT5 is too "real" for my taste.

see, trolling works both ways, like a bisexual, giggity.

cheetorb4936d ago

Is this game compatible with Logitech wheels?

iamgoatman4936d ago

I hear that it doesn't currently support Logitech wheels, but Criterion is working on adding support in a patch.

But it would be a idea to run a few google searches just to make sure they are.

poopoojames4936d ago

I'm kind of disappointed GT is getting outdone by ye old Need for Speed but hey, casual is where it's at these days. GT5 is staring a 7/10 in the face from Edge.

GT5 outdoes NFS in every way unless you don't care for simulators. In terms of graphics, physics, sound, online, community and content GT5 is the clear winner. Even if you dislike simulation games it's easy to see that GT5 is by far king in these regards. Haters gonna hate however.

EDIT: @ below
Nice wall of text and all... but did you miss the part where I said "unless you don't care for simulators" ?
Sure GRID and NFS are great games for casual gamers not interested in hardcore, in depth racing simulators, however they can't hold a candle to GT5 in simulation. Personally GT5 is fun, it has more content and space to do what you want than any other racing game.

Yi-Long4936d ago (Edited 4936d ago )

What about FUN!? These are videoGAMES. That means they also have to be fun.

Maybe GT5 is great for the people out there who are mostly interested in collecting lots of different cars, but most gamers would rather have fewer cars if it meant that there were more fun, gorgeous, challenging tracks to race on.

GT5 might be the perfect game for the car-enthusiasts, but some gamers don't care that much about the cars, but just care about having a great time racing.

That said, I can't believe NFS has pulled it's ass out of the gutter from all those years of mediocre games, and is now scoring very high scores.

I've never been a NFS-fan, but I might give this game a chance when it's in the bargain-bin and I'm done with GRID (which I'm playing and enjoying at the moment: awesome game! )

I picked up GT 5 today and after about 2 1/2 hrs of playing I went back to playing hot pursuit.I just can't get enough of this game.

Looking Back to Two of Need for Speed's Best Games - Most Wanted and Hot Pursuit

Paul writes - "EA know a good thing when they see it, and for multiple years November was Need for Speed month. In a break from the usual routine, I'm going to be looking back at two games here, released in 2005 and 2010 respectively. The earlier game is Need for Speed: Most Wanted, which has the distinction of being one of the very best in the franchise. The second game comes from 2010, and is Need for Speed Hot Pursuit; which I'll talk about just as the Remastered version of the game has hit the stores."

Hotpursuit 2 was good as well.

The-Matrix-has-you188d ago (Edited 188d ago )

I completely adore this game! In fact its probably my favorite racing game. I recently dusted off my xbox 360 to play Most Wanted 2005. Still a great game, though I do not remember there being such horrible performance. Like massive frame-pacing issues. screen tearing, latency. If any game ever truly needed to be remastered, it this one for sure!

Uuuu, I loved this one. I want it.

LucasRuinedChildhood1341d ago

No NFS released since Hot Pursuit (2010) has came close. The Ghost Games NFS games were just dreadful (to me they were anyway, 2015 was okay I suppose). Would love to replay this and I hope it has an update for next-gen as well.

DarkZane1341d ago (Edited 1341d ago )

I loved Most Wanted as well (on PS3, I think it released in 2012). After that, it has gone downhill, but the latest games are slowly coming back up. I loved NFS Heat, but it needs to get better before it comes back to same level as NFS Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted.

Then again, NFS Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted were likely better because they were from Criterion (in fact, those were the last 2 games from criterion in nfs series).

LucasRuinedChildhood1341d ago

@DarkZane
complete agree. Most Wanted was good fun as well.

boing11340d ago

Yeah, Criterion has made two best NFS games in my opinion.

georeo1341d ago

Oh yes! They cops vs the drivers online was a blast.

LucasRuinedChildhood1341d ago

Better be 60FPS unlike the original console ports.

Sgt_Slaughter1340d ago

I would be excited but NFS is basically dead in the water at this point, a shell of its former self.
