StrengthGamer: The Sly Collection Review Reinventing a Classic Franchise

This review isn't going to be on the games themselves. If you haven't already read or seen a review of a game made almost ten years ago, then you probably don't care about this game to begin with. Instead, I'm going to review how well the HD remake truly is. This can be described in one word - incredible.

Just got 100 percent + Plat for Sly 2. Got my Plat for Sly 1 a few days ago. Looks wonderful running in HD. Controls feel spot on with locked 60fps framerate.

Incredible value for 40 bucks for 3 incredible classics + Move minigames.

I’m about a 3rd of the way through Among Thieves, and I’m loving these games all over again. I never bought any of the originals (just rented) but now I’m glad I made that decision. It’s a great value, and I can’t wait for the fourth.

MeatPopsicle4904d ago

Awesome.

So glad so many people who missed these games are getting to experience them. I came to them very late to after thinking they were just another generic animal mascot series.

Really looking forward to a Sly 4.

silkrevolver4904d ago

...I’ve already played them, but even so these still feel really fresh. I think I may actually like this series more than Ratchet or Jak...

I'm about a 3rd of the way through Sly 3 as well. I own all 3 Sly games on PS2 and I've played them each multiple times so it was a no brainer that this collection was a must buy. I've been asking for this game ever since the GOW collection was announced. People who have never played these games really need to buy this game. Theres around 50 hours of fun gameplay and you will want to play them again and again.

Wether you like trophies or not, you will enjoy these games. Wether you want trophies or not you will get them by the boatload. If you love trophies like I do you will jizz you freaking balls off.

You will have nostalgia for these game in a couple of years. Take my word for it and I garantee you won't regret it. I would write a review for The Sly Collection but you guys would be too overwelmed with my love for the series. I would give it a 10.

The only thing I can really say negative about the game is some of the Trophies are a little to easy and don't add to the replay value much since you get most of them just by playing through the game.

Like the fact that there are no Trophies for the expert runs in the first game. They are crazy hard to do but it felt a bit cheap to Plat the game without having finished any of those.

Edit:

lol, the xbox fanboys are spamming the neg bubbles today. Lost one in the past hour.

silkrevolver, cool. Sorry to imply you hadn't played the games before. Great to hear both new and old fans of the series are having such a blast with this awesome franchise.

Reminds me of when platformers were good

TheLastGuardian4904d ago

It's not that platformers aren't good anymore, it's just that there aren't enough of them. I hope Sucker punch has 2 dev teams like Insomniac so we can get a new Sly and a new inFAMOUS every other year.

silkrevolver4904d ago

...There’s still Mario and Ratchet games... not to mention the eventual Sly 4.. (=

This is definitely a must buy!!!

Maybe it's time for me to discover that franchise? :)

Borderlands is great on my vita, the cart is well and truly glued in there. Super Meat Boy, Terraria, Binding of Issac and Guacameelee are highly recommended

The best hidden video game homages to Star Wars

Star Wars mania doesn't just mean fans get a bit stirred up when a new Star Wars Battlefront game comes out, or start to twitch involuntarily as Star Wars: The Force Awakens draws closer. Star Wars surrounds us and penetrates us, binding the galaxy together, and bleeding into a wide swath of entertainment as people truly moved by the series pay homage to it in their own work.

With the vast worlds afforded to video game developers, it's no surprise you can find a galaxy's worth of references tucked into the corners of your favorite games where you'd normally never look. And though all those "I am your father" jokes are pretty good (with "It's a trap," and "I have a bad feeling about this" close behind), the references here are more impressive that we could have possibly imagined.
