IGN: Crazy Taxi Review

I bought this hoping to relive some glory of the DC days, and I'm sorry I did. I hated the CAST because of it's insidiously bad controller and thought the DS3 would make it better. It didn't. This game is horrible. The physics. The music. The graphics. The lack of proper goal. It's just a mess. The more and more these Dreamcast games get released the more I realize just why Sega is where they are now.

Just take these last past 3 months.
- Lazy port of Sonic Adventure 1.
- Ok-ish Sonic 4, yet gameplay wasn't as great as before, it was too short, and it was too expensive.

Ow, and then there was that fan-remix by a couple of amateurs which blew Sonic 4 completely away graphically and DID have the great gameplay we all love.

- And now Crazy Taxi, which is a lazy HD-upgrade, without the music and the brand-names.

That's just the last couple of months.

Sonic Colours is supposedly very good though, so maybe there's still hope Sega will one day get it's act together....

...but it's just such a shame that a company that used to be so great at creating fantastic games, has sunken so low and made so many dumb-ass decisions.

I don't know who's responsible for all the FAIL over at Sega, but they need to get their asses fired, and put someone in charge who knows about games, and about what the gamers actually want!

Crazy Taxi doesn't have the music?? I don't think I could play it without hearing the Offspring while driving, it just wouldn't be the same

Seriously, is it REALLY that much effort to at least make the fix the game controls to fit with the modern ones as well as featuring a decent widescreen? The DC emulator does a better job at that one AND IT'S FREE!

Crazy Taxi 3D? They've all been 3D.

They've come out with a PSP game a while ago but I think that was more of a compilation of the three games than anything new.

Agree. I'm sure that if Sega will release Shenmue on arcade it will be one more crappy port with "HD" graphics. Yes, you better find somewhere a dreamcast to play it, along with Crazy Taxi and other great games.

Beloved games from one era and system just cannot be replicated on another system. This is why I don't bother with emulators and what have you. They might be better looking or run faster or whatever, but they just don't have the nostalgic feel. They don't really ever play the same.

I never liked the Dreamcast. In fact, I sold mine about 8 months into owning it. It just wasn't ever good to me. The more I play old games ported to Ps3 the more I wish they'd refocus their attention elsewhere. On new IP and software, maybe.

I still own my Dreamcast and all of my original games including Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi. It's a shame that these ports are faring so poorly but at least in this case Sega really dropped the ball. Charing $10 for a half-arsed port that lacks the original soundtrack and simply upscaling to 720p aren't going to cut it no matter how good the original material was.

I'd love to play an old classic with improved controls, better graphics and trophies. But looks like I'll stick with my DC copy instead.

i remember when i first heard about sega bringing dreamcast games to psn/xbl, i was beyond excited. the thought of sonic and crazy taxi in widescreen hd was awesome. sadly though both titles have been a disappointment. i still own and play my dreamcast on a regular basis and it looks like the original titles are still better. im still hoping to see something like power stone or power stone 2 with updated graphics and actual online multiplayer. thats probably a bit of a stretch though.

I bought the PSN version but haven't played it yet. I hope it supports custom soundtracks because I know the 360 version does. I don't mind the buildings but the music has got to be like the original for the optimum nostalgia factor.

I guess I could always pull out the original and play it on my Dreamcast.

A prime example of me wearing 'rose tinted spectacles' for this one, I'm afraid. I loved CRAZY TAXI on the Dreamcast back in the day so thought I'd slip into the PSN version with ease.
I found it all underwhelming and rather tedious.... Guess the memory DOES cheat, or I've been really spoiled when it comes to games lately.
