Windows Phone 7 – The Handheld Xbox

A lot of fuss has been made about the possibility of a handheld videogames console from Microsoft, but in reality it’s already here. Though it may be understated in comparison to the Nintendo DS or the current PlayStation Portable (PSP) hardware, Windows Phone 7 is undoubtedly Microsoft’s first real steps into the handheld gaming market. Indeed, if rumours are to be believed, Sony could well be taking a leaf out of Microsoft’s book and pursuing the handheld market with their next system not as a direct competitor to the forthcoming Nintendo 3DS, but instead as an answer to the growing success of Apple’s iPhone.

If the new PSP is an android phone it will PWN the windows phone!

I have an HTV EVO 4G right now and it is awesome. The only thing it lacks is some real gaming support and PSP would fill that void for damn sure.

Stealth20k4908d ago

theres a psphone which has graphics not much better or worse than the original psp

and then theres the real handheld the psp 2 compeating with the 3ds

Stealth20k4908d ago

Whose disagreeing?

thats the truth

the psphone and psp 2 are completely seperate devices. Weve alrady seen the pictures

I don't see how your statment correlates with the article, lol.

KotC4908d ago

Agree off topic what does this have to do with PSP? It's ok though mods wont touch your comment because you said PSP. So you might aswell start talking about socks and toothpaste as long as you say Sony in it your comment wll be fine.

etownone4908d ago

Yeah ... my friend has it.

Wish it would come to Verizon

Wikkid6664908d ago

I hear ya... I had to switch to "The Darkside" but I'm loving the phone.

There is one coming out early next year for Verizon and Sprint.

8thnightvolley4908d ago

loving my HTC HD7 ... huge screen.. :D..

MorganX4908d ago

The Samsung Focus rocks as well. MS does need to get some more apps out though. The essentials are there, but no Navigon GPS Navigation, and almost no Fitness apps. They are coming though. But WP7 won't reach its potential until marketplace fills up.

I'm worried because a lot of shovelware is turning up on the store.

XBL on WP7 is great. Just need more games.

kevco334908d ago

Loving the Windows Phone 7? Us too! There's some pretty tidy games already available - http://www.electronictheatr...

Windows phone 7 doesn't have Copy/Paste or SD card right?

gamingdroid4908d ago (Edited 4908d ago )

The short answer, is it has both.

The long answer, is Copy/Paste comes early next year officially announced by MS.

SD card is available, but not all cards are compatible. In fact the speed rating isn't enough to tell if it is compatible as Windows Phone 7. It has something to do with random read/write speeds and you will notice the issues.

MS/AT&T has been announced that some certified SD cards will come to the market later.

You can check other forums for a list of compatible cards.

You're about as subtle as a nuclear bomb. Don't be such a troll.

I picked up the Samsung Focus Windows phone last week. Everyone that I've shown it too was envious (including iphone owners). It's a great platform and will only get better in revisions.

For the record I think that the iphone and Android phones are great.

>>For the record I think that the iphone and Android phones are great. <<

Me too. I have a Captivate Android and iPhone 4 collecting dust now. They were great, though, I left iPhone for Android and had to go back, Droid doesn't interface enough or well enough with desktop stuff for me, but with WP7, I'm not going back to either. I'm amazed and the performance and responsiveness. I just didn't expect that.

Edit: Android will need dual core processor phones to keep up ;>

MorganX4908d ago

Actually, core apps do multitask. Third parties, not yet. I have not noticed any negative to this at the moment. Of course, my GPS fitness app isn't on it yet, and that's where I'd see it. I'd just have to lock the screen just like I did on iPhone all these years until iOS 4.

WP7, on the Focus, is so much faster and more responsive than Android and iOS4, this just hasn't been an issue at all, yet.

Highlife4905d ago

Going to get a new phone soon and I don't know what to get Andriod or WP7. Want to pick the right one cause i usaully keep my phone for at least 2-3 years. I have had my omnia I for 3 years

MorganX4908d ago

Copy/Paste Jan/Feb 11. SD Cards, yes Focus does. It's up to the manufacturer. MS doesn't want them. ONly thing is you can't use a cheap one, Class 4 or higher. And it becomes a part of system memory, you add it once.

Like the iPhone, which has no SD at all, you have to pay a fortune.

WP7's bluetooth works great, including AVCRP which took iPhone 4 years to get. And syncs beautifully with Windows, unlike Droid which syncs easily with nothing.

Zune also rocks over iTunes. I'm loving Zune software mang.

You forgot to add "thank God" at the end of the headline.

tomr29922514d ago

Indeed... Praise the Lord!

V0MIT_M0NSTER2514d ago

So glad that they won't mess with Banjo anymore.

-Foxtrot2513d ago

So you wouldn't want a proper Banjo-Threeie, Jade Empire or Kameo 2...really?

AZRoboto2513d ago

Or Crimson Skies. That was the shiz

FallenAngel19842514d ago

It's a shame we can't get another Banjo-Kazooie game

-Foxtrot2513d ago

Literally one that's called Banjo-Threeie and they start the game with Kazooie waking up in distress telling Banjo of a hardly nightmare while recapping Nuts and Bolts.

PhoenixUp2514d ago

Microsoft never could maintain a longrunning decent 3D platformers series of their own

AZRoboto2513d ago

I don't think "longrunning" is really necessary... Isn't Blinx the only one that got a sequel?

darthv722513d ago

Blinx needs to return if at least to show up Bubsy.

ninsigma2513d ago

Not sure if it was Xbox only back in the day but I'd love a current gen jet set radio!

Paytaa2513d ago

Jet Set Radio Future was only on Xbox. Fantastic game. Even better than Jet Set Radio for the Dreamcast in my opinion. Such a good soundtrack too

ninsigma2513d ago

Game was beast and deserves to come back on current gen. And hell yeah plus one for that soundtrack!

Review: Table Top Racing: World Tour (Xbox One) by The Gamerscore Whores

Without a doubt, one of our highlights from EGX Rezzed 2016 was Table Top Racing. It was almost a classic love tale…”As soon as we locked eyes… (enter mushy crap here…)” – We think you get the picture. It just reminded us of a time where gaming was much less complicated and way more colourful, however at the time the game was only due to be released on the PS4… That’s not a bad thing. It just mean’t that being my primary console of choice is Xbox One, we wouldn’t get to play this any time soon as the majority of my games and friends reside in the Microsoft ecosystem – so when we got word this was getting a release on Xbox One, we immediately put our hands up and said “Yes, Please!”.
