PSN!: Review - Black Ops multiplayer is almost perfect

In spite of the current connection issues pending to amendment, Treyarch has completed an almost perfect multiplayer experience. It is better than Modern Warfare 2 and delivers a lot of improvements.

COD is too big on consoles for Treyarch to support with dedicated servers.

I mean if there's over two million people playing at the same time on XBL, that's ~140,000 servers that they have to host maintain.

At least on PC, the servers are run and maintained by gamers, so it makes a bit more sense for dedicated servers on the PC side of things.

True, but it's not like as if Activision is poor. I mean, they've just made $360 million in 24 hours. Surely it doesn't cost that much to maintain servers for console players, specially when other games offer them like Battlefield or Killzone, for example.

I dont think you really should be asking for them . However rich a publisher might be , it's a huge cost . They didnt get rich by making huge expense at our benefits

If you were given this feat , they certainly would start charging for online

Uhhhh, I don't think WOW uses 140,000 servers.
Its significantly less than that, and players fund that server cost.

Acti would and do complain about dedicated servers, hence MW2 giving PCs no server support, even though it would be outta gamers pockets.

mm nothing surprising , but disagree for what ? Everyone would like dedicated servers for each game .. but we all know big publishers are getting greedier ... they dont spend money without the hope of investment return

With that amount of greed , dedicated servers will disappear from consoles , and if coming back , it's obviously with an extra cost , subcription or not .

I believe it is a lot better than Mw2 but I can't stand the constant frame drops when i'm playing MP, the map design is almost as good as CoD4 IMO and I love the leveling system.

I haven't really experienced any glitches that I know of but if they don't do something about the frame-rate i'll be selling this game within a month.

COD 1 also had some awesome MP maps. There was one in particular that was a nighttime battle in and around a German estate/manor that I wish they'd bring back. LOVED that map.

Come to think of it, why are all the MP maps in recent COD games always in daylight?

Jacob, none of the issues it has are un-patchable. And even when I get frustrated with it (as I did last night)...right now, I desperately want to play it. That's the mark of a good game.

The story is a big point of contention I think.

People either love it or hate it. I think it's because it's both very dark and a bit of a mind-bender, with the jumping around, the drugged protagonist, and the conspiracies. Some people hate that kinda thing.

I'm a big fan of anything that screws with my head a little. I think the story is light years better than either of the MW games. MW plots were like a Michael Bay film. Black Ops' plot feels more like a Chris Nolan film, if Chris Nolan made a war movie.

I think that OVERALL this is the best COD of the generation SP actually had a good story for once and no one can say if the MP if is good or bad yet since no one has really exploited any overpowered weapons yet so gotta wait a month or 2 for that...

I do have a conspiracy theory that disgruntled IW devs are astroturfing Amazon with bad reviews though. Sounds ridiculous, but I've never seen so many unreasonably hateful and ill-conceived "opinions".

This game has sold 7 million units in just one day. I think that there is a parameter to consider.

It's November 11th, 2 days after release.

Uh, if you think THIS multiplayer is a noobfest, then you hated both MW games, because this one addresses the biggest noob-problems those had.

Noob tubers and rocket-wh**es have become far less effective, quick scoping is no longer an issue...it's just better, unless you LIKED such lame tactics. In which case you can always fall back on MW2.

I do think the remote controlled cars are a bit much and should become a 4-kill streak, but I'm sure they will address that.

The hit detection has got to be fixed. The amount of times ive sprayed and sprayed only for them to run around the corner like nothings happened, Every gun i get i have to purchase extended mags cause it takes half a clip to down 1 person, Completely ruins the experience. Spawning system is poor. What about the leaderboards??? 1 minute im on 7000 kills 2 days later im on 180,000 kills, I only play for like two hours a day max as i work.

All in all the games core gameplay is broken. Fair enough MW2 had glitches and unfair perks but its core gameplay was up to par. Maybe its just my Ps3 version cause if it wern't i would be emmbarrased if i was treyarch

Yes it was up to par. When i shot someone it registered, When i stabbed someone it registered. The core gameplay did what is was suppose to do. When i shoot someone in black ops all i get is hit markers then there down, Not to mention the hit and miss knifing. Improvement in some areas it may be but its still a broken game, Nothing more, Nothing less

I've only been noob tubed twice in 14 hours online. For me this is the second best COD after Modern warfare 1. Having a lot of fun with it, mainly because they balanced it so well and the maps are the best I've seen in any COD.

Yeh noob tubes are no longer overpowered. I think they lowered the radius and on top of that flak jacket just weakens them more. I like this COD and it is the best this generation.

Yeah, it's perfect, except for lag, respawn point all fucked up, audio bug, tuned down graphic, a broken party system, mic don't work correctly, your Ps3 will freeze 4 time out of 5.

call of duty, i have a clan since 2005 for any cod.
But this COD is a major letdown.
You are lucky if you don't have problem but try to take a look at the official forum and see how many people subscribe just to make a complaint.
BTW, I'm not complaining about the game itself, but the problem it has.
It's a remarkable game but filled with problem. And this make me mad even more.

I thought the campaign was amazing , nice twist to it like a movie or something lol , the online is good , i have experienced lag occasionally but thats bound to happen every now and then with 2 million people online , i think i played mw2 to much cause the onlines gonna take some getting use to , its not so run and gun , well it is but you tend to die more my rating 9.7/10 but ide give that to mw2 aswell as i love modern combat games just my opinion happy gaming.
