IGN: Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit Review

Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit is pure over-the-top driving entertainment. The cars and environments are gorgeous, the crashes are spectacular, and the new Autolog feature breathes new life into the time-honored tradition of video game competition among friends. The single-player races can become somewhat repetitive and there are some presentation issues, but overall, Hot Pursuit is a blast. If you’re looking for a high-octane racer that grabs on tight but doesn’t take itself too seriously, give this one a shot.

Presentation - 8.5
Graphics - 9.0
Sound - 9.0
Gameplay - 9.0
Lasting Appeal - 8.5

Holy spaghettiooo 3 websites gave this game a 9 including IGN :D

Now I want this game so bad!

Only 1 week to go

shikamaroooo4920d ago

defs getting it but no Cockpit Veiw ....?

TrevorPhillips4920d ago (Edited 4920d ago )

Doesn't matter bro, it's Hot Pursuit baby woooo!!!!

JJohan - That other racer is GT5 right....I know how you feel buddy.

But look on the bright side. 2 best racers and FPS which is Black Ops :D

jjohan354920d ago

I am incredibly surprised about the glowing reviews so far about this game. I'm definitely interested but there's another racer around the corner that's twisting my panties...

KozmoOchez4920d ago

I was kinda disapointed with lack of cockpit view also, then i realized that a game like this is best played where you can see where cars are coming from and slam them...I'll live w/o it. Plus I won this from N4G's October Forum contest thing, can't complain about freeness

nordberg4920d ago

i don t like driving car without cockpit with my g25 wheel. For sample, i prefer driving Burnout with the ps3 controller and midnight club with my g25. With F1 2010 and gt5 both with cockpit view, i will wait for this one...:(

tacosRcool4920d ago

This is an arcade racer. I remember playing Hot Pursuit on my PS2 and it was so fun playing in the over the top view!

nix4920d ago

YOU PHAAAIIIILLLL!!!

mind you, i had high expectation for this game!!!

nix4920d ago

"If the single-player campaign feels a little bit too easy, the roads a little bit empty and the events a bit repetitive you'll still find yourself going back for more...."

i, most of the time, play SP campaign. and no offline MP either!

DeadlyFire4920d ago

EA has successfully reboxed Hot Pursuit 2 into this generation. I hope its little stronger title than Hot Pursuit 2.

AAACE54920d ago

I usually don't buy 2 games in 1 month, but I might end up getting this next week! That demo had me hooked. I keep trying to get my time down in the cop chase part. So far I am at 2 minutes 4 seconds!

It's kinda corny, but everytime I start a chase, I hear Rod Farva(Super Troopers) say, "Let's go 91!"

... Kinda sad I guess, but the game is fun!

UltraNova4919d ago

I dont know but for an arcade racer the controls are pretty stiff, nothing like burnout paradise which for me had the best arcade driving mechanics ever created.

MGRogue20174920d ago (Edited 4920d ago )

Can't go wrong with 9.0 from 3 different review sites so far..

It's a f**king Must-Buy people. :)

Pandemic4920d ago

Awesome, didn't expect this great score.

Incipio4920d ago

Give me a freaking cockpit view, this is 2010 we have consoles with enough power to render the inside of a freaking car.

No-buy for me.

Incipio4920d ago (Edited 4920d ago )

The ONLY game I prefer Hood view is Dirt 2. Although I still enjoyed the cockpit view.

And UnSelf, thank you for your uncivilized reply, you tool.

jjohan handled himself with much more aplomb.

jjohan354920d ago

For some reason I always preferred hood view over cockpit view. I always felt that the cockpit view crowded too much visual space for the TV, which isn't exactly realistic. But have more options for everyone is always nice, but I guess I am personally unaffected by the lack of cockpit view. At least NFS Hot Pursuit has hood view (shown in the IGN video review).

Looking Back to Two of Need for Speed's Best Games - Most Wanted and Hot Pursuit

Paul writes - "EA know a good thing when they see it, and for multiple years November was Need for Speed month. In a break from the usual routine, I'm going to be looking back at two games here, released in 2005 and 2010 respectively. The earlier game is Need for Speed: Most Wanted, which has the distinction of being one of the very best in the franchise. The second game comes from 2010, and is Need for Speed Hot Pursuit; which I'll talk about just as the Remastered version of the game has hit the stores."

Hotpursuit 2 was good as well.

The-Matrix-has-you155d ago (Edited 155d ago )

I completely adore this game! In fact its probably my favorite racing game. I recently dusted off my xbox 360 to play Most Wanted 2005. Still a great game, though I do not remember there being such horrible performance. Like massive frame-pacing issues. screen tearing, latency. If any game ever truly needed to be remastered, it this one for sure!

Uuuu, I loved this one. I want it.

LucasRuinedChildhood1308d ago

No NFS released since Hot Pursuit (2010) has came close. The Ghost Games NFS games were just dreadful (to me they were anyway, 2015 was okay I suppose). Would love to replay this and I hope it has an update for next-gen as well.

DarkZane1308d ago (Edited 1308d ago )

I loved Most Wanted as well (on PS3, I think it released in 2012). After that, it has gone downhill, but the latest games are slowly coming back up. I loved NFS Heat, but it needs to get better before it comes back to same level as NFS Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted.

Then again, NFS Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted were likely better because they were from Criterion (in fact, those were the last 2 games from criterion in nfs series).

LucasRuinedChildhood1308d ago

@DarkZane
complete agree. Most Wanted was good fun as well.

boing11307d ago

Yeah, Criterion has made two best NFS games in my opinion.

georeo1308d ago

Oh yes! They cops vs the drivers online was a blast.

LucasRuinedChildhood1308d ago

Better be 60FPS unlike the original console ports.

Sgt_Slaughter1308d ago

I would be excited but NFS is basically dead in the water at this point, a shell of its former self.
