Awesome now I know which one to buy

ScarT4935d ago

Why do the PS3 multiplats always look like the brightness has been turned up?

Active Reload4935d ago

So the PS3 wasn't the lead platform? Anyway, I didn't know Call of Duty looked this good.

zootang4935d ago

PS3 for the free online

Oner4935d ago (Edited 4935d ago )

@ ScarT ~ that is all the difference comes down to basically...something that can be minorly adjusted via your TV settings or even within the game if they have it built in. Easy & Simple fix. Not a big deal.

Edit:
@ zootang ~ I agree and that is a bigger deal than a contrast/brightness fixable "issue".

Dramscus4935d ago (Edited 4935d ago )

I find the higher contrast on the xbox version gives things more of a video game look where as the brighter ps3 shots make things more realistic.

Not in every case to be sure, the shot were of driving at night where the guy had shadows on the xbox version and no shadows on the ps3 version didn't look right by any means. The ps3 should have had more of those shadows, but in well lit rooms the xbox version has too many shadows and it looks like poor/overdone lighting.

BattleAxe4935d ago

You can never trust these comparisons. Anything can be done to make one look better than the other, such as turning up the brightness or playing with some of the video filters.

evrfighter4935d ago

the only picture that got my attention was the third one down. slide it over past the shutter. big difference.

all in all

I dont give a damn because I'll be playing on dedicated servers and you all know which version that plays on.

Theonik4935d ago

Could be the HDMI settings. 360 has full range by default while PS3 defaults to limited. Setting it to full makes the scene slightly darker if it's not supported.
In this comparison though the 360 edges the PS3 for being less blurry. They're about the same though.
Free online on PS3 is more important for me but i'm not buying the game at all. If i were i'd probably get it on PC. (best of both worlds and dedicated servers) Overall i don't think the game looks all that good btw.

frostypants4935d ago (Edited 4935d ago )

Because they probably "forgot" to turn on the PS3's RGB Full Range for the HDMI. Oldest, dirtiest trick in the book...and one that is pretty unforgivable these days.

I have a 360 and a PS3 hooked up to the same TV, and picture contrast/brightness can always be made to look the same on each.

Lens of Truth is doing this intentionally. Generating controversy for a major release = lots of hits for them.

I'll be buying the 360 version of this because more of my CoD-playing buddies have a 360. But this comparison is garbage.

I've played MW and MW2 on both platforms, and the simple truth is that Call of Duty games look IDENTICAL on the two consoles. Period. There's no difference.

gamerzBEreal174935d ago

lol idk but its something new with GTA4 ps3 had the darker version so did arkam asylum so maybe its the developers fauilt but u can always fix the brightness u guys should be looking at the detail and the textures not the brightness

NecrumSlavery4935d ago

I am still getting this on the PS3 but jesus these look horrible on the PS3 side. I have played COD4-MW2 on PS3 and they are just about equal to the 360. But these clearly make the 360 version look HD and the PS3 version look like an N64 game. I don't think these are necessarily tampered, but the adjustments look poor on the PS3s setting. Looks like high brightness on component cables to defualt settings on HDMI. I am sure the engine runs a little bit better on 360, but this looks like a huge gap. Activision got there MS check, so why the hell bother putting in a little extra effort for the otehr guys eh?

artsaber4935d ago (Edited 4935d ago )

Minor adjustments to my TV set can compensate for brightness/darkness... sometimes even controlled by the in-game video menu. As long as I'm not running through screen tearing, etc., I won't care too much. I don't think I'll be sitting around admiring the scenery while playing this game unless I want my head shot off. I have the PC version right now, haven't installed it yet... thinking about picking up the PS3 version since a friend asked.

I say buy for the console your friends play on. That way you'll have more fun online.

HolyOrangeCows4935d ago

"Call of Duty: Black Ops was captured in 720p using HDMI cables for both systems"

Which means nothing if you idiots use the wrong settings as usual.

InfectedDK4935d ago

Looks very fake
I'll have to wait and see when I get my PS3 copy ;-)

badz1494935d ago

doesn't matter which version you get, both are sub-HD!

colombiankilla014935d ago

maybe because the website is trying to make the ps3 look bad, I have the game and I can tell you the game looks better than that! Only xbots go to that site to feel better about their sorry ass console!!!

ambientFLIER4935d ago (Edited 4935d ago )

"doesn't matter which version you get, both are sub-HD!"

Don't they both run at 720p now?

"I've played MW and MW2 on both platforms, and the simple truth is that Call of Duty games look IDENTICAL on the two consoles. Period. There's no difference."

MW2 has bloom on the 360.

Beefstew4u4935d ago

Ps3 version seems to be missing self-shadows. Couple that with lower res textures, and you have a typical lazy multi-plat title.
Oh well, not getting the game anyway. Not after the crapfest that was Modern Warfare 2.

TheStonedSheep4935d ago

Yeah, the contrast is certainty less on the PS3, but I imagine the problem could be lessened by reducing the brightness.

Also the key thing: the textures are identical so it's just really just a change in lighting between the two. However I don't think these minor discrepancies between PS3 and 360 should decided what console you get this on: I'm choosing by what my friends are getting Black Ops on.

RedDead4935d ago (Edited 4935d ago )

Lol

This site is F***ing pathetic, when lens of truth ses the Ps3 version is better, it's hailed like the next coming of jesus, when the 360 version is better, stealth disagrees run rampent and people try and compensate for it, of course Ps3 has free online, that's not what the article is about though, the 360 version of Black ops is better that's all. As if Kotick would let them spend more time and money to make the Ps3 version better than the 360 one though. only a few dedicated Devs would do that.

totallysane4935d ago

ps3 is always the one that suffers, due to not being the designing platform, the port always suffers, noone sees this

MR LOOKINGBILL4934d ago

360 versionlooks far superior much sharper than the ps3 version....enjoy your inferior copy ps3 boys.

kneon4934d ago

I've been playing the game for the last couple of hours on PS3 and if you have the brightness adjusted correctly like they instruct you to at the beginning of the game then it looks like the Xbox shots.

moparful994934d ago

Frankly I'm getting tired of these comparissons because the differences between the two are so minor and inconsequential that you have to have enlarged photos to even show this difference.. I could care less if the textures on one are a little more crisp then the other.. All that matters is how does it play? Have they finally released a balanced game? Do they finally have reliable servers and and a decent matchmaking system? Thats what really matters, not pixels...

Longrod_Von_Hugendon4935d ago

Marginal differences but ultimately the same IMO. And games will aways look better on an actual screen but these give you an general idea.

Why do Xbox's screenshots always look underexposed?

kneon4935d ago

And why do the PS3 shots all look over exposed. They really need some sort of calibration before doing the comparison as the differences in brightness really throw things off.

But there are some odd things going on. Take a look at the sixth picture and compare the color of the arm at the lower left corner, on PS3 he looks black on Xbox he looks white.

Muffins12234935d ago

Xbox version better,go to first screenshot and put it on air vent. The decals are horrible on ps3,but the shading is slightly better for ps3,but overall xbox look better. And 59 percent agree on the lens of truth.I dont care if i get thumbs down, its true

Cevapi884935d ago

like it matters, it will sell millions on all 3 platforms....idk what the sales for the wii version have been in the past for CoD so i wont touch on that subject

FanboyPunisher4934d ago

XBOX 360 = Only way to play multiplats on a console.

PS3 is gimped on Mplats every time i see them.

Anon19744934d ago (Edited 4934d ago )

What screenshots were you looking at? Textures were damn near identical overall, but the 360 lighting system is broken next to the PS3. There's screenshots were it's hard to tell what you're even looking at on the 360 version due to how dark everything is. Meanwhile the PS3 has better lighting showing more details, and a subtler - more realistic quality about the overall images. PS3 for the win, again.

AllyOmega4934d ago (Edited 4934d ago )

OH NOEZ!!!! THAT pixel is kinda blurry!!!! I must sell my PS3 for it has FORSAKEN MEEEEE!!!!! It's just impossible to play with that blurry pixel!!!! how dare I even look at it!!! MUST Buy360, else my head will esplode from such a horrible pixel!!!!
It's okay, FanboyPunisher, we still love you anyways. :P

Anyhow, yeah, they need to calibrate these things. It's kind of tricky to compare them when one makes a guy look black and the other makes the guy look white. Also, in that picture with the cigarette, there's a completely different guy sitting in the back table in each version. What the heck? If i buy this game, thats gonna annoy me.

Persistantthug4934d ago (Edited 4934d ago )

Selective viewing or selective memory?

Multiplatform Games are better depending which console said game was led developed on....that's all.

ct034935d ago

Apart from the obvious difference in contrast, the PS3 seems to use lower resolution shadow maps.

Looking at the 6th image (in the bar), the drop shadows are very blurry and undefined where they are much crisper in the 360 version (underneath the arm or the shadow on the man's shirt)

Other than that they look comparable. I do think that the contrast is too high on the 360 (the blacks are crushed).

Kleptic4934d ago

Isn't this mostly the same engine as Modern Warfare from 07?...if so, both console versions are 600p @ 60fps...

These comparisons always look the same to me...Some shots have better lighting on the 360 (the vehicle shot)...and some look better on the PS3 (the cast shadows on the ground on one of the last shots)...but both are so similar it never matters...

as usual though, the PS3 version seems brighter...and the 360 version seems darker...I understand they are saying 'default' settings for both systems...but I have NEVER had my HDTV set up to make a game look that bright...thats the main reason that these comparisons are always so worthless to everyone...

Downtown boogey4935d ago (Edited 4935d ago )

I'm not buying this after seeing they crapped all over the PS3 version WTF??!!

3rd image, left of the door. See the goddamn difference in the texture!

RudeSole Devil4935d ago

Some images on the PS3 look really bad, what gives.

CernaML4935d ago

Pretty sure the texture just didn't load fast enough on the PS3.

frostypants4935d ago

Like CernaML said, it's *probably* just a texture load issue.

Which "Lens of Truth" conveniently managed to screenshot.

I'll say again: they generate hits via controversy. Telling everyone that a major release looks identical on both platform is a missed opportunity for web hits. On the other hand, creating differences by blowing out the contrast on one platform and exploiting texture loading = profit.

Shogun Master4935d ago

I think it just looks worse, its not rocket science.

Enigma_724935d ago

@frostypants - Perhaps you should read the verdicts on a few multi-platform games that have been analyzed by lens of truth before you jump so quickly to the naive assumption that they are creating controversy to increase revenue. They acknowledged the more dynamic lighting on the PS3, while also acknowledging the sharper textures on the 360. Nonetheless, they haven't even published the actual verdict. The only controversy of this article is what resulted when a PS3 fan boy idiot decided to say something without thinking first. Perhaps also, you should invest in a lobotomy...

Looks like they didn't turn on full RGB for PS3. COD engine runs better on PS3 but of course if you have the cash PC will crush any system.

Graphics4935d ago

Wow where you get this info from? Cod engine runs better on ps3? I have MW2 on ps3 and 360 and no matter what i do to the settings of my t.v and ps3 it no where comes close to what the 360 version looks like. Darkening brightness and lowering contrast is not going to make the game suddenly have Antialisng, better texture graphics, and more self shadowing and other effects ps3 multipltats always lack. And you people with this RGB full nonsense, thats only for pc monitors not televisions. The ps3 will always look best with limited on a HD television. RGB full crushes the blacks and and makes you lose a lot of detail. research RGB full vs limited.

MegaMohsi4935d ago (Edited 4935d ago )

MW2 specifically looks almost similar on both platforms. They both have 2x AA and 1024x600 resolution, so i dont know where you're getting this "nowhere close to" comparison. Performance is a different story, the 360 is able to handle the engine better in overall FPS especially when a lot is going onscreen, the rest of your post I agree with RGB full is not for everyone.

Muffins12234935d ago

true, but not by much for what you pay for.I better see a 6,000 dollar difference...........

frostypants4935d ago

Not sure where you get your info regarding RGB Full on the PS3. Most AV freaks would tell you to turn it on. All I can do is leave you with this...
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Kleptic4934d ago (Edited 4934d ago )

Graphics...your whole comment is full of incorrect information...which is the usual case when 360 fanatics attempt to talk about AV features that the PS3 has...and the 360 doesn't...You are correct on some things with RGB full, but you generalized it in a way that makes it very misleading...

RGB full is a derivative of 'deep color' and 'x.v. color' supported in HDMI 1.3 (i.e. not on the 360)...Its a format only supported by newer HDTV (almost any new one right now, but only higher end models from about 2008 prior)...It allows 10bit color output, and is also used in tandem with 'super white', a color reproduction process that allows proper contrast with very bright screens...

it IS designed for games...where the PS3 has other options for film (with actual Deep and x.v. color options now for TV's that support it; which is much more related to film than games)...but is not supported by all HDTV's, hence the default being 'limited'...

but its not just for PC monitors...no idea where you got that...Anyone with a PS3 can see that if their TV supports it...turning it on immediately removes color grading that is noticeable on the XMB...and it clearly gives everything a more saturated look...

the 'black crushing' you are talking about occurs in certain film formats (particularly DVD), where it is encouraged to select Y PB/CB Pr/Cr for video output (not games, just video) of those types...as the HDTV is actually processing a lot of the picture entirely...and over contrasting is a common problem (you can use RGB full with DVD playback, but will then need to adjust contrast and gamma filters on the HDTV to get it 'right')...however Blu Ray's newer encoding technology allows it to be formatted to support RGB full (as well as all the other 10 bit panel possibilities of those TVs) for the best possible picture quality and color reproduction...

here is a test, and some more information about RGB Full...Anyone can use this to see if there HDTV properly supports RGB Full...

you can't see that the 360 has the better textures... Look at the 3rd screen shot down, and observe the blinds on the door, you can clearly see that the textures are better on the 360. AND I am not saying this as some blind desperate fanboi... IT IS JUST FACT... so take your fanboi glasses off and just keep it real!

AllyOmega4934d ago

It does have better textures, noone's denying it. But there are trade-offs. Some people think that the PS3 has better lighting and contrast. The only reason I even look at these things is to see if there's a major difference, Like in Bayonetta or Final Fantasy XIII. A blurry window won't bother me enough to go trade in my system for the other.

SpitFireAce854935d ago

You know whats funny donkeydoo that your just an

so go troll somwhere else....

Pandemic4935d ago (Edited 4935d ago )

The only reason it doesn't look as good on the Playstation 3 is because Treyarch/Activision don't know how to use the Playstation 3 to it's full capacity..

Kurt Russell4934d ago

Maybe because it's messy to code for? Given an almost unlimited fund and 5 years development time like the exclusives it might look better... But that's the playstations fault at the end of the day.

DigitalAnalog4935d ago

But for the first time ever. I prefer the PS3 to be the inferior port. Or any reason that make the PS3 version lose even more sales.

-End statement

vhero4935d ago (Edited 4935d ago )

If you say there is a difference other than lighting on this game than your biased Activision have done a damn good job at this multiplatofrm game. @donkeydoo buying a game based on graphics performance is the most stupid thing I ever heard if you own both consoles you should base it on things like friends who are buying and the DLC MS are getting first (not that thats important to most people but is if you are extremely stuck choosing i guess)

I also love how people are starting to say all games are ps3 lead platform lately when devs are not even stating it because they think 360 has won.

KazYamauchi4935d ago

Very disapointed Treyarch/Activision.

mittwaffen4934d ago (Edited 4934d ago )

HDMI --LIMITED ON PS3 MADE THE COMPAIRSON BOTCHED!?

I guess limited range makes...
-Textures low resolution
-Missing shadows
-Low res shadows/missing shadows completely on characters?

NO! Welcome back to REALITY children, you can stop your crying like little school girls...

Yeah, simple as that you people are so blind by your fanboyism that its fairly pathetic reading some of these retarded comments.

PlayStation 3 (24%, 956 Votes)

I play game online on the 360, the PS3, AND the PC.

You PC elitists are full of crap. I hear a LOT of obnoxious children online with the PC (which I use for playing Left for Dead). And here's the kicker: the ADULTS in multiplayer PC games tend to be less mature and more socially awkward than the adults on the 360/PS3, in my experience.

As for gameplay, the difference is marginal. It's really a question of graphics and resolution, and even *that* margin is fading over the years.

I hate pc gaming because everyone will have a difference experience due to hardware differences. At least with consoles everyone is experiencing the same thing. Well at least graphically!

Eiffel4935d ago (Edited 4935d ago )

Lol, actually that isn't true.

Saying between hardware differences for PC and output cables for consoles, there is a huge difference. Not everyone has HDMI, not everyone has Component/Composite cables, on top of that not everyone has an HDTV. Most generally people are stuck within either 360p, 480p, 720p, 1080p/1080i. That's a lot of differences.

frostypants4935d ago (Edited 4935d ago )

Despite this, console gaming setups are still far more uniform than PCs. There's also far less room for hacking with consoles, thus no need for intrusive junk like Punkbuster. Also, the vast majority of people are using the same control scheme on consoles, which levels the playing field a bit.

AKS4935d ago

Not necessarily true. It's not like you need a monster dual card, water cooled gaming rig to play Team Fortress 2 or many other excellent games. In fact, many are still playing Counter-Strike. You will see some disparity between some games, but most aren't that demanding, especially those that are multiplatform (although there are big exceptions, of course; Crysis 2 and Rage will be very demanding).

gillri4935d ago (Edited 4935d ago )

no analogue movement, no pressure triggers, no force feedback?....no thx

I can play that game too

apart from RTS's and MMO's, controllers for everything

NYC_Gamer4935d ago (Edited 4935d ago )

well my 360 controller works fine on my PC....you must have forgot that PC is open hardware...hell even can use the dualshock 3

vickers5004935d ago

Yeah, it can, but it can't use a DS3 properly. Go on and use a DS3 to play both Bioshock and CoD4 with a DS3 on a PC, and then a PS3. Have it on the same tv so you can switch video sources and compare the experiences immediately, instead of doing it later on.

The feel between using the DS3 on a PS3 and a PC is MASSIVELY different. I'm not talking about button mapping here, but the actual movement. It's not the same at all, so the whole "you can use your controller on your pc" argument" is no longer a valid suggestion for console gamers to move to pc, as it is extremely different.

I don't know about the 360 controller on PC, it may work fine, but I do know for sure that the DS3 performs completely different from how it does on an actual ps3.

NYC_Gamer4935d ago

i never said that console gamers should move on to pc....it was just reply to the dude above who made it seem like u cant use controllers to play games on pc...

Ducky4935d ago (Edited 4935d ago )

Why on earth would someone use a DS3 to play an FPS on a PC?
O.o

Not sure how analogue movement and pressure triggers are considered a plus... but you're right on the force feedback.
The increased resolution make up for it... sort of. =/

Anyways, they cater to different audiences. Console are better at action/adventure/racing... PCs have the edge in FPS/RTS/MMO-whatever.
