Cowen and Company analyst Doug Creutz thinks Guitar Hero maker Activision's best strategy to combat the declining popularity of the music game genre is to acquire rival franchise Rock Band, or pursue a "joint venture agreement" with series owner Viacom.
"We believe Activision's best option at this point would be to approach Viacom with idea of (re)merging the 'Guitar Hero' and 'Rock Band' franchises through a sale or joint venture agreement," he wrote in a research note this morning.
