Windows Phone 7 Gets Release Date, Strong Publisher Support

Ex: Expect Microsoft to push Windows Phone 7 as they would the Xbox 360: a video game machine that doubles as a multipurpose electronic and social media device. That was the message being delivered as part of a Microsoft Press Conference in New York this morning discussing Windows Phone 7 and several key partnerships.

Multiple handsets (from Dell, Samsung, LG and others) are being released as early as October 21st to European and Asian markets, with a North American launch sometime in November.

hopefully they could maximize the full potential of the windows phone 7.

I would buy 2 day 1, but I cant switch my service from Sprint/Nextel. Can do it, however, I've been with Nextel since forever.

M$ when you let Sprint/Nextel have a phone, let me/us know please.

Thank You

wat6344947d ago

another sprint user, eh?

Been using nextel for as long as i can remember, direct connect ftw!

RageAgainstTheMShine4947d ago (Edited 4947d ago )

i wonder how many billions M$ gave away now to lure developers n publishers?

and what's with free loading on the Win 7 brand name?

CrAppleton4947d ago

The whole Xbox Live integration is what I'm interested in. Their GameHub could blow away Apple's offerings if done right.

etownone4947d ago

Yeah ... but I still think they should have raised the minimum required specs for these devices, maybe include that Tegra 2 CPU.

Then they would really be pushing out some next gen phone games.
Nevertheless, I'm very interested.

simplyRealistic184947d ago

that would be a stupid move on their part,

not every hardware runs the same way on different phones even after heavy optimizations, there are so many snapdragon phone out on the market, on a few of them are actually very responsive,

Windows Phone 7 is really the after thought right now behind IOS,Android, BlackBerry so why do something that will limit supporters of your product

Active Reload4947d ago

The only phone's form factor I like is the Dell one.

The Samsung Focus looks pretty good. Super AMOLED Screen and the only WP7 phone to have MicroSD Card support. But I think I'll either stick to a new android phone, or go with a blackberry torch this November. I mean just look at what is not included in Windows Phone 7, as of right now:

Main disadvantages:
•No system-wide file manager
•No videocalling
•Limited third-party apps availability
•No Bluetooth file transfers
•No USB mass storage mode
•No multitasking
•No copy/paste
•Too dependent on Zune software for computer file management and syncing
•No music player equalisers
•No Flash or Silverlight support in the web browser
•No sign of free Bing maps Navigation so far
•No DivX/XviD video support
•No internet tethering support

All of these which Android has now, and Blackberry, for the most part (even iPhone, although I hate Apple), all have these features in their OS'es and at least support SD card support on "all" phones. I just don't know if it's worth it to go WinMo7 just yet. Perhaps next year!!

etownone4947d ago

So true. Good points.

Either way, it's probably better to wait a while for them to get up to date and iron all the bugs out. I know they keep saying copy and paste comes early next year .... but the deal breaker for me could be that Flash support. Hope they give us an update on that soon.

And yeah, rt now Android is hot. I'm waiting on that rumered Droid T2 to come out before end of the year.

dragonelite4947d ago

Fuck flash give me html 5 support no more need for flash/silverlight and shit.

GrilledCheeseBook4947d ago

I wouldn't want one until probably a year once they get their adequate functionality

Zeevious4947d ago (Edited 4947d ago )

Been waiting for fixes since this was called WinCE, and here we are, now on the SEVENTH version, with standard features taken OUT?

The USB Mass storage mode just got in as a semi-standard in 6.1-6.5!!!
It's incredibly infuriating to not just be able to plug the device in without what I call a "CrappApp" -- ActiveSync just to transfer a couple files, pictures or content!

I can't believe these features are gone...Are I and other Windows Mobile users really expected to trust Microsoft just one more time, because the 7 version really works now.

Not like version 6.5, or 6.1 or 6 or 5 or . . .

Every prior version was nothing but a Today screen & slight interface re-skinning. So now, I'm expected to buy more of the same and get LESS for it?

Unless this is truly some miracle mobile OS even without all of the above, I'm not waiting another year, or another month.

I tried out the latest 4G Android phone, and it was as sleek and functional as the box looked that MS Shoveled Vista into.

Compared to any version of Windows Mobile I've used . . . These ARE the Droids you're looking for.

Too bad Verizon isn't getting a WP7 this year cause Im up for an upgrade and not gonna wait till next year.

But yeah, I could definitely see me getting a WP7 in the future.

EDIT @ kissmeimgreek
Verizon is definitely getting WP7 next year, I think I read it has something to do with Verizons CDMA ... but every carrier will have WP7 phones by next year.
Has nothing to do with KIN .... lol ... although that was complete FAIL on ms part.

kissmeimgreek4947d ago (Edited 4947d ago )

Verizons just upset over the Kin. I think theyll come around next year.

EDIT:

i doubt it would have anything to do th CDMA since Sprints coming out with a few this year. And VZ nor MS have announced anythingabout WP7 next year so you never know.

Oh yeah! I'm so going to get that!

"Oh yeah! I'm so going to get that!
Said nobody ever."

I don't know if the blind hate is directed towards Microsoft or Angry Birds, but you DO realize that it's going to get millions of downloads, right?

Not saying I'm a fan, just saying that because we don't like something doesn't mean it's going to fail.

a_bro4010d ago

i think he's directing that hate towards the game itself, not microsoft.

it has to do with the game's casual focus, and how investors are stating that games like these are the future, even though they suck.
