Looks like Square Enix should have delayed the MMO for 2011 release date to work on it a bit more and then Release it same time as the PS3 version. Would have probably worked out better than releasing it this month considering the bad scores & reception it's getting.

i've condemned wow with a passion. I played it for only 3 months when it launched got to 60 and never touched it again. I ended up playing ffxi for about 4 years.

FF14 comes out and I find myself wanting to go back to WoW?????

MMOs can't be judged on 20 hours of play...that's because SE asked to review ffxiv after a month!don't expect ppl to have seen all of this game..
a review generally comes out after the reviewer has completed the game and can give it a score! this review is based on a 0.5% of the game!!! it's like me playing U2 and giving it a 3/10 because the only level i played was the museum and i didn't like stealth..(loved it, just an example).

5:41 still makes me laugh and I think this is the best review GT has done and being a game that I was certainly looking forward to it saddens me to see these low scores. As a current subscriber to FFXI this is sad to hear all these bad things being stated about it's successor. Though since I have to wait for the PS3 version I do hope quite a few things will be patched and or added. One thing that doesn't make sense in not being in at launch is Auction House, even FFXI had one at launch I don't see why it wasn't included.

Considering the CG opening that has you going from battling one of the worst monsters in the FF "Universe" to witnessing an air war, don't see how something that actually has you playing whack-a-mole and managing your knitting skills can't disappoint.

So far PC is the only proven platform for MMOs. Even FFXI was on a PC before it was on the PS2, so if anything trying to make early accommodations for the PS3 could be the reason behind some of the issues.

Not that by this review it sounds like there are tons of things that should have been worked out pre-beta that were never touched during much less post beta and launch.

Uhhh FFXI was a ps2 game. It released in Japan on ps2 and followed 3 or 4 months later on pc.

Uhhhh FFXI wasn't well received. No one liked the grind, and the forced party play. Most found it very off putting. We also started off with 1 expansion here in the states. Without Rise of the Zilart, the game would have been pretty lame and boring. I don't know why everyone is like omfg this game blows. It won't get good for another 6 months to a year, just like all mmos.

Doesn't anyone here notice that Square makes other games besides Final Fantasy? NOT all of there games this generation have been crap. I agree that there console titles aren't up to par but what about there handheld releases? Would you seriously call games like Crisis Core, The World Ends With You, Dragon Quest, Dissidia and Birth by Sleep the worst games you've ever played? Is it truly fare to say that Square Enix Sucks in general or is it more accurate to say that they are neglecting the quality of there console games?

If they don't fix.... or better yet, "finish" this game before March 2011, I'm done with it. But to be honest though, this really disappoints me a lot, especially since I've been following FFXIV ever since it was announced at E3. My main three games that I was previous looking forward to on PS3 were SOCOM IV, GT5 and FFXIV. SOCOM IV and GT5 are still strong as ever, but FFXIV is just falling and falling and falling... I understand every MMO isn't perfect or what not on release, but to release...err... "rush" a game that doesn't even have it's shit together is horrible. I know I might catch heat on this, but I personally can't believe SE pulled a MS when the 360 was rushed a year early.

Thankfully though, Phantasy Star Online 2 and White Knight Chronicles 2 are coming soon. I haven't given up hope on FFXIV yet, but SE is going to have to do A LOT to make me regain the interest I previously had in FFXIV.

I'm playing it atm with a friend from FFXI and while I do enjoy it there are things that they should fix...like now. Number one is they should add an auction house a.s.a.p, Number two is they should change the quest leves from a 36hr wait timer to 24hrs. If they would make those changes I'd be much more happy about playing, this game could turn into something a lot better with patches. I remember WoW when it was first released and that was a mess. I just hope they make changes soon before something else comes out and more people jump ship.

i have to disagree.. ffxi was and is amazing and IMO better than World of Warcraft.. WoW is more like a casual mmo, its way too easy..

aslo ffxiv is great to me.. there are some things wrong like menu lag, lack of side quests.. but its a more streamlined version of ffxi which again i think was awesome. i would say to anyone thinking about it to get a trial copy if possible.. mmo's are hard to review and hard to take reviews seriously..

no way you can review a game that requires hundreds of hours to just get through the first few parts of the game...

dont believe ther reviews people, if your an mmorpg player you should try it for yourself..

the running aroung part, lol no different from ffxi as well when you didnt have a teleporter or a chocobo..

in ffxi I have a 60 beastmaster and darknight, a 37 warrior, thief, ninja, a 27 white mage, an 18 black mage and a few others, rank 5 one mission short of rank 6 a few mil in gil, 2 mule characters carring my spare gear and sell stuff in bazzaar..

have played ffxi since the release date and i have yet to see everything in ffxi.. that's how i know these reviews are not fair or truthful.. you need a serious mmorpg gamer to do these reviews not a guy with a deadline to release a review..

ffxiv is a much better streamlined version of ffxi.. dont believe the reviews try it for yoursself instead..

I think it's more along the lines of... there's free to play MMOs that are still in beta (or were) that have more content than this. As much as I am a fan of FFXI, I find FFXIV to not only be absolutely unrelated to FFXI, but it's just not a good MMO in general in regards to other MMOs, including the free ones.

Lmao, is it bad that this review really only made me want to play the game? I bought this at collectors launch. And i fell in love with it immediatly. I understand there are still issues. (Which is only given since its only just launched, and this hasty review of an mmo only brings down GT's credibility for me even more) But the majority of them (issues)are small and forgiveable. Its not perfect, but its definitly fun indeed.
