David O. Russell to write and direct UNCHARTED: DRAKE'S FORTUNE

Excerpt- "Neil Blomkamp's Halo could have been the first one to successfully work, but then it fell apart. Then it was Gore Verbinski's BIOSHOCK that could have been the first one. Again, real filmmaker with real passion for an incredibly cinematic story.

Now it seems to be David O. Russell's take on the popular PS3 game Uncharted: Drake's Fortune."

plz no more crappy game-based movies...

Shang-Long4965d ago

so lets hope he does a good job

ExplosionSauce4965d ago

That way, if it turns out to be a bad movie, we can say that it had nothing to do with the games anyways :P haha

RememberThe3574965d ago

This guy knows how to make a movie. Plus he won't forget the comedy that makes Uncharted's characters so great.

Johnny Jiron4965d ago

The guy doesnt have a huge track record yet, however I did enjoy Three Kings. And being he has worked with George Clooney before then possibly Clooney as Sully? Eh eeeeh? Add a bit of star power, but not put him in the major role. Leave that to an up and comer?

alphakennybody4965d ago (Edited 4965d ago )

lol how about harrison ford as sully?I can totally see that.

kaveti66164965d ago

George Clooney hates David O. Russell. Read the wikipedia entry for three kings to find out why. Russell is an a-hole.

RememberThe3574965d ago

I would probably blow up a few time myself. But as a director he does have to keep his composure. Hopefully he has matured in the time since then.

kaveti66164965d ago

@rememberthe357

I don't think he has. He genuinely comes across as an asshole. In another film that he directed called I Heart Huckabees, he called one of the actresses a c*nt during production and screamed in her face during a 5 minute rant or something. Now, granted, I think she probably wasn't the nicest lady, but Russell has always had a bad temper.

In the incident during the production of Three Kings, he pushed down a camera guy or a foreign extra (I don't remember) and George Clooney, being the stand-up guy he is, got into a physical altercation with Russell to defend the fallen man. Russell is a douchebag, and it seems hard to believe that a man with no people skills managed to become a successful film director.

MasterChief36244965d ago

David O. Russell is an ass. It's a proven fact. Just watch any number of behind-the-scenes videos of his production and you will usually see why. I think his goal is to get a rise out of his actors so that their on-screen reaction is that much more intense.

Kind of like what (I believe) Stanley Kubrick did on one of his productions... I forget which one, but there was a movie where he blatantly tried to get a rise out of one of his actresses, and she hated him then, but when she saw the movie she realized just how ingenious it was. I think David O. Russell is trying to emulate that, ten-fold.

Johnny Jiron4965d ago

OOOOOH its "that" guy...wow. Lol yeah I saw that rant he went on.

Bruce Campbell should play Sully!

metsgaming4965d ago

Dont change the basic story that much. Must use greg edmonson Soundtrack, and dont change the camera 3 times every second to give the feeling of action.

floetry1014965d ago

David O. Russell is an EXCELLENT director, and one I wouldn't have expected to do Uncharted. I even thought I Heart Huckabees was hugely underrated.

Great choice.

Sevir044965d ago

I simply hope they dont can it. the ground work is all their. ND's cenimatics are all their its just a matter of taking cues. talking to Nolan and even reading up on this stuff. Stuff like the eye of Indra being weaved in as flash back back stories as to how Nate knows Eddy would be great for a live action movie! and i hope David does a good job translating the comics and Drakes's Fortune to the silver screen. a summer blockbuster should be good. and yes. we want cinematic camera angles that best complements the intense action sequences of Uncharted:DF, not disorienting camera shifts every 3 seconds to portray high octane fights that aren't really high octane.

The Inconsistent Harmony: 5 Examples of Ludonarrative Dissonance in Video Games

VGChartz's Issa Maki: "I finally have a proper designation akin to what I've always referred to internally as 'the line that must be crossed' or 'The Line', for short – ludonarrative dissonance – the separation from a video game's story in relation to its gameplay. Why isn't PETA all up in Mario's grill for jumping on turtles and killing fish, or charging Samus Aran with the extinction of the Metroid species? Ever notice how fire has that habit of making bosses in Resident Evil stronger? Read on my friend, for I endeavor to imbue you with the ability to engage in basic queries concerning the concept."

UC 2, 4, 3 and 1. Great read and article

ABizzel11020d ago

No Golden Abyss -_-, otherwise I agree with the order.

UC2: Best overall
UC4: Best graphics, best gameplay, best locations, best environements
UC3: Best set pieces IMO (the boat and desert fights will always be amazing)
UC1: A rough Draft of what was to come
UCGA: Basically UC1 on Vita

Levii_921021d ago (Edited 1021d ago )

Great list and great article nicely writen and explained. Although for me personaly i would put Drakes Fortune above Drake’s Deception and Uncharted 4 is absolutely my favourite of the franchise and number 1 for me.

Inverno1021d ago

U2 is the only game playable on crushing without causing a great amount of frustration. Not to mention just how much influence it had that they redid some of U2s set pieces like the caravan twice, and armored truck chase in U4.

DFresh1021d ago (Edited 1021d ago )

I'd rate it as the following.

1.) Uncharted 2
(Close to perfection of any game I've played in years. Single Player/Multiplayer/Co Op all amazing.)

2.) Uncharted 3
(On par with UC2 multiplayer/co op wise minus the kickbacks [aka killstreaks]. I really liked the Lawrence of Arabia story.)

3.) Uncharted 4
(Single player is amazing. Multiplayer was meh. Co Op had potential. Absolutely hated the health revive system it slowed down the game way too much. Always preferred the fast pace action of UC2/UC3. Made it way more fun that way. Recoil was too ridiculous that most people in lobbies would only do hip firing, using power weapons and using that OP grappling hook to melee people after dropping them. Nobody wanted to revive anyone.)

4.) Uncharted
(It's the first in the series so it's hard to judge. Though I loved the story.)

NecrumOddBoy1021d ago

I agree here but it’s also a series you can play from front to back and truly enjoy. Story-wise, they are all great and flow so well. I wish they threw both Golden Abyss and Lost Legacy on this list. Lost Legacy is the best mechanically in my opinion. You can see it’s stepping stone framework for TLOUS2.

Michiel19891021d ago

uncharted 2 is one of the few games that actually surpassed its pre-release hype.

medman1020d ago (Edited 1020d ago )

I am a single player gamer...I barely ever touch a multiplayer component. The only exceptions over the years have been the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer, TLOU factions, and the Uncharted 2 multiplayer. The Uncharted 2 multiplayer saw me spend more time playing it than all my other multiplayer experiences over the years combined. That game really was a masterpiece all around.

brando0081020d ago

I agree completely, those are all stellar MP experiences, coming from another SP gamer who only occasionally gives MP some time.

Gardenia1021d ago

Come to think of it, the step between Uncharted 1 and Uncharted 2 is huge. It goes from the weakest in the series to one of the best games ever made.
I think I'm going to play all of them again soon.

Ninver1021d ago

Yeah all of a sudden I've got that Uncharted itch.

Michiel19891021d ago

is multiplayer still up for the remastered trilogy? or did it never have UC2 mp?

Ninver1020d ago

@michiel1989

Not sure
