Lots of people enjoy debating the most overrated video games of all time. For each person who praises Final Fantasy VII, Halo and Gears of War, there’s another who refuses to agree that those aforementioned hits met the hype, and that’s fine. We love these types of arguments. In this case, though, we decided to look at the most overhyped games of 2011, the potential blockbusters that may fall into the overrated category.

That was exactly his point. I mean these articles should have a subcategory called "I want hits". Basic description: Find all the games people are excited for and call them over hyped without ever playing them yourself.

Gaming journalism has dropped to an all-time low in my book. Not to mention the gaming community will follow you until the end until you claim their "most hyped" game isn't anything special. Then you don't get a second chance. Anyways articles like this just don't need to exist...

Actually, the official definition of overhyped simply means...and I quote from an actual dictionary...instead of writing "overyhyped"... "To promote or publicize to excess." You don't have to release something for it to be over hyped.

U dont know if the games are being excessively publicized because we dont know if they were worth it in the first place since they are not out yet. They could be getting all the attention they deserve I think that MGS:Rising shouldnt be on their though its not hyped at all and I think it will be an average game from what I seen so far I loved MGS4 but rising doesnt look like my thing. All the other games are all highly anticipated games and I would buy all of them if I could.

Until something can be rated, you can't know if it's 'overrated'. Until something can rated, you can't know if that hype was justified or if it was 'overhyped'.

Playing games with those two terms to give this article validity is nonsense. The point it's a premature judgement - can't be anything but when the products aren't out - however you phrase what it's being premature about (the hype or rating). Validity of hype (rating) etc. is something that can only be judged sensibly, retrospectively.

I think KZ is important to sony for it to be a halo killer, but for its fanbase guys like us that play it and love it, it is a totally different game to Halo, so it doesnt need to be a halo killer, I loved kz2 not a fan of 1, and number 3 looks amazing. And imo I don't think its over hyped, when kz2 came out it was getting scores between 9 and 10 and imo it was worthy of that score. So I think kz3 will score well and I think ill love it as much as I loved the 2nd, but no I dont think its over hyped, I think the article is poorly written and his explanations as to why all those games are over hyped are pathetic, its like a 15 year old has written it.

Its funny how the only person to bring up the "halo killer" moniker is a member of the 1 bubble club.. I could care less how kz3 stacks up to halo.. I've never enjoyed halo so I dont even regard it in my evaluation of the killzone franchise.. Killzon3 looks to raise the bar yet again and I know that I'm going to lose a couple of months of my life into that game and thats all that matters to me.. You can keep halo 1-100...

Reality is, you can't tell if something is overhyped until it comes out. I don't expect Killzone 3 to revolutionize gaming and make me question my god but I know it's gonna be a damn fun and great game, same with the other games on this list. They all look like they'll be great games. I don't get how Twisted Metal is overhyped though.

Metal Gear Solid: Rising makes me mad. It's really, truly disgusting. I don't usually say that about games, but the concept of cutting people apart in slow motion for fun is sick to me. And Metal Gear Solid is far from a violent series, so to see it done in a Metal Gear game makes it even more wrong.

i certainly think they are. even if the game is great, its usually been overhyped for months and months by the rabid fanboys, especially on N4G. its all 'Killzone 2 has better graphics than Crysis on PC on High Settings' or 'God of War 3 is 25 hours of gameplay and uses 2456x MLAA' or 'MGS4 has better writing, directing and acting than *insert best Hollywood movie of all time*'.

fanboys overhype their consoles big games. it just so happens that coming from a console with an install base of 150+ million, sony and the PS3 have the most fanboys. therefore they overhype games the most, and they only overhype the exclusives because they cant be played on the competitions console, which they dont own anyway.

Will Killzone 3 be great? maybe. will it be overhyped even if it does turn out great? definitely.

Killzone 2, Uncharted, Uncharted 2, Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid 4, etc. i do all my multi-platform game playing on my 360, the PS3 is reserved for PlayTV and exclusives.

if youd actually read what i said in my original post, i wasnt saying that the PS3 exclusives are bad. i said that it doesnt matter how great they are - they could be right up there with the best games of all time - theyre still basically overhyped by the fanboys for the simple fact that theyre PS3 exclusives.

KZ3 is over hyped ? KZ2 was amazing. ....... KZ3 will be even better, then this NOOB said Twisted Metal is over hyped because car combat died. ...... as I can recall the original Twisted Metal team of 6 members died in a plane crash and no one else wanted to try to make Twisted Metal games until now, Twisted Metal is one of my fav franchises to be honest its not getting that much hype , and I'm glad duke nukem is back !!!!
