Joystiq: Call of Duty: Black Ops preview (now in 3D!)

Joystiq writes: "Call of Duty: Black Ops has joined the ever-growing list of 3D-enabled games, even though the required hardware remains prohibitively expensive to most. Unlike Sony's crop of flagship 3D titles, this isn't exclusive to any system. Activision recently demonstrated its high-profile first-person shooter running on Xbox 360 (it'll also be available on PS3 and PC), reminding us that 3D is a feature most HDMI-equipped systems can handle. (Previous 3D games for Xbox 360 include Invincible Tiger and Avatar.)"

Sony's gotta be happy about this, one of the biggest games of the year, pushing 3D...could mean more sales for their 3D tv's or hell their rivals, but ultimately it's pushing 3D TV sales.

Now the question will be, which one is better Killzone 3 in 3D or this?

raztad4969d ago

Yeah pretty sure Sony is loving this big time. Probably some haters will be converted, now one of the biggest games on the xbox is in 3D.

Cyrus3654969d ago

Ofcourse, people are hating on 3D cause it seemed like only a PS3 feature...well PS3/PC feature. Now it can be done on 360, i bet there isn't as much hate. Now they hate will go on the pricing of 3D Tvs.

Longrod_Von_Hugendon4969d ago (Edited 4969d ago )

So what happen to all the hate for 3D that we would read in almost every PS3/3D related announcement? Yeah, sour grapes at the time I guess. Welcome to the club xbox users, we've been waiting for you.

@paintsville below me

There are 24" 3D computer monitors which are extremely affordable so this notion that it's out of your price range is really a non issue. And if your serious about gameplay you're not playing on a 55" monster.

FrankDrebin4969d ago

Nonsense at this point and time. Complete waste of console performance. Moving on people...

erathaol4969d ago (Edited 4969d ago )

I've read dev articles that say 3D optimization actually improves the overall build of a game when running at non-3D TV's. I've heard this from Guerrilla Games and Housemarque, but what do they know about making good games?

paintsville4969d ago

Too bad that the majority of gamers won't be able to afford to shell out another 1500.00 for a 3d tv to replace the hdtv they just bought last christmas.

Cyrus3654969d ago

No 3D TV isn't appealing to the people who bought their HDTV last year, it's to the people who bought their HDTV 3-4 years or longer, who are on 60Hz TV's and are ready for an upgrade.

Ares84PS34969d ago

There isn't a better way to put this.

I got my HDTV in 2006. It's 1080p 60hz and this summer I got an LX900 Bravia and man....I'm loving it. Best investment so far.

raztad4969d ago

I'm on a 60Hz one. I have heard incredible stuff about motion flow tech (120+Hz) and now 3D, I want to experience that cool technology. My 3D tv set will be at home just in time for KZ3.

JeffGUNZ4969d ago

I just don't see 3D TV really taking off world-wide as quickly as some people here think. I got my HD LCD TV in 2007 and I am perfectly happy with it. I will only upgrade when my TV starts crapping the bed or begins to act funny. Personally, I have no interest in seeing anything in 3D, it just doesn't really appeal to me.

Also, Paintsville is correct, most people who buy TV's are buying them on black friday/holiday season. I don't know about you, but I can gurantee that the average consumer would feel more comfortable to purchase a 42' inch LCD HDTV at $600 then paying $1500+ for a 3D capable TV. I just don't see it happening.

I know some of us here are all about the latest technology, but most people arn't. A new HDTV is an upgrade for a majority of people.

HuGi4969d ago

Now some people will have online advantage because they can see in 3D... Oh Xbox Live where are u going at :/

AllroundGamer4969d ago

it's not like you could see behind corners with 3D on... or can you? :)

Rich16314969d ago

3D sucks horse gonads no matter how you slice it, in my opinion. Unless they develop a 3D TV without glasses, it is stupid as hell. There was a reason 3D died in the 80's, how/why it is making a return I don't know.

Anyway, props for Treyarch for including it for the peps who like it...shows they are really supporting the hell out of Black Ops.

HungPHATx4969d ago

Ya but this isn't steroscopic 3D ! It's BS 3D like Arkam asylum GOTY edition from what I can see , am I right or wrong guys ? Cause if it is full 3D support like KZ3 , GT5 , Hot Pursuit and so on , my Sony XBX LX900 will get some good use this year

raztad4969d ago

It is not BS 3D like in AA. It is a different implementation that doesnt require to render two independent images. Crytek announced something like this at E3. It is called Z-buffer 3D or something like that. If you believe previewers the implementation is "pretty cool" (GameInformer)

I find a little funny to see such enthusiasms, after all that "3D is not necessary" BS that most of the press kept regurgitating when only Sony games were on display. Well, that is life, This is a very positive step for 3D adoption.

JeffGUNZ4969d ago

Why does everyone thing think people changed their views, they haven't. Stop making it look like people didn't like 3D support because Sony was doing it for the PS3. That's not the case. Listen. I am a 360 ONLY user and I read the article it was on the 360 in 3D and guess what? I still don't give a crap and still care less about 3d Technology. It's not going to take off like everything thinks it will, definately won't take off ANYTIME SOON.

What I find funny, is people make fun of Kinect (which I am not purchasing at all until the price reduces 50%), saying they look stupid playing it, but these morons are the same people who want to wear 3D glasses while playing video games. You don't think those people will look stupid? If I put on 3D glasses to play a video game, my wife would rip into me like a monkey on a cupcake for being the worlds biggest nerd.

@JezzGun

"Why does everyone thing think people changed their views, they haven't."

Black Ops 1 Nuketown versus Cold War Nuketown '84

From DownSights: "Black Ops is not Black Ops without Nuketown. Following the tradition of releasing Nuketown for Black Ops games, the new Black Ops Cold War game also offers a revamped Nuketown called Nuketown '84.

Nuketown '84 has the same dimensions and map layout except for the aesthetics. The map's aesthetics have changed to fit the 80s theme, with destroyed buildings and graffiti-filled walls compared to a clean 50s suburban neighborhood seen in Black Ops 1."
