Enslaved vs Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow

This week's release slate represents one of the lesser-discussed - but by no means unimportant - battles of this year's gaming calendar: The war of the sleeper hits.

What the hell kinda crap is this? ROFL

Montrealien4957d ago

I know, I would be more interested in Castlevania vs God of war 3. I was very suprised by who damn good Castlvania looks on the PS3, it looks much better then Enslaved and is on par with God of War 3 imho.

BiggCMan4957d ago (Edited 4957d ago )

castlevania looks good no doubt, but saying its on par with god of war 3 though? i personally dont think so. anyways, i actually just finished the enslaved demo. it was alright, the gameplay was nothing more than good. but its the story that has me interested. i think the story looks like it will be really good. i will be looking forward to the castlevania demo in the store pretty soon though.

Simon_Brezhnev4957d ago

you must be playing it on a SDTV

execution174957d ago

but i gotta admit it looks pretty sweet, not GoW3 good but still pretty good non the less

AntoineDcoolette4957d ago

I think Lords of Shadow looks better than GoW3 in terms of art direction though not on a technical standpoint.

SaberEdge4957d ago

@Montrealien
I also thought it looked on par with God of War 3. I even popped in my copy of God of War 3 after playing it to make sure my memory wasn't failing me.

I think both games look better in certain ways. God of War 3 had the advantage though because I was able to see all the varied environments of the game, compared to the two small sections of Castlevania we got to see in the demo.

But just in terms of textures, lighting, character models, post processing effects, and so on, I thought they were showing a similar level of quality.

Who knows what my opinion will be once I play through the whole Castlevania game. I have seen an amazing diversity of locations in the trailers and gameplay vids.

MrMccormo4957d ago

On which console can you enjoy all three best 3rd-person action games (God of War 3, Enslaved, Castlevania: LoS) this year?

raztad4957d ago (Edited 4957d ago )

LoS is not even close to GoW3. Probably you just forgot how good GoW3 looks, give it a spin. I play the game till this day, it is clearly superior and has a much better framerate.

nycredude4957d ago

What is the framerate of Castlevania? Does it hit 60 fps? I heard it drops to 15 some times.

Montrealien4957d ago

I am playing the full game in 1080p on a 46", this game is on par with GoW 3.

Enslaved is getting more consistent positive praise where reviews seem to be looking for excuses with Castlevania. The game's longer because of tedious, badly designed puzzles and bad platforming segments that make up roughly half the game, that all reviews are calling shitty.

Neckbear4957d ago

And how do you know that is true, without playing the game yourself?

Also, the lenght is thanks to the variation of levels at hand.

In fact, reviewers only bitched about some puzzles and how they gave the answers to you (And even then, it wasn't all clear). That is all.

On the other hand, Enslaved seems to be a nice (but short) game.

Both games look good, but if you ask me, Castlevania looks like a better title.

I LOVE GAMES4957d ago

How about my big hard boot vs your soft fat ass.

gamerdude1324957d ago

This goes without saying for a nerdy fan of NES and SNES, but Castlevania all the way.

sarshelyam4957d ago

They may share a genre, but they're two entirely different games in context.

The both look great! I'm getting both, but I have to say I'm far more excited for Castlevania. I've had a number of opportunities to play the game (E3 and a few more recent convention/shows), and while Enslaved is certainly an enjoyable experience (from the similarly numerous demos I've played), Castlevania gets a few extra points for nostalgia, familiarity of franchise, and the talent behind it.

I just can't wrap my head around the fact that Enslaved should look better than NT's 4-year-old PS3 exclusive, Heavenly Sword. It doesn't...

etownone4957d ago

Does Heavely Sword really look better than Enslaved?
or is that the die-hard ps fankid in you talking troll?

I thought Enslaved looked really good, except for the dudes hair ....WTF?
And the story and cut-scenes are top-notch 2

WLPowell4957d ago

you can take off the tin-foil hat that everyone who thinks that is a ps fankid. NT's engine for Heavenly Sword worked better than Unreal Engine 3 worked here.

sarshelyam4956d ago

...the mo-cap is more smooth, the VO and paired lip-syncing is dead on (in HS), while slightly off here in Enslaved.

I only mentioned HS and the PS3 once in my entire post and never stated anything that would indicate which platform I'd buy it on. HS looks better, that's simply the fact of the matter etownone.

Baka-akaB4957d ago (Edited 4957d ago )

Castlevania all the way . There shouldnt even be a contest in sales imo given how meh Enslaved's gameplay is ... but either way i wont be surprised

Although being linear, which I wish it wasn't, the first game was absolutely incredible. A mix of old school God of War meets Date's Inferno; I was highly impressed by this title. I heard the sequel was trash so I ever played it but I think LoS was a good example of how a 3D CV game could be.

rgraf771303d ago (Edited 1303d ago )

I was very happy the game was Linear as I hate exploring. The first game was one of my all time favorites and the 2nd game was a total letdown with the lame hub system and stealth sections. Playing in current times sucked too. I wish they would make a remaster of part 1.

magdiellima1302d ago

Good as a game but terrible as a Castlevania. The sequence was even worse.

Terry_B1302d ago

It is a great game, but just like DMC is not a Devil May Cry..this one was not a Castlevania :-)

FreeckyCake1302d ago

Give Castlevania to Igarashi team, and they will nail it as they did with Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness.

Terrifyingly Bad: A Look Back At the 3D Castlevania Games

If you decide to play a Castlevania game, make sure it's in 2D. Unfortunately, the series has never been able to make the jump from 2D to 3D successfully. Publisher Konami has tried. Six times in fact, but whether trying to build it in-house or with a third party developer, they never captured the essence of the series or make a good game for that matter. So just to be sure you know what to look out for, here are the six 3D Castlevania games that have been made.

isarai1659d ago

I loved the hell out of lords of shadow, lords if shadow 2 had its moments but just didnt leave as much of an impact on me as the first did, still loved it though. They are both great games IMO, maybe not the best "Castlevania" games but great games in their own right.

RememberThe3571659d ago

Yeah that first game was legit good. Really wish they hadn't taken a step back for the second, this series really looked great in 3D.

AK911658d ago (Edited 1658d ago )

According to one of the former devs of Mercury Steam the higher ups kept interfering with the sequel to the point where the game was nothing like what the dev team had envisioned for the sequel so we got the mess that was Lords of Shadows 2.

PhoenixUp1659d ago

I enjoyed Lament of Innocence and Lords of Shadow. They were entertaining titles and I wouldn’t mind trying Lords of Shadow 2 on PS Now.

Just because a game isn’t GOTY worthy does not mean it’s not worth playing. You could do a lot worse than those exceptional titles.

Abcdefeg1659d ago

Curse of darkness was ahead of its time

Hedstrom1659d ago

I really liked lament of innocence and Lords of shadow! Havent tried the other 3d games. But ive played most of the 2d games!

gangsta_red1659d ago (Edited 1659d ago )

I don't know why Castlevania: Lament of Innocence gets a bad rap. It was one of the best in the series at that time and really was a compliment to the Devil May Cry 3rd person style of action that was getting popular at that time.

I rented it on a fluke and was seriously surprised on how good it was. So much so I went out and bought a used copy of Curse of Darkness and instantly returned that trash.

The problem with Nintendo 64 games is they all tried to mimic the Mario/Zelda 64 style of gameplay and how could they not with that whacky ass N64 controller. Almost every game outside of Nintendo's own felt horrible and incomplete.
