Top 5 Third Party Versions of Nintendo Franchises (That Would Kick Ass)

"So, Other M happened, we've all witnessed it. Some liked it, some didn't, even though the latter mostly liked Halo: Reach so I find myself dumbfounded when it comes to taking their opinion seriously (Less subtle: Other M is awesome). Back to the main point though... Did you ever wonder how some of the Nintendo franchises would look like if they were to be redone by a third party developer? Sure you did. Well, hop inside for a small list of games that, if released, would be classified as hazardous because they'd be able to blow your brains out."

Pokemon by Blizzard Entertainment... now that's a game I'd look forward too!

smoothdude4977d ago

Great article. It now has me thinking!!

qface644977d ago

i honestly wouldn't want any of those

Tony P4977d ago

The middle three are interesting thoughts, but tbh farming out Japanese franchises to Western devs hasn't worked well at all.

Also, I don't really care to have Team Ninja make a LoZ. It'd have action-packed battles, sure. But gore? Dismemberment? There's no real benefit to adding *any* of that. No one plays LoZ for the depth of the combat. That's not what the game is about.

If I had to choose a better Zelda dev, it would probably be Level-5.

the_Predator4977d ago

The idea wasn't to have blood and gore. Other M didn't have that in case you missed it. The idea is to have better combat and a more fleshed out, different approach to the story, again similar to Other M.

Tony P4977d ago (Edited 4977d ago )

He sure made it sound like that was a part of the idea:

"Link would finally expand his hobby of stabbing people in the forehead with the obligatory set of finishing moves involving various flavors of impalement and decapitation (violence is bad)."

And I also take issue with characterizing Team Ninja's approach to storytelling as some kind of dynamic event. It's just mission->cutscene->repea t, especially in the case of his example Ninja Gaiden.

I just don't see how LoZ benefits from basically donning Ninja Gaiden's clothes.

Tony P4977d ago

I thought that might be the case.

Maybe if Ninja Theory can make a decent DmC, I can say at least one Western dev got it right.

LoZ: Sigma? I still can't see it...

tony P, retro studios want to have a word with you...

Tony P4977d ago

Oh, sure Retro. Bang up work.

They can be the exception to the rule. Everyone else has to prove themselves thanks to studios like GRIN and Double Helix. If they want to have a word with me, I hope that word is "sorry".

StarFox X BioWare. Make it happen. the star fox universe needs to expand.

EYEamNUMBER14977d ago

meh i wouldn't like a star fox that's nothing but ground missions that's the only vibe i get from a bioware starfox

Loadedklip4977d ago

Bioware would make a good RPG around the Star Fox universe but I think we are all dying to see a TRUE Star Fox game already.

I vote for Treasure. But give them a big budget to make it happen.
Sin N Punishment was awesome.

fatstarr4977d ago

one of the cart wheels will have 1 billion polygons.. lol

kesvalk4977d ago

and you will have 10 types of the same kart

the kart GT, kart RX, kart nismo series and so on...

the_Predator4977d ago

It's interesting looking at the people who agree / disagree... People are really torn on this subject, but I suppose that's how it is. Please note that while the article is written in a humorous / satirical manner, the couplings are all meant serious.

SexyPrawns4977d ago

Naughty Dog does Mario
Team Ico does Zelda
Sony Santa Monica does Metroid

Do we really NEED anyone at Nintendo without the last name Miyamoto?

Disagree all you want. You KNOW Team Ico would make the Zelda team piss themselves.

Loadedklip4977d ago (Edited 4977d ago )

1st thing ... Eiji Aonuma would like a word with you as to who has been responsible for the Zelda games in the last decade.

and 2nd ... I love Ico ... think Shadow is great. Team Ico's best games ... still are not as good as the best Zelda games. Nothing to be ashamed of that, there aren't many games better than the best Zelda games.

So before you talk crap about how Team Ico is better than the Nintendo EAD Zelda team, realize that neither Shadow nor Ico have had the reviews nor the critical acclaim the Zelda series has had. ... oh and they don't age as well either. Go back and play them now to see what I mean.

"Do we really NEED anyone at Nintendo without the last name Miyamoto? "

Completly ignored the director of 3d zeldas,
All of retros staff,
all of Project Sora's staff,
Sakamoto,

and as a whole every nintendo employee involved in developing games.

Another L for Xbox, when are they going to have good news?

MrDead9d ago

I would read the article but the giant pop-ups from the top and bottom of the screen made me close it.

Without reading $23.4 million isn't a deterrent for a company that size.

Boss: Let's fire a few people to recoup on that loss.
Slave: Cortana has decided to get rid of Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks.
