Well it's about time they stopped with the spinoffs. Would like to see the story progress since the second one so hopefully this is true.

Come on Square-Enix, get your head out the gutter.

FiftyFourPointTwo4958d ago (Edited 4958d ago )

Parasite Eve 1 & 2 on PS, then 3rd Birthday drops on a handheld.
MML 1 & 2 on PS, then 3 was recently announced for the 3DS.
and now this? WTF?

But I highly doubt KH3D is the third main entry in the series. We'll probably see KH3 on a console by 2014.

PirosThe4th4958d ago

Lazy
I call...
Developing on portable platforms is cheaper and less time consuming since the current gen of consoles and hardware are really powerful and all the architectures are different...
focusing on a portable that is already going to be a great success is a great strategy... but the fans aren't going to be happy about it...
I rather have it on the ps3 or something...

Game-ur4958d ago

KH is having Tales syndrome, never on the same platform twice

badz1494958d ago

I will hate SE forever! this is their only game I ever play and enjoy, and now they're continuing it on 3DS?? that's like a slap in the face to the fans!

No, I want some KH3 on my PS3. Know what i'm sayin

Monkey5214958d ago

Sorry to burst the bubble, but it's not KH3. Here is an interview with 1up.

http://www.1up.com/news/e3-...

qface644958d ago (Edited 4958d ago )

you do realize this is from E3 right? and this new interview that this article is talking about is from 2 days ago

Monkey5214958d ago

And just over TGS he said he wasn't going to start KH3 for another year or two. What's your point? Do you think that he would suddenly change the entire direction of the game over the past 2-3 weeks when they have been working on this for more than half a year? Sure it's been done before but I don't see him making the 3rd Core Iteration of his love child on a hand-held device and completely isolate his core audience (on consoles)

qface644958d ago

he himself has said this CAN possibly be the next core iteration meaning they themselves haven't decided if it is or is not meaning it can or it can't be

you say core audience on consoles but considering an actual sequel to KH was made for the GBA and considering the millions they have sold on handhelds
there is about as much a core audience on consoles as on handhelds in fact KH3 logically should be made for the ps2 since that is where the core audience was right?

Monkey5214958d ago

"might be" I just think it's funny that in a recent interview, he would say that he is not doing KH3 til 2012, and talk about 3DS. BTW, here is another article from IGN (2 DAYS AGO) talking about this.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles...

I'm sure we could argue all day on whether or not this is KH3, but looking at the trailer for this game, it seems more like a spin-off than an actual sequel. (They are wearing KH1 clothing) I've been reading around, and most people have come to the conclusion that this is either what KH:CoM was to KH1 or it's a sequel to KH:BBS. Anyways, we can guess what we want, but we won't know until the formal announcement.

Why o why? Devs seem to be making the Dumbest descisions this Generation.

imoutofthecontest4958d ago (Edited 4958d ago )

Sadly, consumers are fueling them. They're working at their jobs just like anyone else. They have to follow the money just like any other business -_-
If a restaurant's best pie requires a lot more work and doesn't have as big of a profit percentage as other, cheaper pies...eventually that pie has a chance of being phased out. So sure, that place is "making a dumb decision" in the eyes of people who like that pie. But as far as the business goes...that's what's up. That's the economic decision they have to make.

It sucks, yeah. But when they're getting schloads of cash for this stuff, it's not unexpected. The handhelds are raking in huge cash for the KH series -- bigger than what a console version would bring in, considering the bigger production cost of a console version.

Case in point: http://n4g.com/news/609143/...
^ Helpless slaves lining up on day 1 to buy a cellphone port. Thanks for being part of the problem!

Blaster_Master4958d ago

LOL, thats funny. To say thats where all the money is when Squeenix hasn't even tried bringing KH or any AAA game on the ps3 (and no Star Ocean doesn't count considering that they pissed everyone off by bringing it to the 360 first, that and the game isn't AAA). How would they even know the game wouldn't sell if the only current gen systems they bring stuff out on is the 360 and the DS?

And yes what I say is fact because ps3 version of FF13 outsold the 360 version 3 to 1. Here's another fact for those of you that dont understand gamer logic. PS3 users love rpg's, especially last generation franchises.

EYEamNUMBER14958d ago

even 1 million copies sold on a handheld = more profit than 2 million sold on a console especially an HD console

lets face it here this is KH the game will sell good regardless of where it goes it just has more potential to make more money on a handheld

lets say 3 million copies sell that's more profit than selling 4-5 million on a console

they chose handhelds because more money can be made off em

Godmars2904958d ago

Its not just money, but effort as well.

Might think that boils down to money as well, but it also includes lazy, unimaginative game making. Making Front Mission a shooter instead of a STG for example

Troll-without-Bridge4958d ago

The funny thing is Birth by sleep is on the psp and yet its the best Kingdom hearts ever made.

Godmars2904958d ago

But does it reuse an old game engine?

LarsoVanguard4958d ago

I just finished Birth by Sleep on my third playthrough, it's good, but definitely not the best Kingdom Hearts game.

KratosGirI4958d ago

If this turns out to be true, people are gonna be P.I.S.S.E.D.

EYEamNUMBER14958d ago

yet the game will still sell millions what does that tell you?

KratosGirI4958d ago

I'm the person who doesn't really give a rat's butt on what console the sequel appears on. As long as it's real.

Case in point: Megaman Legends 3.

Naughty Dog4958d ago

I hope this is a silly rumor.

Just a random thought, maybe it has 3 playable characters.

knightdarkbox4958d ago (Edited 4958d ago )

Kingdom Hearts is easily one of the most milked franchises in this gen. At this point in time this game is the one that is leaving a greater sour taste in my mouth tho, do to SE recent fail strategy this gen...

Kingdom Hearts Is Too Hard To Get Into

Trying to break into Kingdom Hearts is a nightmare.

wwinterj117d ago

Play the first game. That is a simple enough story to get into the series.

Crows90116d ago

Was going to say the same. It's really not hard to get into.

Hofstaderman117d ago

My advice; play the games in release order. Alot of people say story chronological order but that can be really confusing. Trust me.

Inverno117d ago

Read the manga, story makes more sense there.

-Gespenst-117d ago (Edited 117d ago )

I think a problem that SE is going to run into (or already has run into) with this series is that a lot of the people still following it were kids / teens when they played the first one, and are now much older. I know I'm finding it increasingly hard to tolerate the childishness of some of the stuff in these games, and I'm sure there are plenty of original players who have since just stopped following the series for this reason. I can't count the number of times I was playing KH3 and just feeling like, "What the f*** am I doing?"

SE can keep the series PG-13, and try to get a new audience of kids, but how do they intend to get kids into a series with a story that has been expanding since 2002, and over the course of like a dozen games? Especially when there are already loads of newer franchises out there that have already pretty much cornered the kids / teens market.

Honestly, I think they should either end the series once and for all, or take it in a more mature direction, and ditch the Disney stuff (I know, unpopular opinion, probably). It is a series that hasn't really grown with its audience, I feel. Alternatively, they could try to steer it in a more all-ages Studio Ghibli direction, sort of like Final Fantasy.

banger88116d ago

I felt this way with KH3 as well, ended up dropping it around half way through. I won't even bother with KH4.

CS7116d ago

Same here. Kingdom Hearts 3’s dialog was way to childish for me and I only played just to finish the story and wrap up the near 15 year wait.

I doubt I would be buying any other games unless they go in a more mature (all-ages) direction as OP said.

jambola116d ago

It doesn't help with Sora's loud stretched out constant yelling either

smashman98116d ago

you gotta remember Disney has to sign off on everything they do with KH. Disney is super protective of their IP,

Either way I don't disagree with you on a lot of this stuff becoming more and more of an issue. But it's okay that fans grow out of things like this. But if they do decide to keep it more for the young audience then they will have to solve the problem that the article mentions.

-Gespenst-116d ago

Yeah, I just don't know what they could do to get all the kids invested in it at this stage. The only thing I can think of is a total reboot, but that would be an enormous project, and they clearly have no intention of doing it. I mean, the series has just embarked upon another "saga", which, if it's anything like the last "saga", will take another 2 decades to complete, will consist of 6+ games, and will convolute the overall narrative even further (if that's even possible). It seems to me that, if this is SE's plan, and if they want people to still care about the series in 5-6 years time, then their only real option is to try to appeal more to a non-adolescent audience. Otherwise, the kids won't care because they won't have a clue what's going on, and the adults won't care because the series is too childish.

Having said all that, the Yozora stuff, and the footage we've seen from KH4, does seem to MAYBE indicate that the series is going in the direction I'm talking about, but it's too early to say for sure. KH4 might look completely different the next time we see it, knowing SE.

Crows90116d ago

Kingdom hearts 3 is horrible ..that's why you felt that way. It's the worst in the series by far.

FinalFantasyFanatic116d ago

My issue is with the decline of the writing which has been an issue for Square-Enix games across the board. KH3 should have gone out with a bang and felt very satisfying, but instead it was like a wet tissue and left feeling like I missed a lot of content. Having said that, KH3 was probably the last KH game I'll purchase.

Rainbowcookie116d ago

Im playing 3 as my first one and I got that same feeling. Enjoying the variety and combat but im not into the story...too confusing.

Indeed. If you wanna give it a try, just go with 1-3. The other games are unfortunately needed to know but you can just youtube all the cutscenes by order of release of each game.

8 Best Games Set In A Multiverse

One of the biggest TV and movie tropes in the last decade has been the multiverse, the idea of exploring multiple dimensions to uncover alternate versions of existing ideas. From both a business and creative perspective, it makes sense why established franchises are shaking things up in this way.

However, there aren't many video games latching on to this trend, as rendering multiple worlds in real-time is a difficult feat and the medium is relatively young in comparison to its contemporaries, making crossover opportunities more difficult. Still, there are a few great titles that manage enough to overcome these challenges, and here are some of the best examples.

While I love someone mentioning Planescape, not really multiverse. Planes and dimensions, yes. But, they are typically their own locations and are very rarely tied to another 'verse' let alone another plane. The only things that are directly tied are the ethereal and material planes. Otherwise, they are dimensions created of their own design and goals by the creator/owner and not comprised of 'their own version of another dimension'.

Final Fantasy XVI Combat Owes A Lot To Kingdom Hearts Staff

NP: “When I played through Final Fantasy XVI, I occasionally found what I believed to be evident Kingdom Hearts gameplay inspirations that I’d rather not detail here due to spoilers. Still, with it having been previously confirmed that Kingdom Hearts staff was working on this title, the notion wasn’t all that surprising.

However, I didn’t realize how truly instrumental Kingdom Hearts team members were in developing Final Fantasy XVI. After digging through the title’s credits, I found crucial Kingdom Hearts development staff who played significant roles in ensuring the combat design excelled.”
