No story in Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit

Unlike EA's recent Need For Speed outings, the forthcoming Hot Pursuit will feature no narrative in the single player mode, developer Criterion has revealed.

I found the stories in the need for speed games to be quite boring.

Blinding_Solo4965d ago

I found stories in NFS really dull and not needed. I just want to race and get cars in a racing game. Stories in a racing game just seem to not be right for me.
@alphakennybody Burnout Paradise was a perfect arcade racer to me. No racing game needs a story unless its a game based on a movie like The Fast and The Furious or something but we know that will be garbage.

alphakennybody4965d ago (Edited 4965d ago )

open world with no story? fuck that... reason why I didn't bother with burnout paradise. It just feels bleak when you make a open world game without somekind of story.

poindat4965d ago (Edited 4965d ago )

I feel that in a racing game, a story only cheapens it. All I need personally to enjoy a racing game is an environment and a car. Anything else such as a story is superfluous, IMO. It's not why I'm driving that matters, but how and where.

Here's the story... RACE!

It's the other way around for me, if they shoe horn a story in and remove some of the fun ( GTA IV ) then I don't have fun. But with Red Faction: Guerilla I could tell from the start it wasn't about the story and the game basicallly said.

'BLOW STUFF UP! BLOW EVERYTHING UP!' And that's what I did and it was FUN...

Redempteur4965d ago

????story ??? open world ? what happenned to driving and exploring ..??

WildArmed4965d ago

I disagree.
I thought Burnout Paradise was the best Open world arcade racer i've played..
It even beat out NFS:MW (which was my all time fav.).

While I do appreciate a story of some sort, I appreciate game play a lot more.

Yay! I never liked need for speed story mode.

chasegarcia4965d ago

I hope that I can atleast see a person driving the damn car. That is the biggest reason i did not buy the last burnout game.

Looking Back to Two of Need for Speed's Best Games - Most Wanted and Hot Pursuit

Paul writes - "EA know a good thing when they see it, and for multiple years November was Need for Speed month. In a break from the usual routine, I'm going to be looking back at two games here, released in 2005 and 2010 respectively. The earlier game is Need for Speed: Most Wanted, which has the distinction of being one of the very best in the franchise. The second game comes from 2010, and is Need for Speed Hot Pursuit; which I'll talk about just as the Remastered version of the game has hit the stores."

Hotpursuit 2 was good as well.

The-Matrix-has-you155d ago (Edited 155d ago )

I completely adore this game! In fact its probably my favorite racing game. I recently dusted off my xbox 360 to play Most Wanted 2005. Still a great game, though I do not remember there being such horrible performance. Like massive frame-pacing issues. screen tearing, latency. If any game ever truly needed to be remastered, it this one for sure!

Uuuu, I loved this one. I want it.

LucasRuinedChildhood1308d ago

No NFS released since Hot Pursuit (2010) has came close. The Ghost Games NFS games were just dreadful (to me they were anyway, 2015 was okay I suppose). Would love to replay this and I hope it has an update for next-gen as well.

DarkZane1308d ago (Edited 1308d ago )

I loved Most Wanted as well (on PS3, I think it released in 2012). After that, it has gone downhill, but the latest games are slowly coming back up. I loved NFS Heat, but it needs to get better before it comes back to same level as NFS Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted.

Then again, NFS Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted were likely better because they were from Criterion (in fact, those were the last 2 games from criterion in nfs series).

LucasRuinedChildhood1308d ago

@DarkZane
complete agree. Most Wanted was good fun as well.

boing11308d ago

Yeah, Criterion has made two best NFS games in my opinion.

georeo1308d ago

Oh yes! They cops vs the drivers online was a blast.

LucasRuinedChildhood1308d ago

Better be 60FPS unlike the original console ports.

Sgt_Slaughter1308d ago

I would be excited but NFS is basically dead in the water at this point, a shell of its former self.
