IGN: Dead Rising 2 Review

IGN writes: "Dead Rising 2 is good. Very good, in fact. I felt like I needed to get that out right away. See, a few weeks ago I previewed the first two days of the game, and I found a title that was chugging in spots, suffering from really long loads, and generally not performing like a game that was about to come out. I reported that Capcom said it was aware of the issues and working to fix them, but even I rolled my eyes at the idea of the company getting everything in line for launch day. Well, it's not perfect and it is rough around the edges here and there, but Dead Rising 2 is definitely a winner".

Not bad, but I was expecting a better score.

Jamegohanssj54968d ago

Nice. I wonder what the score would have been if they were still using the old system. 8.7ish? Anyway I've been waiting for Dead Rising 2 forever, so it's going to be good anyhow.

That's pretty much what I expected. The first game got high praise, because it was something new.

MisterNiwa4968d ago

Dead Rising 2 is Dead Rising only 2,5x better. The Combo Card System really rocks the house.
I already played the hell out of it, since my local game store of choice had it leaked 5 days before the release. :D

darkziosj4967d ago

the game is awesome if you liked the first one, this one is not a disapointment

Christopher4968d ago

I honestly wasn't. The game really hasn't evolved at all and still has many flaws, IMHO.

Gago4968d ago

thats it

im preordering

skynidas4968d ago

So when IGN says 10 you say what? 11?

Elvfam5114968d ago

I say masterba... Sex yeah....

FwanK4968d ago

If they say 11 i say Metal Gear

Naughty Dog4968d ago

If IGN says 8, it's really a 7... :/

Eamon4968d ago

kinda what I was thinking. I think other reviewers criticised DR2.

jack_burt0n4968d ago

If IGN says review, I say worthless random number give me a demo.

Rybakov4968d ago

its called case zero it is also a prequel

Shepherd 2144968d ago (Edited 4968d ago )

Not that it matters, but PS3 didnt get Case Zero, in case he has a PS3.

StanLee4968d ago

I think you've got it backward bud; If IGN says it's an 8, it's really a 6. IGN has been on of the most generous review sites this generation.

vickers5004967d ago

Sorry, but Game Informer holds the title of most generous reviews this gen.

BkaY4968d ago

lol

OT: from the vid i have seen its a solid 8 or 8.5 ... but i will reserve my opinion until i try it my self

peace

vhero4968d ago

Yeah I was watching a live stream the other night on justin.tv the loading times look annoying as hell and he had it installed to his 360 hard drive. They were over 20 seconds.

TheColbertinator4968d ago

Good review for DR2.The first one was awful.Hoping DR2 cleans up the first one's issues

YoshiMeetsU4968d ago (Edited 4968d ago )

First one rocked! If you didn't like the first you will more than likely not like the second. It's basically the same with Bathroom saves and a constant ringing cellphone.

One big positive is the survivor AI they are much better and will fight along with you and actually will keep up with you and have better balanced health.

Tip though, if you have a survivor spam the Y button(I think triangle on PS3) and continue telling them to hurry up and catch up. If you don't they will fall behind and if you have to pass through a door you have to wait for them.

Another thing I find annoying is the voice acting and the fact that Fortune City is just Willamete Mall reskinned for the most part with a couple new additions.

Parapraxis4968d ago

Not too surprised. It's a good series, but far from great.
A 7/10 would have most likely been more accurate.
After a week we'll see how far I'm off, but I have a strong feeling I'm pretty spot on.

What Happened To The Dead Rising Series?

Over the last week, Jake has been going back to the Dead Rising 2 Off The Record remaster and has been an absolute blast. When he was 15 he first got his Xbox 360 and Dead Rising with it, it was unlike any other experience. It made him wonder though, what happened to the Dead Rising series.

Interesting timing. This retrospective was released just a few days ago: https://youtu.be/Et-cKSrWuc...

Darksonic221365d ago

Ah no, I just felt like writing it as I started playing the game again and wanted to offer up my opinions 😁

InklingGirl1365d ago

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the title.

MadLad1365d ago

Complacency and new teams who didn't understand what made the series special.

Darksonic221365d ago

Seems like there was just a ton of infighting aswell and so many more issues. Honestly sadly Dead Rising 5 before it was cancelled sounded nothing like dead rising, nothing learnt from. Dr4 at all.

ColdSin1365d ago

DR4 should have not been made anyways. DR3 closed everything nicely.

darthv721365d ago

Check out the vid i posted above.

MadLad1365d ago

They're a solid channel. I always click on their vids, unless it's a series/game I simply have no interest in.

RamRod881365d ago

They took away the depth and charm of the game that made it fun and interesting, and made it into a generic zombie killing game.

DeadManMMX1365d ago

This was the series the got me to buy an Xbox 360. The first one was so good. It still had horror elements. As it went on it became kind of a parody. Never forget getting Zombie Genecider achievement and then restarting the game to get the Mega Buster. That thing was monstrous against enemies.

Gamerking821365d ago

But you never know it might be RISING again someday .

moriarty18891365d ago

haha yes it may....good one.

The paddle bat and string ball from Fallout should be considered too.

Chaos_Order1428d ago

I would've included Tira's ring blade from Soul Calibur.
