Halo Killers Have Very BIG Shoes To Fill

OXCGN:

"What does Halo: Reach mean for Xbox 360 fans? For FPS games in the future? For future Multiplayer titles that wish to cram as much content onto one disc as Halo: Reach has done?

It means that anything from this day forward will have some pretty big shoes to fill if they want to be even remotely labeled as the Halo Killer- a title that has been floating around since Killzone was revealed and released for the Sony Playstation 2."

Belgavion4999d ago

Seems I'm the only person on my friends list not playing this today! So much content on one disc though - it's scary.

And to those that say you can't fit much on the DVD9's here's the proof that you can when you code correctly and use your brains instead of trying to show off on how big you can make a game.

You only have to look at The Orange Box by Valve to see that a great deal can be squeezed onto one of the discs, with still room to spare.

I think the next few days, 80% or more XboxLive users will be Halo-bound.

who cares about killer this, killer that; as long the game is great who gives a sh*t. KZ2 was great, MWs were great why in the hell does a game have to kill another or fill its shoes.

people in media, and fanboys have nothing better to do with there time it seems. just enjoy your game and stop trying to cause fanboy battles.

I think Bungie have said goodbye in a great way with this, the last real iteration of the Halo franchise as we knew it.

WHile it certainly won't be the end of the franchise per-se, it will be the end as we have known it over the last 10 yrs.

It certainly is going to boost online figures for both Bungioe and MS Live, that is for sure. But it will be interesting to see where Microsoft takes it in a year or two from now.

WildArmed4999d ago

Indeed.
But I'm curious to see what way Halo is headed as it is.
With Bungie bringing their 'A-game' to Halo Reach, I honestly think that there is nothing they didn't put on that disc that they wanted to.
So imho, it's a good time for Bungie to move on.
And let's hope the new studio can breathe some new life into the franchise.
Because Bungie has literally done everything you could ask for in an FPS.

Improving upon such a game is quite a burden. Hopefully the new dev team is up to the challenge.

Idk... I'm kinda afraid of what happened with the SOCOM series, happening with the Halo series. I'm sure everyone by now knows what happen with Confrontation for PS3 and how the game was NOT made by Zipper (made by Slant Six) and ended up being the one of the worst games ever made at launch. I'm not saying Halo is going to become another Confrontation, but people have to remember that the next one will not be made by Bungie. I can keep going but too tired to do so, and I'm sure people get my point...

Then again, the majority of the people buying the next Halo probably wont even know that it wasn't made by Bungie, so who knows... Only time will tell.

WildArmed4998d ago

Yeah, people are more into franchise recognition vs developer.
So if they see a Halo game, (take Halo Wars for example) they assume it's going to be awesome. Since most people don't give the developers any thought.

But more educated gamers do know that it's the developers who make the game good, not that fact it's already an established franchise.

I wasn't a fan of ODST at all. This one looks to be much better and is getting great reviews everywhere I look. I'm sure someone will find something negative to say, but great way for Bungie to end their association.

DelbertGrady4999d ago

I wasn't thrilled with ODST either, apart from firefight mode. This one is a different beast though. It draws you in and never lets go.

Btw, does anyone know if it's possible to play firefight mode with people outside your friends list this time around? I hated that restriction in ODST.

SixZeroFour4999d ago

there is matchmaking for firefight, so yea...theres also matchmaking for campaign aswell

BadCircuit4999d ago

I'm starting this soon but have to finish some stupid homework: my dad got me the game and LE controller which looks amazingly cool (he's got the LE console and it does look really really good).

Godem4999d ago

i want to play it... but i have so much uni work!!! I bet it wont be as good as Halo 1 tho

Twitter is blowing up right now

All games coming to PlayStation
Next Xbox will have steam
Next Xbox niche and only for “gamers who want it” (it’s a really powerful pc or a steam deck type portable, or both)

Well, 4-Infinite dropped the ball massively so don't worry.

Sgt_Slaughter91d ago (Edited 91d ago )

Not really. 4, 5, MCC, and Infinite are only remembered for their shortcomings and failures when the franchise was purely known for being a system seller and an all-time great. There's a reason 1, 2, 3, and Reach are looked back on fondly, and it's not because of nostalgia.

FinalFantasyFanatic91d ago

I don't know of anyone that speaks fondly of the later Halo games, I would like to play 5, but I know it's not good, and I'm just waiting on Infinite to hit my strike price. I played MCC a lot later after it came out, so must of those bugs/issues were gone by the time I played it.

To say it dropped the massively is just not true. Many in the community hold H5 as the best mp mechanics in the entire series and say its what 4 should've been. Its campaign was trash but the MP is Fantastic and many faces of the community still play today and it only made 500mill in the matter of months but sure it dropped the ball massively. 4 was hated due to all the changes at once. And CoD like feature and rightful get hate but it's campaign story was liked by a majority of ppl. 343 hasn't nailed ot 100% but they get 1 thing perfect but F up in other places. Infinite had a good campaign and design but the story was a mess. The MP improves upon what Halo 3 was and is what many ppl wanted to go back to but it lacked content severely. So massively aint the word. Dropping the ball massively is when it's pure trash and unplay/unenjoyable. Most ppl blind by nostalgia so soon as 1 thing aint the same its hated cause Halo set the bar so high
FYI reach was not that good.

Dead IP, time to invent something new.

kaos8992d ago

Maybe they can have ID or one of the COD studios help 343 with this series.
