PlayStation Turns 15: Best Crash Bandicoot Commercials (RunDLC)

Although Mario and Sonic grab most of the headlines, Crash Bandicoot made a huge impact on the gaming scene, at least in the 90s. For a while, the adorable hero was Sony’s unofficial mascot, back when Naughty Dog released hit after hit. He’s nowhere near as popular, but since the PlayStation turns 15 this year, we decided to take a fond look back at the character’s memorable commercials, starting with…

I remember when that Nintendo HQ one came out and I was young enough to think "how dare Sony! How dare it!" haha

Ok what ever happened to this character? I remember when I was a kid I thought it was just a sony deal but a couple of years ago I remember seeing him on multiple consoles. Did naughty dog sell the franchise or did they never own it?

Not sure...Sony may have owned the IP, but I can't imagine them just handing the character to someone else, so something happened. Probably a similar situation with Insomniac and Spyro.

universal owned the ip, they just had exclusivity for psx

Love the Nintendo one. :D

It's definitely Crash's shining moment...and a master stroke by Sony when it needed to reach gamers.

That commercial with the music at the end just made me make room on my memory stick and download the original to my psp for another playthrough. The Naughty Dog Crash games had amazing music and level design. My favorite platformers of all time.

NaughtyDog's Crash Bandicoot was the best platform game ever,it's sad that they sold the game's rights.Big Mistake.

TheLastGuardian4987d ago

Yea If Naughty Dog would have kept making Crash games he would have been Sony's mascot for sure.

Travellers Tales did well, as soon as it went to Activision and Radical, that's where it started messing up. Wrath of Cortex and Twinsanity were fairly faithful games both by TT after ND. I hate all this 'Titan rubbish. Just give me sidescrolling, running away, warp rooms, crystals, gems and smashing boxes.
It's time for a digital download Crash Bandicoot title and I really hope they'll stop reinventing him and redesigning all the characters. Plus karting games which DON'T compare to the original CTR.

Agree. Travelers tales did a pretty good job with the Crash IP,Radical on the other hand destroyed everything i loved about Crash with those titan games.

I have huge nostalgia for Crash Bandicoot. The original was one of my first games I ever played. I've only played the first 7 games and Crash Bandicoot Warped is my favorite in the series and my favorite PS1 game. I am still really bummed that Naughty Dog sold the rights to Crash. If I had one wish for a game to be made it would be that Naughty Dog buy back the rights to Crash and Make a game for the PS3 but I doubt that will happen. I'm such a big Crash fan I own all the PS1 games on disc and I still bought them on the PS store so I can play them on psp. I've boughten Crash Bandicoot 3 Warped 4 times because I lost my first 2 copies and bought it for a 4th time on the ps store.
