John Marston kicking Dante's ass. Sweet. =D

Quagmire4992d ago (Edited 4992d ago )

LMFAO, taking it a little further than expected, here, have a bub, courtesy of the Q.

But seriously, as if DMC4 wasnt dissapointment enough, now they gonna westernise a japanese game.

About as logical as trying to make Bieber a ganster, just aint gonna happen.

MisterNiwa4992d ago

How silly.

Devil May Cry is a Japanese Game? The Game has western all written over it.
Hideki Kamiya reached with Devil May Cry into the west.
Even the original Dub is english.

So where is this game japanese?

Get your head out of your ass.

TotalPS3Fanboy4992d ago (Edited 4992d ago )

Yep. Exactly.

The game isn't even Japanized to begin with. Now, they're gonna Westernize it? That's like taking a Westernized game like Dante's Inferno and trying to Westernize it again. Really, how does that even work? Turn Dante into a bulky space marine?

bakasora4992d ago

Just don't forget your root.

mastiffchild4992d ago

Whatever, Bayonetta was the spiritual sequel DMC3 needed and not the drudge fest of DMC4. Kamiya did what Capcom couldn't and didn't DMC5 has to be a reboot but westernizing a game in love with the west already? WTF?

Bayonetta had all the daft verve and vigour we expect of a DMC game while DMC4 had little to offer and ended as a run through the same bosses twice as if to outline just how dry the ideas had run. Look to Kamiya's efforts and adapt them rather than look for western ideas that won't fit into a game rich in western references without seeming shoehorned in at this point.

They need to hit me with something never done before to get me back into the DMC fever.

Snakefist304992d ago (Edited 4992d ago )

Y dont they give DMC IP to Santa Monica. They are king of Hack and Slash now.

I second the rolling over and dying of Snakefist. I'll take Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden black and DMC1 over any God of War game.

sikbeta4992d ago

Rip DMC.... meh ... it was dead when DMC4 came out...

rezzah4992d ago

They just need to bring Virgil back (and kill Nero and his love life) and then all Hell will break loose!

Kain814992d ago

this is the problem, which i tried to explain in the other article

japanese devs westernizing thier games? BAD IDEA

I think thats what FF13 suffered from too much western influence.

To me it seems japanese devs have lost thier way this gen.....mostly

Chris3994992d ago (Edited 4992d ago )

And yet you have staunchly Japanese devs like Level 5 cranking out anime, puzzle games (Layton) and very traditional JRPGs (Dragon Quest) with WORLDWIDE APPEAL, critical acclaim and astonishing sales, who continue to rake in money and consumer support year after year. Nintendo is another good example of this. The concepts behind their games are quite alien to the Western mindset. Plumbers and princesses? Whatever the f!ck Kirby is? These ideas are distinctly foreign and Japanese in their curiosity, yet the world loves them anyhow.

It's no secret who has the recipe down (Level 5, Nintendo, Sony) and who is just flailing (SE, Capcom, Namco-B) at the Western audience. In a way it's almost insulting that Westerners are shoe-horned into these boxes of what we're "supposed" to like - guns, tits, burly men - and spoon-fed content that is only appealing to the average 15 year old. Something can be "childish" and still intriguing to adults (Pixar or Miyazaki films, for example, a good example of both Western and Eastern content that fits this bill).

Chris3994992d ago (Edited 4992d ago )

And WKC did well enough to warrant a sequel. It was one of the best selling home console JRPGs released in Japan this gen. It was also Level 5's first outing on "next gen" hardware and pretty damn ambitious. Regardless, a portable is STILL a console, whether you think so or not. It doesn't diminish their success simply because the games weren't in HD.

As far as Sony, well, they ARE a Japanese company and they have backed some incredible games and talent of a Western Nature. So I'm not really sure what your point is. At least they understand that if they can't do it themselves, then get other people who know what they are doing and give them creative reign. And if you need a few "successful" titles, Demon's Souls (made in conjunction with SCEJ), EchoChrome and Patapon come to mind.

BrianB4992d ago

the 1st 3 were great games that the west enjoyed i don't see the point of this, its kinda patronising to western gamers

Immortal3214992d ago

it's ganna have a "cover system" isn't it?

it gets worst.

it's ganna have a tapped on multiplayer.

that's not it.

The story is ganna be completely irrelevant.

they're ganna use words like fun or fun like words to blind most kids in American.

Trying to PLEASE THE WESTern Audience too much.

Isnt that One of the Main problems with the Japanese Devs we were just discussing about in that earlier article? It's one of the big problems with Devs like Square. BUT THiS isnt automaticaly a bad thing. There's great Western devs and I wouldnt mind DMC taking a few cues from games like GoW or Japan's own Bayonetta in the fighting deparment. If they fix that a little bit the game should be Good.

No new Character like NERo aswell that made the game even worse

CBaoth4992d ago (Edited 4992d ago )

Console development has stagnated in the East due to the popularity of handhelds. Instead of pushing the envelope, they've rested on their laurels. Producing cheap, low-quality shovelware with 2D sprites (ya know games I played 20 years ago on consoles) doesn't help anywhere but their bottom line.

Storylines have always been cliched, predictable, and convoluted but it's really grown out of control this gen too. I've had far too many WTF moments this gen playing Eastern games. Adding insult to injury, most Japanese would rather play online with a little 3" screen than a HDTV. Don't know about you but I'm sick of a stiff neck playing them little bastards.

I love JRPGs and mechs as much as the next guy, but I can't help feeling disappointed by the East this gen. I feel sorry for the Japanese game companies. They're really in a conundrum - make crappy HH games that sell in the East but get largely ignored in the West. Get further behind the technological 8-ball if you will. Or push the envelope, risk a commercial failure in the East on a console but hope it sells better in the West. It's almost as if they're forced to cater to 2 completely different demographics now.

Immortal3214992d ago

I don't want to see anything God of war in devil may cry. DMC is it's own game.

Optical_Matrix4992d ago

And there goes my hype for Devil May Cry 3. Watch when they add more emphasis on the shooter machinics and tack on a random cover system out of nowhere. For christs sake Capcom. Open your damn eyes!

Redempteur4992d ago

i can reassure you devil may cry 3 is a good game ( a little hard at times )

DMC 5 however ...

mjolliffe4992d ago

Surely though, if it was THAT GOOD a game, it would do pretty decently in the west? Sure, it won't sell like GTA, but if it really is that good it'll sell well?

Optical_Matrix4992d ago (Edited 4992d ago )

Well across Xbox 360 and PS3, DMC4 sold around 3 million altogether. And that was when neither system had that big of an install base. If the game was released now I'd reckon it'd sell a good 3.5/5 million. I don't see why they're crying about the sales.

EDIT: In my above post I meant Devil May Cry 5, not 3 lol wtf

MaideninBlack4992d ago

Maybe they're crying about sales on the "western console."

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC14d ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Exvalos13d ago

What a weird name, it's essentially devil may cry, devil may cry lol

Cacabunga13d ago

Best to good for me: 3, reboot, 1, 5

2 and 4 are trash, didnt like any of them.
5 has very good gameplay variety but i hated the foes.. it is just insects the whole time. Reboot has the best foes for me

Friendlygamer14d ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

monkey60214d ago (Edited 14d ago )

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya13d ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde13d ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

SeTTriP13d ago

This right here is my order as I thought DMC 5 was amazing and obviously 3 comes after 4 was great and 1 for the nastilgic value it holds 2 was so terrible that my local GameStop gave full refunds to people who returned it.
