First PlayStation Move games' reviews!

In the latest issue of biggest selling Polish video game magazine - PSX Extreme - we find reviews of Sports Champions, Kung Fu Rider and Start the Party. Since Sports Champions got 8+/10, other two scored much less - respectively 6+/10 and 5-/10.

In the PlayStation Move's test author claimed that there is no need to buy navi controller - Sixaxis/Dualshock may be used the same way. What's more, we can connect only 4 motion controllers at once (or just two sets motion controller + navi).

YES! sports champions comes with the bundle.

handheldwars4992d ago (Edited 4992d ago )

So does Wii sports!

IMHO we need to forget "move" and gimmicky motion controls.. What we need is Gran Turismo 5, played with the DualShock controller.

nycredude4992d ago (Edited 4992d ago )

Handheldwars

And that is precisely what you will get when Gt5 releases, so what was your point? That Move will keep you from playing games with a Dualshock?

Personally I prefer using my G25 to play GT5 but hey that's just me...

BeaArthur You can't seriously believe what you are saying. If anything MS is focusing on Kinect way more than Sony on Move. Where are all teh exclusive in MS's camp not name Halo and Gears and Fable? Come on you really think Gt5 steering wheel or DS3 gameplay will suffer because of Move? I don't even think Gt5 can be played with Move.

Also I believe GG and Socom developers already stated it is easy to incoporate move code to existing games. It's like having a choice of controller or mouse on PC games.

ian724992d ago

What we need is GT5, played with Logitech steering wheel and pedals, not DS3.

WhittO4992d ago (Edited 4992d ago )

Last I checked you are still getting Gran Turismo 5 to play with the DS3 controller aren't you?

It's all about choice, you can choose to ignore Move and not buy it, since games like Killzone 3 & Motorstorm can still be played with a DS3 OR Move controller.

Don't understand how it is affecting the games you want to play?

Alot of people like Move (including me) since it is not gimmicky when you are playing real games like Dead Space or Infamous with it.

It is just another input method, that is all.

BeaArthur4992d ago

nycredude...no it won't but there is that fear that Sony will push this so hard that those of us who choose to use the DS3 will have to deal with sub-par gameplay because all of the developers for first party games are forced to think Move first.

Montrealien4992d ago (Edited 4992d ago )

I think what he meant was that Sony and MS should concentrate on real games like GT5 and Halo using the classic tried and true controllers rather then playing catch up to Nintendo, and I kind of agree with him. No need to get all defensive about this.

don`t get me wrong, I will get a move bundle and kinect, however I do hope that in the long run Sony and MS do not forget us in this casual attack.

WhittO4992d ago (Edited 4992d ago )

Sony has been concentrating on GT5 for like 4-5 years lol.

Have they dropped the game or give it no PR at all? Don't know where all of these gameplay videos and info are coming from then..

Sony is a huge company, I'm sure it can handle amazing games (Infamous 2, Killzone 3, Motorstorm Apocalypse, Socom 4, GT5, Resistance 3...) AND Move at the same time lol.

People act like Sony has no games coming out (like MS), they do, and lots of them!

Montrealien4992d ago (Edited 4992d ago )

what are you talking about whitto? Am I not allowed to have these concerns? I never said they have not been giving us the goods, I just worry about the long term effect of the casual motion control market on the kind of games I like.

You don t need to toot Sony`s horn in front of me like that, I am well aware of what makes Sony great, thanks for trying though.

Edit: Nice edit on the no games coming out (like MS) So you are just a fanboy. And here I though we where about to embark on a mature exchange about the long term effect of casual motion control game on the market as a whole, ei: Nintendo`s 10% og their actual software being quality. I guess it is official, you have zero concerns for Sony, they are all great and move and all their amazing exclusives shows that. You are just as bad as MS fanboy. The is no point in even trying to discuss this with you, you have already made up your mind and that is that.

nycredude4992d ago (Edited 4992d ago )

Montrealien

I know what they mean but I don't understand where the fear is coming from. It is and has been clear from Sony's camp that they have tons of games cooking and will continue to do what they've been doing. Besides this control scheme is being incorporated into many real full core games so I don't see the problem.

MS is a bit more shaky IMO since they haven't shown as much and have way less 1st parties. However I can't believe they are that dumb to drop real games. Then again with all the latest moves they have made either MS are really really dumb or just really really shrewd. I tend to think the latter.

mushroomwig4992d ago

@nycredude

I completely agree with you, if these guys don't like the idea of using motion controls then they can simply ignore them. There is no need to make a comment stating how we should be forgetting motion controls when it's quite clear that there is a lot of interest for it.

mfwahwah4992d ago

The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

Controllers like the ones we use have been in use for over two decades. They aren't going to fizzle out and get neglected overnight. Developers use them just as much as we do. Relax.

WhittO4992d ago (Edited 4992d ago )

I understand that, but until they actually stop delivering and only give us casual junk (I'm only getting Move for all of the good games being converted like Heavy Rain etc) THEN we will have something to complain about.

TBH it is happening with MS and 360 already, just look at the difference in the E3 press conferences. Sony had less than 1/3 dedicated to Move and the rest great games, where as 80% of MS was aimed at the casuals and the lineup next year is looking abysmal.

That to me shows which direction each company is going.

I thought the same when they were focusing on 3D and should focus on other things since barely anyone has a 3D Setup. But now I can see it doesn't effect me because it isn't compromising the games coming out that I want (K3 etc). Until it does, 3D doesn't bother me. Neither should Move.

4992d ago
DaTruth4992d ago

I'll be holding out for a Sorcery bundle myself, or anything as good. None of these games tickle my fancy.

This will be great for my daughter in a year or two, but maybe sooner as she is really advanced and I have been forced to give her a Sixaxis controller already(don't use that buggy crap anyway) and she's only 15 months! She won't stop ejecting my games in the middle of play, sometimes after hours of grinding/farming.

Sevir044992d ago

"...no it won't but there is that fear that Sony will push this so hard that those of us who choose to use the DS3 will have to deal with sub-par gameplay because all of the developers for first party games are forced to think Move first"

First of I dont see how thats possible that they will be forced! in fact I believe the developers are look at whats possible and
consider it, and then if it's possible they work towards it. Sony didn't force sixaxis support at launch they gave developers the kits and they let them have free reign to incorparate what they believe is intuitive!!!

It just puzzles me how the proof is coming from developers on this product being better and that much more precised for what US hardcore gamers want and you skeptics SEE the proof, SEE these same developers who make the Best Games we engoy on a tradition controling
schematic put out quality gaming on a PROVEN OPTION that works with these games and works WELL unlike the others, and you turn your face and pretend to be blind, because you are too Narrow minded to accept an OPTION No one is forcing you to buy into.

It has to Stop. especially if these options work just as well as the traditional or even better. What makes you think these same developers putting out quality experiences with DS3 arent going to put out the same or better with more precision and simpler but more intuitive Motion controlling option?

Its one thing to be a skeptic but its another to see it work and still play dumb. its a blatant choice to be ignorant and to come up with preconcieved negative notions and nothing but your own ignorance and unwillingness to try something new that has been proven to be working, SIGNIFICANTLY better than the other OPTIONs on the market. if the minds at these places places ever thought like you we'd still be stuck gaming on the Atari.

And that goes for all the skeptics who purposely turn a blind eye to innovation and forward thing in todays ever changing and evolving beloved industry of gaming.

danfry4992d ago

Yes I fear for Kinnect, that system is looking well dodgy - the focus on casual gaming is clear, as it is not capable of delivering anything else, unless the 360 controller can be used in tandem with it. The casuals could takeover, or it could just be dead and buried inside a year.

As for Move, there is no need to worry, the tech looks pretty solid and games will be incorporating DS3 and Move, so you will always have the option to use DS3 if you wish (unless of course it is a Move only title), game play will not be compromised due to having two control methods available. Each will be tweaked as necessary.

sikbeta4992d ago

@handheldwars

Why are you complaining about Move and how the f*ck got to do with GT5!?

Gran Turismo 5 = November 2nd -> it can be played with a DS3 and a Wheel

PlayStation Move = in 2 weeks -> its shows that motion controls can be more than crappy mini-games and can have "hardcore" Games

PS3 gamers WIN!

bennyace4992d ago (Edited 4992d ago )

I really don't get why you have so many disagrees when posting your opinions!?!?! TBH I think you're one of the few here that can back your claims and defend your points. But it seems that, in order to get agrees here you have to say Sony does everything right and MS does everything wrong.

I remember when the WIImote was just a gimmick that wouln't last and how "real Gamers" as they call themselves, liked to play games with a standard controller. They didn't want to play games standing up after a day's work or whatever they said. But now, everything's changed. The Move is the sh!t. And Sony has been working on this for the past 10 years! Where were all those claims when the WII was released and consider a gimmick by all the gamers that want a Move so badly today? beats me!

Maybe it's because I've had a WII since launch but I don't feel to excited about the Move. To me it's just "same sh!t, different pile". Ok i'll give you that it's in HD and will have SOME hard core games. But you'll see that the majority of games will be minigames packs. Why? Because the PS3 doesn't have the Move as it's standard controller. And I don't think that developpers will all give the options to use one or the other in their games.

The move will probably be good but not AWESOME good in my opinion.

avengers19784991d ago

@handheldwars using move is an option, if you don't like it then don't get it. I think that there will be enough people interested to make it successful. In the long run you may change your mind as more and more comtent is avalible for the move.

handheldwars4992d ago

Move is awesome and doesn't hamper my dualshock experience one bit! Happy?

P.S. - Nintendo as developers are the masters of motion controls, so no matter how precise "move" is, nothing that Sony's offering will match the quality of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

And they can't win over the casuals with some Wii remote rip-off anyway..

So I'll stick with DualShock.

n4gno4992d ago (Edited 4992d ago )

"Nintendo as developers are the masters of motion controls, so no matter how precise "move" is, nothing that Sony's offering will match the quality of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword"

johnthe5th4991d ago

bjornbear4992d ago

well cant read anything, but its fair

start the party looked like crap

kung fu rider looked hella fun but probably not worth the cost

sports champions is clearly the main game for move atm (since it launches with it)
still, i don't see why these scores matter.

the people who would buy move for these types of games don't follow reviews.

the real reviews will matter for HR: move version, socom 4, KZ3, Res Evil 5 move edition, etc.

the REAL games.

AllroundGamer4992d ago (Edited 4992d ago )

you know the Kinect games will probably have better scores, cause MS will start sending their special envelopes... they have the money for it, collected from overpriced accessories and the extra 10$ they get from every loyal sheeplike XBL Gold user :)

Kran4992d ago

@N4PS3Fanboys

Did you forget to add the slim bundle with Kinect/ Adventures too?

DaTruth4992d ago (Edited 4992d ago )

Of course Kinect games will get good scores with their billion dollar ad campaigns in every gaming magazine while we see Sony taking the higher road with half their ads in magazines not related to gaming and movie trailers.

I'm staring at a Move bundle ad now in Famous magazine and there are no 360 ads, because they don't rate videogames or have any videogame articles!

You mean that game that's been done on the Wii years ago?

Montrealien4992d ago

that line up is not my cup of tea, however I respect people that dig those kinds of games. I will try a few of them, no killer app there imho though. I am a little hopeful for games like Soccom and killzone using move.

dead_eye4992d ago

what is your cup of tea Montrealien

Scotland-The-Brave4992d ago

Whats your cup of tea with kinect then?

Montrealien4992d ago (Edited 4992d ago )

Probably the dance studio, I am interested in that, I know my wife and my sister in law really dug it when I showed em what it was, that and yoostar 2, which I will probably get on kinect, but it will work fine on both. This obviously is referring to the kinect/move titles, I am a huge RTS, MMO and racing fan, and enjoy many other kinds of games. I have been playing Rise of Legends the last few days, got it at a bargain bin this weekend and forgot how epic that game was, to bad it got overlooked. However to be more specific, I am en Earl Gray guy.

I will be getting both to be honest. But many of the titles listed by Dragun619 and many other ones coming out on the kinect are games that will be cool at the beginning, however will end up just gathering dust, like many of my cool at first Wii games. Games like Dance Studio, and the multi platform yoostar will be this years big casual/party hits though, imho.

http://www.yoostar2.com/#/h...

if you guys have no seen yoostar2 yet, check it out.

cb4g4992d ago

Montrealien4991d ago (Edited 4991d ago )

Why is me being a fan of games like Homworld, Warcraft, Starcraft, C&C, Rise of Nations/Legends and so many other amazing PC mouse and keyboard RTS games make it Ironic that I down play what I consider a slightly better version of Wii main mechanic? That makes no sense.

I have zero interest in playing an RTS on a console when I got a very good PC gaming rig that will give me hot-keys, mod support, and easy access to community features, and, lets face it, a much better resolution.

And your Ruse link is a joke. French guy says playing Ruse from couch is more comfortable, but it comes out as better because he is bad in English. Ruse on Move as been compared to playing SC2 with only the mouse, come on, that is not an option in my books, and should not be to anyone who takes RTS gaming seriously.

sorry, but no thanks. And trust me, I have tried to enjoy console RTS in the past, from Warcraft 2, to Starcraft 64, to Commande and conquer, and even with supcom 2, and sorry, no motion control pointer can make these games better on console.

BrianG4992d ago

Lol, im sorry the the Dance Central AAA thing was a bit funny. Not saying its not a good looking game, but its not the best Kinect should be able to offer, gesture tracking, its gotta do better than that.

But The Fight does look bad to, also gesture tracking, but EyePet is cool, its basically Kinectimals, with some augmented reality thrown in there, which is neat.

Air Conflicts: Secret Wars - PlayStation Move's Best Kept Secret

Air Conflicts: Secret Wars debuted in 2011, and later updated for modern consoles. However, it's the PlayStation 3 edition that stands out.

350°

Why the PlayStation Move Failed

Sony's PlayStation Move may not have been able to contend with Nintendo's Wii, but it paved the way for PlayStation VR's success story.

SullysCigar962d ago

I use them most days and have for years 🤷🏻‍♂️

They're definitely way past a needed update, but I've got a tonne of fun out of them, so they haven't failed me.

bouzebbal962d ago

The best motion control platform it's so intuitive.. Died due to lack of support from Sony.. It had some amazing games

thorstein962d ago

They are used constantly for PSVR games. So, no they haven't failed. Neither has PSVR (or VR in general.)

Bigman4k962d ago (Edited 962d ago )

The article was talking about why it ps move failed before psvr came along

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH963d ago

It failed because it sucked plain and simple.

LOGICWINS962d ago

I feel that's a bit harsh. To this day, playing Killzone 3's campaign with PS Move/Sharpshooter gun combo is the most fun/immersive experience I've ever had with an FPS.

I think Move was simply not as profitable as Sony wanted it to be, but it didn't "suck".

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH962d ago

It most definitely sucked. You people can act like it was something special all you want but it was horrible. The entire motion control fad was a waste of resources and time. Ever single motion controller besides the Wii failed and is no longer being used today in gaming. It's ok to admit it...

Minute Man 721962d ago

@SPEAK

The Move was better that the Wii mote. If the Wii was anywhere accurate as the Move was you could say the Wii was better. Sure it sold boatloads but was it really played consistently??

yeahokwhatever962d ago

I played it in 3D with the move gun on a 100 inch projector and it BLEW MY MIND. I was exhausted, but i finished the campaign standing there.

SullysCigar962d ago

"Ever single motion controller besides the Wii failed and is no longer being used today in gaming"

Just no. Games release most weeks (for years now) that support Move controllers. Some ONLY use Move controllers.

Look, I get you're not a fan, but if you're going to rant, at least inform yourself in advance.

I would say both Move and Kinect weren't supported properly.

Sony and MS abandoned what could have been amazing.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH962d ago

Kinect sucked too. I would say Kinect may have been cool had it worked as intended but it was ahead of it's time. Both Kinect and Move are gimmicks nothing more. I honestly don't see why Sony still implements "motion controls" recent controllers. Who really uses that crap? And to play what?

Profchaos962d ago

I so t think Sony abandoned the move it's technically repurposed and still supported on the ps5 just for VR

RedDevils962d ago

Kinect should be kept as media interactive features.

LordoftheCritics962d ago (Edited 962d ago )

@SPEAKxTHExTRUTH
Again if it was supported right.

Where even a fast click of my fingers could get an immediate in game response.

It feels trash because we have been shown or lived with bad versions of gesture based tech. Think Minority Report fast. That could be something.

''You people can act like it was something special all you want but it was horrible.''

No one is acting like it was special, I said it could be amazing.

''I think Move was simply not as profitable as Sony wanted it to be''

Like I said, it wasnt supported. Give us a AAA game with precision gestures well implemented into the game and then we can discuss profits.

962d ago
SPEAKxTHExTRUTH962d ago

I don't deal in "what if". It wasn't supported right and even if it was it was still a gimmick.

thorstein962d ago

"Like I said, it wasnt supported. Give us a AAA game with precision gestures well implemented into the game"

You just described every AAA PSVR game. And even the indies have incredible integration. No Man's Sky VR is insanely good.

Silly gameAr962d ago

And, you can act like it was horrible, but I had a blast with my Move. I had the whole collection of House of the Dead, Dead Space Extraction, and RE Darkside Cronicles, The Fight, and Socom 4, and I would play the hell out of those games I even beat a playthrough of the Resistance 3 campaign with the Move. Getting drunk and playing with friends was a freaking blast.

You can pretend that you had a move and played it all you want SPeak the Truth, but it was accurate, and usually on point. I hate when people act like they've played something just to trash it, when they really just have a vendetta, and think the Move is easy prey for your hate.

Minute Man 721962d ago

Wait you can play Dead Space with the Move?? I need it

Orchard962d ago

“You can pretend that you had a move”

I love this crazy idea that if someone has something bad to say about hardware/software - they must be lying about owning it and clearly do not own it!

Because all hardware and software has a 100% approval rating from all purchasers…

P_Bomb962d ago (Edited 962d ago )

Shoot I forgot about Dead Space Extraction and Umbrella Chronicles. Had those too. Still do (digital).

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH962d ago

I have a vendetta against Move? Lmao that's the most ridiculous comment I've read today. I didn't buy it because like I said motion controls are gimmicks. I had a Wii and it was decent enough but a gimmick although successful. I had a Kinect and it too was trash. Don't act as if you know what I have and haven't owned. Move was nothing more than a Wiimote ripoff

yeahokwhatever962d ago

SO MANY really great experiences for the Move. The Fight was excellent!

Silly gameAr962d ago (Edited 962d ago )

@Minute Man

There was a game called Dead Space Extraction that you could play the Move with.

@Orchard. Please don't reply to me, because every time I say something to you, I magically end up restricted. So, just ignore me like I ignore you, so there will be no hurt feelings, please.

"Ever single motion controller besides the Wii failed and is no longer being used today in gaming. It's ok to admit it..."

That is demostrably false.... Most VR games have motion controls and the PSVR uses the Move controllers.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH962d ago (Edited 962d ago )

VR games have a controller most of the time not some magic wand. And VR is not the same as PS move or Kinect. I'm not a fan of VR either. A controller and a couch is all I need for my gaming needs.

Vanfernal962d ago

@SPEAKxTHExTRUTH

"And VR is not the same as PS move or Kinect."

PSVR LITERALLY uses the Move controllers. Now it's just obvious you have no idea what you're talking about. You're saying Move failed and nobody uses it anymore when it's an integral part of PSVR and is still being used in 2021.

ScootaKuH962d ago

It didn't suck. It worked but the games just weren't there, that's why it failed.

Father__Merrin962d ago

The move was excellent it was 1 to 1 precise time crisis was a joy to play aswell as sports champions it didn't hit mainstream as it was an addon unlike Nintendo wiimote

Lack of games that proved the concept that 3rd parties could then copy en masse?

Silly Mammo962d ago

I wish that someone would have made a proper boxing game. I still have a blast with the Sports Champions boxing, but to have a boxing game that was more in-depth would have been awesome.

Dario_DC962d ago

Try Creed for PSVR, it's brilliant

OMGitzThatGuy963d ago

Because it was a uninspired ripoff of the Wii controller without the Nintendo library to back it and didn't try to put any real effort into development such as getting their top developers to make games for it and instead gave tech demos disguised as games to their least talented developers so the best can focus on single player only games.

Ryushaa963d ago

Except the Move was an idea roughly implemented in the PS2. Yes, I'm serious.
Just search on youtube: PlayStation 2 - Motion Controller (2004)

Nonetheless, just like the whole Wii, it was more of a gimmick than a proper input evolution in games.

jukins963d ago

Exactly. Its funny time and time again sony is the first innovate. Often at its own peril. Like your example the move started on ps2 taken advantage of by nintendo. Sony buys gakai for game streaming only for other companies to overtake them.

Profchaos962d ago

Are you talking about the gametrak on os2 which used strings to track your hand position I used to have this and a gold game it was awesome but the game itself sucked if it had integration with tiger woods or something it would be way better the tracking was excellent even back then as it wasn't using guesswork.
However the game was very forgiving and no way to turn it harder and no licensed players or courses hurt it.

99% of the Wii's games were "shovelware", in fact, I think thats what started that phrase..

EvertonFC963d ago

Socom, killzone, resistance and tiger wood 14 were great with the move but agree lacked more games.

yeahokwhatever962d ago

There were plenty of games and I'm glad that not every game became a Move game.

These PS3 Games are Going to get Really Expensive

Could you get rich by investing in PS3 games? Almost definitely not. Can you make a few bucks by flipping PS3 games over the years? Yeah, sure! It wouldn’t even be that difficult. But let’s face it: Once these games are in your collection, you’re probably keeping them forever.

There's a reason I didn't buy most of these when they came out.

MadLad965d ago

After a game's multiple generations old, and can't be had new at a reasonable price, that's when I see nothing wrong with emulation.

What's the point of paying someone scalper prices when the dev/publisher isn't even benefiting from it?

mkis007965d ago

Emulation doesn't stop a games physical box from becoming collectible.

Knightofelemia965d ago

I paid $30 for SH Downpour on PS3 now it's around $70-$85 Canadian Lolipop Chainsaw I paid $15 and it has really gone up in price. I wonder if Transformers War and Fall of Cybertron will go up in price two of the best Transformers games every made.

neutralgamer1992965d ago

In 5 years time all those games will be worth at least $150 to $200 that you listed

neutralgamer1992965d ago

Ever since Sony announced that they would shut down PS3 store these prices have skyrocketed and even though Sony backtracked now most gamers realize that it's a matter of time before the PlayStation 3 store is shut down. If you want these games get them while you can even if digital because once that story shut down the physical prices will just go crazy high we saw that already

And many of these games did not sell like crazy amounts so they are limited number of copies available for sale at any given time

MadLad965d ago

Folklore is a game I've always really wanted to play, but I got a PS3 late in the generation, and it was already really expensive to find, being it didn't exactly sell well, therefore was already kind of a collector's item.

Kept hoping I'd find a cheap copy randomly at stores and flea markets, but never happened.

franwex965d ago

I got mine for $5 at Walmart like 10 years ago. I have yet to play it.

neutralgamer1992965d ago

It was available at GameStop for a while for under $20. Don't know har happened but GameStop started to sell their used games based on ebay prices it seems

You can still find it for around $60-70 and which in my opinion is a good price for a game that will be worth double if not triple that in next 5 years

Mr Logic965d ago

Have you considered modding your PS3? Neither Sony or the dev would be getting money from that Folklore purchase. Kind of a victimless crime at that point.

MadLad965d ago (Edited 965d ago )

@neutral

Honestly, I just want to actually give the experience a try. I'm not someone who would buy it at a premium just to potentially rip someone off down the road.
I mean, there are collectors out there and if paying a couple hundred dollars is worth it to them then more power to them, but I'm not one to be on either end of that exchange.

I know it's taboo, but I might dig in and see the state of PS3 emulation on PC. I have a good PC, so it might be able to power through the often times poor performance, being PS3 is known to be hard to emulate.

I've never emulated anything past the PS2/Dreamcast but, as I said in my first post, I don't see anything wrong with emulation if the game you want to play can only be had used, with no money going to the creators.
