Halo Reach versus Call of Duty Black Ops: HD Screen shot comparison

GB writes: "We are just a few weeks away from the launch of Microsoft’s biggest game of the year: Halo Reach. Reach, set shortly before the events of Halo: Combat Evolved, will be releasing this September, and with just a month between us and its release, our impatience grows. The next game in the revered Call of Duty series, Black Ops, is being developed by Treyarch, the creators of Call of Duty 3 and Call of Duty: World at War. Though their experiences with the franchise have been nothing out of the ordinary, they seem adamant to deliver perfectly this time around."

Both of them aren't pushing any graphical boundaries so I really don't see the point.

gameseveryday5006d ago

I guess you need to check some screens of Black Ops first.

Kamikaze1355006d ago

And what exactly is Black Ops doing that Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, and Crysis haven't done yet?

PhantomT14125006d ago

60FPS AND pretty good graphics?
None of the three deliver both.

Bhai5006d ago

Black ops is pretty good graphically and a multiplatform title... though being an exclusive, Reach should be ashamed of itself visually. Though none of 'em doing anything really BIG physics like as U2, KZ2 or Crysis have brought to the table, and KZ3 with that ocean is gonna be a benchmark in itself:

Part of what makes Reach impressive is the scope. 30+ AIs and vehicles on-screen at once, plus wide-open environments with long draw distances, plus split-screen.

I haven't seen any other game with Reach's visual fidelity pull all that off.

Halo doesn't do BIG physics?

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Show me something like that in KZ2 or U2 (not including Crysis because I never played it). Halo 3's physics engine doesn't get nearly enough credit.

Another example of the physics in Halo 3...

and another...

and one more for good measure...

I would like to see videos from other games pushing physics like Halo 3 does.

PhantomT14125006d ago (Edited 5006d ago )

Why disagree? This is a fact:
Call of Duty runs at 60 FPS while Killzone, Crysis (on console) or Uncharted don't.

Now I don't say this makes it better, but if Call of Duty is not as graphically stunning as those 3, it has THIS advantage (and it still looks pretty enough).

Snipers (optional) have to keep there hands steady or the sixaxis will recognize the motion.

STICKzophrenic5006d ago

I would say that's more controls based than physics.

It's definitely an awesome feature in KZ2. I loved the couple times I was able to snipe during the campaign.

Bhai5006d ago

when your 'next-gen' game looks ike 'past-gen / xbox1' games, that should be the least amount of physics be there. No big deal, plain old blast-physics, thats all, I mean where else the 360 resources were being used in this game. And btw, Resistance 2 had 60 AI at obnce on screen in multiplayer ;)

TheIneffableBob5006d ago

How are those Halo 3 physics examples supposed to be impressive? It's all small scale stuff--flying cones and ballistics modeling on a couple weapons which is nothing new.

badz1495006d ago

a rocket deflected by a grenade and move the way it did in the 1st video, that's not physic, that's cartoonish! death by a cone is not physic, but it's funny though! but how in the world would anybody dies by a cone when they have an armor THAT thick? physic? I don't think so. don't mess up fantasy with science dude

evrfighter5006d ago (Edited 5006d ago )

blackops is running AA which means that we are looking at pc vs. 360 screenshots

I don't like Halo, only played an hour of the first one. A lot of you know me as a pc fanboy. But Reach is being setup for failure here.

BTW if you've ever ran cod4 maxed out. there's no difference between them.

heroprotagonist5006d ago

Two things...

First, if you think Halo 3 looks like an Xbox 1 game you need to get your eyes checked because they obviously don't work.

Second, Resistance 2 does not have impressive graphics (although still a lot better than last gen games). Halo Reach looks far, far better. Even Halo 3 looks better. The textures and lighting are better.

Halo Reach is easily one of the best looking shooters on consoles. Halo Reach and Killzone 3 both have their own very distinct look, but they both look amazing in their own way.

STICKzophrenic5006d ago

Halo 3 doesn't look last-gen at all. Even if it did, Resistance 2 isn't a game with which to compare it because Resistance 2 isn't that impressive.

Since it's plain old blast physics, show me another game where a grenade can stick to another grenade and be thrown back? Show me someone sniping a rocket out of mid-air.

@TheIneffableBob

"How are those Halo 3 physics examples supposed to be impressive? It's all small scale stuff--flying cones and ballistics modeling on a couple weapons which is nothing new."

If it isn't impressive, show me another game doing such things.

It's the game's physics. I never said they were realistic, but they're consistent within the game. You know how each game its own art style? Halo has it's own physics style. Also, that cone was moving pretty fast. Besides, it's a video game.

NoPoint5006d ago

Gamingbolt doesn't know how to make screen comparisons!

TheIneffableBob5006d ago (Edited 5006d ago )

Flying cones and ballistics modeling? Half-Life 2.
(Most of HL2's weapons are hit scan, but so are Halo 3's)

"Since it's plain old blast physics, show me another game where a grenade can stick to another grenade and be thrown back? Show me someone sniping a rocket out of mid-air."

That's not impressive physics, that's called attention to detail.

he speaks the truth. i see nothing mindboggling about halo or black op's graphics. they both look like awesome games however and i'm actually inclined to believe that treyarch will do a hell of a better job than infinity ward did with mw2. i heavily look forward to both games. different art directions, different gameplay styles, different stories, etc etc.

my most anticipated fps to look forward to are as follow:

1) killzone 3
2) halo reach
3) crysis 2
4) call of duty: black ops
5) medal of honour (although i'm still iffy about the whole taliban issue)

knowledge4lfe5005d ago

im not putting you down or anything, but who gives a shyt if you can play the taliban? its a fuching VIDEOGAME. the same shyt with the russian part in mw2. who cares. it just truly blows my mind how sensitive and pathetic people are. i gotta be one of the most racist people in the world. but i could give 2 shyts if i play the taliban in a videogame. its showing you a different perspective. man. its like , OMG, GTA4 made some kid kill a cop. grow up seriously. i know my rant isnt to grown up, but its getting old.
but to each his own and i respect your opinion , but man just really think about it one day.

mrcash5006d ago

heavy rain didn't look very impressive I'm sorry... I love the game but was disappointed by the visuals. Killzone2 to this day is still the best looking game on ps3 sorry uncharted but reach is even bigger than killzone 2 all the weapons spit out some great lighting the explosions are great there is so much detail in this game reach can hold its own against any ps3 exclusive, btw I think killzone 3 is going to kill visually more than reach cant waith for it.

knowledge4lfe5005d ago

yeaaa ummm , i know i hate microsoft , and they need something other then halo, but reach does not look that amazing. it looks extremely good, but nowhere near gow3, kz2, uncharted 1/2. but hey i guess when all the media likes to suck bungies d*ck you gotta go along with it right?

muDD5006d ago

compare campaign screens to multiplayer... that author is a complete idiot... both will look nice!

Dance5006d ago (Edited 5006d ago )

large number of friendly and enemy AI with 20 vehicles or plus on-screen at once, plus wide-open environments with long draw distances just shows halo reach is doing a hell of lot more than most games are doing on the market right now

heroprotagonist5006d ago

I don't know why some people try to act like Halo Reach doesn't have good graphics. It looks outstanding and is definitely among the best looking shooters on consoles.

jeseth5006d ago

Multiplayer or no multiplayer shots. If that is really what Reach is looking like than Bungie has issues. They should be able to have a really excellent looking game by now while incorporating all the great gameplay that makes Halo so great.

Those graphics are kind of sad actually.

Several MULTIplat games have better graphics than what we are seeing here. Not even several ... MANY multiplats that are over a year old have better graphics than this.

P.S. Call of Duty hasn't gained a whole lot graphically since MW either.

vhero5006d ago (Edited 5006d ago )

Comparing black ops which is gonna be at least 720p native with a sub par Halo Reach isn't a fair comparison.
Looking at the pics though Modern Warfare 2 blows Black Ops out the water..

Marquis_de_Sade5005d ago

Reach runs at 1152 x 720 and is upscaled to 1280 x 720p, similar to how GT5 is upscaled from 1280 x 1080 to 1920 x 1080, doesn't stop you and your fellow cronies from haling GT5 as true 1080p.

knowledge4lfe5005d ago

can you please post a link saying GT5 isnt 1080p. im not saying it isnt. i just would like a link.

Christopher5005d ago

There has got to be some better shots to use as comparison for Halo: Reach. Isn't there a section of the game where you're battling swarms of encroaching enemies or something similar?

gunnerforlife5005d ago

im sorry but none of them to compare to killzones online! especially halo! it looks like age of empires with its miniture action figure :/
compare that to killzone2 and it comes out all the way at the bottom.
you can think of this as trolling but thats the reason i dont like halos online.

InFAMOUS15005d ago

2 very different games. While Reach looks more 'dated' it has greater draw, bigger environments, more AI etc. Where BO has smaller environments, less AI thus allowing for a greater image. Also someone said 'reach being an exclusive should be better' I totally agree. Every PS3 exclusive in the past 3 years has done nothing but push the envelope in the developmental stage, and MS has not shown anything like the such. Reach is going to sell 99999 billion copies because its fun to play for some.. For me, I prefer real guns to lasers and people jumping 2 feet instead of 20... That's just me though.

Reach is gonna be way better

knowledge4lfe5005d ago

thats what we call an OPINION. now if you wanna comment on the actual graphics, go right ahead please. i think the original doom is way better then reach. see what i did there?

dosgrtr5006d ago (Edited 5006d ago )

hd screen shot comparison of games which aren't hd themselves ,just saying or is this the pc version of black ops?

Christopher5005d ago

Halo: Reach has a native resolution of 1152x720.

CoD: Black Ops has a native resolution of 1280x720.

Both are vast improvements over their former games. Halo: Reach isn't full HD in height, but uses overlaying methods of 1152x720 images to create a 1280x720 result. Similar concept used in Alan Wake, just used much better in Halo: Reach.

How'd fallout not make the list. Atleast over cyberpunk, tales , and halo. Fallout been around since what 96 98 and has 5 6 games into it. It's full of lore when you play it. I'd even add star ocean to a point.

robtion499d ago

Agree Fallout should be on there.

MadLad499d ago

And somehow Planescape Torment doesn't even make the list.

Crows90499d ago

Hollow knight surpasses these.

shinoff2183499d ago

In lore? I must be missing something

Crows90499d ago (Edited 499d ago )

Yes in lore. Easily missed... absolutely. Never played a game that had me loving the world and lore behind it as much as that one. Most of course wouldn't be able to experience it since it is a more difficult game.

DarXyde499d ago

I can't speak for all titles on this list, but by the time you get to Dark Souls III, the lore is a bloody tapestry of intricacy

Crows90498d ago

Played them all. Im not saying the games on the list dont have good lore...I just think hollow knight had more lore that is hidden but present and more easily explored and accessed. The souls games have tremendous lore but theyre mostly hidden and stay that way unless you look for it and research it. The lore is not very accessible.

DarXyde498d ago

Crows90,

I think that's a somewhat fair assessment. For me, the Souls games are less upfront about the lore, but it does invite your fascination through NPCs, items, locations, bosses, etc. There's this kind of natural progression where the picture becomes just clear enough by doing the essential tasks, but it really makes you want to explore every inch of the world.

TheColbertinator499d ago

Suikoden and Legend of Heroes also have massive lore setups.

agent13499d ago

narration is more important than lore i'd rather watch the story and characters in a more cinematic way instead of searching for notes and stuff that's why i love sony exclusive games like uncharted and gow and hate from software games

shinoff2183498d ago

The article was top ten lore in video games. I think they did a bad job picking games out. I know what you mean though. I just like a variety of games and genres.
