A Konversation With Mortal Kombat's Ed Boon - GameInformer

GameInformer: "Ed Boon has been a part of Mortal Kombat since the series began. He programmed the first game, back when a team of four could realistically tackle such a project. As creative director for NetherRealm, Boon is charged with overseeing the latest installment in the series, which is simply titled Mortal Kombat.

We sat down with Boon at last week's Gamescom, and talked about his pinball past, the evolution of the series, and how the Internet marked the beginning of the end of gaming secrets."

is so awesome, MK is awesome :D

TrevorPhillips5013d ago

Since MK9 is a reboot of MK1, 2 and 3 I know noob saibot will be in it because Noob is a hidden character in MK2.

and yes Ed Boon is Awesome :D

iamgoatman5013d ago (Edited 5013d ago )

I used to like playing as noob saibot in UMK3, just because he was so overpowered, you could kick the cheap AI's ass with ease.

@Skizelli

I was playing an emulated version for the Genesis which has Noob and Rain as playable characters, so I guess it was the Wavenet version. Wasn't that the one with net play?

Skizelli5013d ago

@Agent-X: More like a reboot of MK1-UMK3. Boon says there will be roughly 26 characters. If you do the math, there are exactly 26 characters between MK1-UMK3, not including Goro, Kintaro, Chameleon, Khameleon, Motaro & Shao Kahn.

@Jimmy Riddle: Unless you were lucky enough to play the Wavenet version of UMK3 around Chicago, you probably mean MK Trilogy.

TrevorPhillips5013d ago (Edited 5013d ago )

MK9 is a reboot of MK1 2 and UMK 3 didn't you watch any of the interviews bro.

There is a likely chance Noob Saibot will make an appearance.

Like Boon said "Any character you have loved from the previous MK games such as MK1 2 and 3 will most likely make an appearance in MK9."

iamgoatman5013d ago

Actually, just reading up now and both the SNES and Genesis versions of UMK3 had Noob and Rain as playable characters, so that's probably the version I've been playing.

Skizelli5013d ago (Edited 5013d ago )

@Jimmy Riddle: UMK3 for SNES/Genesis completely slipped my mind. I apologize. Every time I think of Rain and Noob in the 2D games, I think of MKT, as it had the complete versions of them, while SNES and Genesis did not. To answer your question, Wavenet was a modified version of the MK3/UMK3 arcade games that allowed it to be played over a network connection. It had a limited release. It also had some gameplay tweaks, like a limit on Kung Lao's spin (no more infinite combo). Noob Saibot was playable via an input code, like that for human Smoke (done by holding B+HP+HK+BL+RN after selecting robot Smoke and before the match started).

@Agent-X: Yeah bud, but you said "Since MK9 is a reboot of MK1, 2 and 3". The new screen shots revealed two stages from UMK3, and after doing the math, it would seem logical that the 26 would include characters from UMK3 as well. I can almost guarantee you that Noob will be playable.

My favorite is always going to be Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. I know some people didn't like the addition of the run button. But, man that game is burned into my memory from childhood, lol.

Relientk77193d ago

That's the one I played the most as a kid. Fun times gaming on my Sega Genesis, the memories

Terry_B192d ago

Deception, MK2, MK9, MKX ..rest.

Kakashi Hatake192d ago

MK2 will always be the best in the series. Been playing a lot of MK1 lately though. Definitely enjoying it more than any other NRS era MK game.

Tankbusta40192d ago

1 and 2 were cultural phenomenon's.

specialguest192d ago

I will always have a special place in my memory for MK 1 and 2. You had to be there during that era at the arcades. Martial arts tournament fighting movies were still popular, and MK 1 was exciting. Real life motion captured characters done well (unlike Pit Fighter). A cast of characters we all liked like Bruce Lee(Lui Kang), Van Damme(Johnny Cage), the Lightning god(Raiden) from Big Trouble in Little China, and Ninjas, gotta have Ninjas. Goro was menacing as hell. The MK arcade had some of the best speakers similar to Killer Instinct as you could hear the loud crisp and bassy sound that was distinctly different than other arcades. MK 2 improved greatly on the controls and fighting mechanics
