Mass Effect 2 – PS3 owners should be excited

PS3 Attitude - Gamescom 2010 had many highlights but possibly the most exciting announcement was that Mass Effect 2 will be making its way to the PlayStation 3 in January 2011. BioWare’s crowning achievement has been wowing PC and Xbox 360 gamers for the past year and it’s now our turn to travel the galaxy in this awesome space-travelling RPG. Here’s a quick round-up of what we’ve been missing out on.

Buying PS3 exclusives I want first and during the summer drought next year ME2 can be gotten for $40 or less so more bang for my buck and win win win.

However, once the game comes out, if it doesn't have enough bonus content for me or the quality hasn't been improved on then I'll just rent it on gamefly, have fun and then move on to other multiplats I need to enjoy before the fall comes and PS3 exclusives kill my wallet all over again.

@Lowcarb-"no excuses" if it doesn't sell well? Apart from the fact 90% of people who will have wanted to play the series already will have done by now, let alone by release on PS3. Almost every late arrival fails in sales terms(look at Bioshock for a quality game failing at the till because it was so late coming)on the PS3 and with a big catalogue of games arriving on time it's hard for a game that's also available on PC/360 to eep high sales and well you know it-a better judge would be how ME3 sells on the console.

It's also an erroneous belief that multiplats all sell poorly on the PS3 by comparison to the 360. RE5, SF4, Fifa, PES and TR:U all sold better on the PS3 than on 360 and the likes of GTA4 and DMC4 sold to a, then, higher percentage of console owners with a PS3 even if the total number was higher on the 360 (because of the then smaller user base as a percentage those games sold better on the PS3). So, this whole sales argument used to bash(IDK) the PS3 or it's users is a skewed argument at the very best and hokum at worst.

Personally, I played the first game on both 360 and PC and the second on 360 as I still had my saves but playing through again with not using them made little difference to how it played out anyway and I'm guessing that Bio will allow interactive cutties s PS3 only gamers can make the big decisions from ME1 without being able to play the full game. If there's exclusive and new content for the PS3 game I might actually buy it again but for any PS3 only gamer who never managed to borrow a 360/PC to play the games I'd advise excitement but don't imagine stelar sales for a game most will have fund a way to play by the time it arrrives.

Mass Effect 2 is an amazing game. I bought it at launch for the PC. My mind was blown away. Now thats its coming out for the ps3, my mind will be blown away playing it on the ps3 but in a lesser extent since I have already played the game to death LOL

Its Game of the Year material, and ps3 owners getting all the DLC on the blu-ray just makes it Game of the Generation award.

I own both PS3 and 360, and I can tell you that this game deserves every bit of credit that it is receiving. It's one of the few games that I've played through more than once, and it is by no means a short game. Mass Effect 2 was one of the games that I was jealous as a PS3 owner, so I went ahead and bought a used 360 for it. Second best money I ever spent (my PS3 will always be #1).

We should all be thankful to Sony and Bioware for working hard at making sure Mass Effect is experienced by all gamers.

it might be dirt cheap on pc, but a lot of people(including myself) either don't like gaming on their pc's or don't have the specs for it. i'd also rather play on my 42" tv over my 19" monitor.

don't forget trophies :) got it for PC and will get it for PS3 when the price drops, but many persons do not or cannot play games on their PC so the full price is not a problem as it will be like a new game.

PS3 only users should be very excited. This game is something to own right away. It will take up so much of your time and draws you in. You'll replay it as a new character and juggle between Paragon(Good) or Renegade(Bad). The acting is good and side missions keep you occupied forever. PLEASE BUY THIS GAME. The better it does, the more EA will throw at Bioware for more titles like this. Exclusives should be kept to in-house developing ONLY

It has already been confirmed that all of the dlc that has been released will be included in the disc for the ps3 version similar to how fallout 3 game of the year edition was for the ps3.. Btw there are alot of people that only own ps3's and this is a great opportunity to play the best game the 360 has to offer.. I've played a good hour of the ME2 on a friends 360 and I am soo exctied at the chance to play and finish this game on my ps3.. A question, I played the original Mass Effect but I never liked the game. How different is the ME2 compared to the first one?

Depends what you didn't like about it. If you played the first on 360 and you didn't like the controls, combat or how poorly it ran or the inventory management then all of that stuff is much improved. If you played the first on PC it was SO much better than the 360 version it was stupid, so if you didn't like that version because of the story or characters or conversation system or something then that stuff wont change.

There are certain aspects of the first Mass Effect (on PC anyway) that I consider better, like some story aspects and the overall tone of the game. Mass Effect 2 is more shooter and less RPG but still has the deep conversation system and a good amount of character customization. All loot and guns are "preset" in the game, meaning you find them all during the story missions, it's not random loot dropped by every enemy, and all the armor is purchased from stores in various cities. Makes the inventory a lot easier but it takes away from some of the RPG stuff.

Thnx for the quick reply, I played the 1st on the 360. The overall setting didn't appeal too me, the conversations felt weird and awkward, the stood there like zombies and my fellow AI was sometimes OK but most of the time just retarded. I played the game till the beach part then I just lost interest. The story felt like a drag and that pissed me off because the game started out very good ( story wise ). I played the demo of ME2 the story and setting felt the same, but the charge attack of the Vanguard class is just effin awesome! Is it worth to get ME2 just for the combat?

The gun battles are very good now. The wall cover and duck/shoot is are 10x better. The trageting works great and the replay factor is up there. Now you can interupt a Q&A session to get aggressive or to use logic into getting information. The side missions and planet hopping is nothing like the last. They are actual worlds and not that moon rover crap like before where you analyzed artifacts and fought the same creatures over and over.

Mass effect 1 did a poor job of engaging the player.. For me anyways it was very difficult to become engrossed in the story so I stopped playing after 30 minutes and I havent touched it since. Mass effect 2 on the other hand was amazing, from the very begining of the game I was hookd and engaged.. I cant wait to sink my teeth into the ps3 version...

Both games are great but I think a middle way would be even better-keeping some of the combat improvements but bringing back some of the RPG depth of the first would be my pick. ME2 is fantastic but can seem like a shooter with added conversations rather than a proper WRPG for some people even if I wouldn't go that far I know a few people who felt it went too close to just being a TPS with some choices.

The thing they have NEVER got anything like right is the effing mining/cracking! Playing through a second time I avoided doing as much of that boredom guaranteeing BS as I could. Did no one else find it frustrating as all hell when it should have been made a lot more entertaining? This all said both games are cool, the series has no peers and if you own a PS3 and never played either ME2 with it's extras will be a fine, fine purchase and one you should be making if you have any pretensions towards being a true gamer. It's one of the best two r three new IPs this generation , imho, alonsdside the Gears, Uncharteds,inFAMOUSes and LBPs of this world.

This is a game that should be played and the more people who have access to it the better. It's too bad Playstation 3 owners won't be able to play it from the beginning but i imagine Bioware will offer a prelude that wasn't on the original versions. Plus it will no doubt get exclusive content or at the very least the DLC that is already available. Which is only fair since the game will no doubt be $60 when it comes out.

Plus it will be nice to have it all on one disc. Sure that may be offset with a mandatory install but it's still a better way to only having to deal with one disc.

Only if they offer something like the PC version as the mod free, lower quality than expected and ill supported 360 versions of the L4D game are nothing to crave-not at full retail price anyway. However, if they allow mods and brush up the quality all round it might be a good call but, as of now, I'm still to play a decent Valve port on any console and their attitude has to change towards consoles in general before I'll think PS3 owners are getting anything great from Valve as so far I've found their console games just far too far behind their PC versions to be bothered with and rate buying L4D 360 for £40 as the worst I've been ripped off this generation. Without mods it's just so quick to pall into samey dullness as mods keep the fun going on for a lot longer and paying less than half for it off Steam might have helped too!

Don't get me wrong:Valve are my favourite PC dev by some distance but TOB on 360 only got away with it's own major issues because EA managed to mess the PS3 version up so massively. I just think they got away with a lot this generation without putting anywhere near the same effort into their console ports as their PC work.

I've played every major title on the 360 despite not owning a 360.. I am very open to good games but I refuse to buy hardware from a company like microsoft.. Console preferences aside, mass effect 2 is one of the best games available on both platforms and I am very excited to be able to play it on my ps3 as are a great deal of other ps3 owners.. I dont know if you are just upset that the ps3 is getting the very best reason to own a 360 or if you are just completely biased towards the ps3 but this is great news for the industry as a whole.. It is a good thing for Sony. They have great first party games and have almost every third party franchise that the 360 has and it puts them in a good position. In my opinion Mass Effect was one of the few franchises on the 360 that I was bumed not to have. However I won't be buying it day one but will get it eventually. As for the people going on about sales, UC2 sold at least 4 million copies which adds up to 240 million dollars which I believe is a profit compared to their budget. People have the delusion that if a game doesn't sell 10 milkion the first week that automatically means it's a faliure or a bad game. MW2 sold a billion worth of games worldwide but was the most half @$$ed attempt at a game I have ever seen. What is the point of selling a lot if they give you crap in return?

I have to say that ME2 is probably my GoTY choice at the moment. I'm glad to see it on PS3 now because more people can experience it. I've beaten it a few times and finished all the DLC so I rpboably wouldn't buy it again but it is definitely worth playing if you haven't and you own only a PS3.
